They got a 23 year old meh rookie who is the centerpiece for probably the best second center in the game. Normally I'd feel bad for Sacramento fans, but it's Sacramento fans, so nah. :laff:

I'd be shocked if LAL's offer was just flat out better than the Pelicans' offer.
Seen enough Kupchak/Jim Buss trades for stars to know how they maneuver in these cases.
They more than likely wanted a sweetheart deal because Cousins wouldn't even be available if not for the negativity surrounding him in addition to his FA status after next season.
I could see LAL offering Mozgov + maybe Randle and then trying to include a 3rd team and Lou to net a draft pick for SAC.
SAC covets Ingram, though, so no go and I don't really blame them TBH.
Ingram's a 2-way talent for sure, but forking over the best center in the league to LAL when every LAL dynasty begins w/the best center in the league joining them..

    Pelicans just robbed the queens.

Yeah no way we're the kings trading in Division with us for anything less than ingram, Randle and picks. He'll they probably wanted zubac too.

I just can't fathom the kings at least getting another 1st for him though because that's not gonna be a lottery first so I mean. Hield and evans? Ouch. Sac already got rid of evans. Lol

I don't know, looking back I may have unloaded for cousins. I don't see this core of young guys rivaling gst in a few years. Yeah he got issues but it would have definitely increased the odds of getting another star to play here and it seems that's the wave of the future.

Ingram does have potential to be a superstar, but it's so early. I just don't see it in randle, or dlo.

I don't know. How long are we gonna wait to rebuild.

Best bet is probably battling for a lower seed the next 2 years? 5 more years at least to be seriously competing for a chip with this young core intact.

    We have patience for that?

The fact that Lakers declared Ingram untouchable in Boogie deal is A) sign that mgmt doesn't have gun to their head B) Confidence in BI

    I don't know about.
It's not unheard of for owners to cut their FO off regarding big, dynamic changing transactions when they may be changing directions within the FO soon, or at the very least become hesitant while things are questionable up top.
Not saying that's what happened, but there's a B-side to that " mgmt doesn't have a gun to their head " take

Speculation is that the owner sidestepped Vlade to make this deal.

First year in a beautiful new building downtown and they make a deal like this?

    Not all that shocking.
Cousins would've been eligible for a 200MM extension after this season, so I can understand an owner's hesitance to invest that sort of money in him.
Pretty much what any owner has to be good with when trading for Cousins because he has to get paid around the corner

That this is all Cousins could fetch in a deal might speak volumes about how toxic Cousins is perceived to be around the league.

That and how inept management is in Sacramento.

Cousins' issues would seem to be SAC's saving grace here, but if we go all the way back to the beginning..hell, they drafted him, so it's ultimately still their fault.
    The two can share blame

lol...and Sac traded him for pennies on the dollar so they don't have to resign him to a $210 million extension next year.
This trade cost him $30 million.

    Legion Hoops(@LegionHoops)
Kings were asking for Brandon Ingram, Lou Williams and future firsts in a trade with the Lakers for DeMarcus Cousins, per source.

So they basically wanted LAL's best vet and LAL's best 2-way youngster + draft comp
Not too crazy, seems about right.
And maybe LAL was thinking more like Russell/Mozgov/Young + draft comp for Cousins/Casspi
LAL offered Russell in a package for Cousins back in June of last year

    Lakers are stupid.
They have that plan in 2 years to sign Anothony Davis and Russ Westrbook.
But why would Davis leave the Pelicans now that he has a good team around him?
Cousins is the best center in the league with great low post skills and he can run and shoot, rebound and block shots.
Davis is the best PF in the game who can do it all as well.
These dude are full sized prototypical specimens for their positions as well. And both can play either front court position.
Plus they are young. So why would they not resign with the Pelicans in a few years?
That kills two potential FA moves the Lakers could make.
Either going for Cousins or going after Davis.
Because now they are twin towers who would be smart to stay together as long as they can and take it to LeBron in the east..
Holliday is a fine PG to get these dudes the ball. Frazier is nice too.
Swingmen is all they need, and they are easier to find to fill a quality squad.
Specially when you already this stacked.

That ingram/williams deal isn't too bad...as long as the firsts are relatively protected.

Yeah, now gotta hope that they don't lose the draft pick this year and that player turns into something.
Not sure what FA is going to want to sign up to play with a bunch of untested young players without a real star, so no help there.
looks like the reset button just got hit on the rebuilding process.

Why did the Kings not trade Cousins to the Lakers?
    Basketball Reasons 2.
And again it involves New Orleans.

Russell looks to be the guy that's available from this young core, and that was pertaining to Cousins..could be different regarding other vets that are available.
Being that Ingram's the only kid w/real 2-way potential, I can understand not parting with him for Cousins.
    Way easier to replace Russell.
Also have to consider where LAL would've gone after trading for Cousins..as in, maybe they would've won a tad more and hurt their chances of keeping their Top 3 pick
