Is it pressure?

    The last 2 postseasons...
We sweep the Cubs in round 1, nobody expected them to win the series. We lose to the Phills because we were supposed to win since we so easily handled the Cubs.
We sweep the Cards in round 1, nobody expected them to win the series. We lose to the Phills because we were supposed to win since we so easily handled the Cards.
    2012:
When this team was expected to lose and lose alot, due to a bad team and injuries to our best players, they kicked everyone's asses. Best record in all of baseball.

When this team realized they were way ahead, people started to say they were going far. People were expecting them to keep it going, they knew it and then crumbled.

When the owners made big trades, putting players on the roster to fill holes and improve the team, everyone expected great things. The world looked at them as serious contenders for once. No more miracles were needed, we have a great team now. They crumbled yet again.

So, the theme here is ...this team cannot handle the pressure. They play well when they have nothing to lose. They suck when they realize the have to win.

As I mentioned in another thread...the constant? Kemp, Ethier, and Loney.

i see a bunch of guys ready to preen for the screen hitting ground ball outs and not bearing down for serious at bats.
its as if they are too cool to care much now. not an angry guy amongst them.

I'd say it is more of a lack of talent, we simply aren't that good at all. Ethier is a glorified platoon player and he is our 2nd best hitter, enough said right there.

If u want to put blame on the best player in baseball (top 3 at worst) for this team being shit then go ahead but i will not.

Ethier will be our Vernon Wells soon enough.

I've been saying this for a while: this team lacks fire. Matt Kemp is our best player but necessarily a leader. He's a laid back dude. There's no player on the team that could chew you out and you would listen to.

Yeah, we've made trades (and they were good ones), but none of them have panned out yet. Hanley's hitting in the .240's, Victorino hasn't really been doing a whole lot, Choate got rocked a few times, and I think League has only completed 1 full inning in a game once. Kemp looks like his hot streak is coming to an end, Mark Ellis is hitting in the .250's, Andre isn't driving in runs, can't expect much from Cruz/Loney/Rivera. Literally, everything that can go wrong with this offense is happening right now.

I don't mean to be mean, but I really don't know or care what it is: I Just want it to be fixed. Right now, it boils down to our 3-4-5 doing shit. This is inexcusable really. Our 1-2 punch got on the first two games plenty of times, (7 times the past two games, and that includes 0 from Jerry).

But also, to me and it's just my opinion, Ethier cares (or at least shows it) A LOT more than Kemp/Hanley. Ethier is having a slump, like all ballplayers, but at least he isn't lazily giving away ABs and not hustling down to 1B. He still is, and he still gets mad. I know everyone loves to hate when Ethier gets mad at himself, but how can you say he doesn't have the fire when he just fucking HATES giving away a simple AB?

TB has said it, but it's become predictable what Hanley will do in an AB. Yeah he got two hits yesterday, but his rolling over is so constant now. He has the ability to go the other way, we've seen him do it, so why does he need to roll over? It's a slider low and away and there he is rolling over. And then Kemp, he is getting under everything. Yeah sure, he's gonna get under it cause he can beat the shit out of a baseball and hit it into the pavilion. But, I'd appreciate him to make an adjustment or something

We're probably all over exaggerating and soon enough the biggest problem the Dodgers have will be back to Loney/Rivera cause Kemp-Ethier-Hanley are too talented for this to last very long. But we need them big time, if any of them get a big hit these past games then we win at least 1, if not 2. I hope it happens cause it's already August...

(But fuck me, why the fuck haven't the Giants or DBacks ran away with this yet? Man, we've handed them silver fucking platters!)

I really wish I could believe that but Andre "Vernon Wells" Ethier makes me more pessimistic by the hour.

Vernon Wells when he started his big contract hasn't put up an OPS in total, higher than .660 and this year his OPS total is .630

Ethiers OPS vs. lefties alone is .630... I know since Bills is starting to turn it up theres no one to just throw big hate on but making a Vernon Wells comp on Ethier is pretty premature. Loney/Rivera deserve all the hate, cause theres no one that bad to even make a comparison to, but Ethier being our second best hitter is more about the team than about him.

Man, the totally unjustified Ethier hate is totally ludicrous!

Yeah, comparing Ethier to Vernon Wells is pretty bad!
Same time, Ethier needs to improve. 2 HR in his bast 50+ games aint getting it done. HR aren't everything but yeah. .284 with 11 aint what we need from our cleanup hitter.
