    READY FOR ANOTHER POOL PARTY?
*Game three should be Haren/Cahill, but the Dodgers site doesn't have a graphic for that, so fuck 'em.

    :garbage: :laff:
By Steve Adams [April 11 at 11:50am CST]

The Diamondbacks have reached an agreement with veteran left-hander Randy Wolf on a minor league deal, tweets MLBTR's Zach Links. The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro first reported that the two sides were close to a deal, and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweeted that Wolf will start for the club's Triple-A affiliate as soon as Monday. Wolf is represented by the Wasserman Media Group.

The veteran Wolf hasn't pitched in the Major Leagues since 2012 due to Tommy John surgery. He signed a minor league deal with the Mariners this offseason and had been informed that he made the club as the team's fifth starter. However Wolf requested his release when the Mariners asked him to sign a 45-day advance-consent release clause that would allow the team to release him and pay him just a pro-rated portion of his guaranteed salary for any reason other than an injury.

General manager Kevin Towers recently told reporters that he expected to add a veteran starter on a minor league deal in the coming days, and Wolf certainly fits that bill. The 14-year veteran owns a career 4.20 ERA with 7.0 K/9, 3.2 BB/9 and a 39 percent ground-ball rate with the Phillies, Brewers, Padres, Dodgers, Orioles and Astros. The final season of the three-year, $28.5MM contract he signed with the Brewers didn't turn out well, as he wound up posting a 5.65 ERA in 157 2/3 innings between Milwaukee and Baltimore that year before being diagnosed with a torn UCL. However, in the year prior, Wolf posted a strong 3.69 ERA in 212 1/3 innings for the Brew Crew -- his fourth straight season of 190 or more innings.

Wolf will provide rotation depth for a team that has seen its starting pitchers post a combined 6.57 ERA to this point in the young season -- the second-worst mark in all of Major League Baseball.

Team Report - LOS ANGELES DODGERS
    16 hours ago The SportsXchange

LOS ANGELES -- Yasiel Puig made a surprise appearance for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday.

Out of the starting lineup for the third consecutive game due to a sprained ligament in his left thumb, Puig was used as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning of the Dodgers' 7-6, 10-inning loss to the Detroit Tigers.

Puig struck out on three pitches, his first at-bat since Saturday.

The second-year outfielder was fitted with a splint -- similar to the one Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez wore after returning from a torn ligament in his thumb last spring -- that helped him grip a bat.

"It's a bit uncomfortable, but I will adapt," Puig said through an interpreter.

He took swings in the batting cage Tuesday under the stands at Dodger Stadium in case he was needed as a pinch hitter. On Wednesday, he took batting practice on the field with the team.

The Dodgers are off Thursday, giving Puig's thumb another day to heal, and manager Don Mattingly said it was possible Puig would be back in the lineup Friday when the Dodgers open a three-game series in Arizona.

With Puig out, Mattingly has not had to deal with his overcrowded outfield situation. The same trio (Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford) started each of the past three games and four of the past five, including last Friday's game, when Puig was benched for arriving late to the park.

    PLAYER NOTES:
    • OF Mike Baxter, designated for assignment Sunday, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque. Baxter, 29, went 0-for-7 in four games with Los Angeles this season.
    • RHP Jose Dominguez, who had a 12.00 ERA in three relief appearances for the Dodgers this season, was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday. The move cleared a roster spot for the return of RHP Josh Beckett from the disabled list. Dominguez, 23, made his major league debut last year, finishing with no decisions and a 2.16 ERA in nine appearances.
    • RHP Josh Beckett was activated from the disabled list before Wednesday's game, and he started against the Detroit Tigers. He gave up five runs (four earned) on five hits in four innings. It was Beckett's first start in the majors since May 13, 2013. He underwent surgery last year to address thoracic outlet syndrome, then was slowed this spring by a sprained right thumb and later a sprained right ankle.
    • RHP Chad Billingsley restarted his throwing program Wednesday, three days after scar tissue popped in his elbow during a rehab start for Class A Rancho Cucamonga. He is working his way back after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April 2013.
    • RHP Brian Wilson threw 27 pitches in a simulated-game situation before Wednesday's game at Dodger Stadium. Wilson, who landed on the disabled list last week due to a nerve impingement in his right elbow, made rehab appearances for Class A Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday and Monday.
    • LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu will be making his major-league-high fourth start of the season when he starts Friday's game against the Diamondbacks. He is 2-2 with a 4.00 ERA in four career starts against Arizona, including a victory when he threw five scoreless innings in Australia last month.

    QUOTE TO NOTE:

Manager Don Mattingly, on RHP Josh Beckett, who allowed five runs (four earned) in four innings Wednesday in his first start of the season. The Dodgers lost 7-6 in 10 innings against the Tigers...

"Josh was kind of back and forth for me. He seemed like he would get into his rhythm for a few hitters where he's keeping the ball down and hitting spots, then all of a sudden he would get the ball up and fall out of his rhythm. So kind of good and bad with him."

Trumbo's hitting pretty well right now and they just took 2 in a row against San Fran..DBags may be waking up. hopefully we get Puig back in the lineup..interested to see what they do with Dee if Puig is back. imo, Dee is having legit MLB leadoff man ABs for the most part..Puig can leadoff and get on base, but his ABs aren't leadoff man type of ABs. i'd keep Dee leading off..put Puig in the 2-hole or have him hit cleanup. Crawford's seeing the ball well and having good ABs often enough to keep him in the 2-hole, or they could just drop Crawford to the bottom of the lineup..or they could obviously go with Ethier there. to me though..Dee and CC are doin pretty well at the top..they should stick with that for a while. CC's having a better start than Andre.

Just sit Puig again. It's a long season, why risk when there's no real falloff the replacements? Play him against the next lefty.

Speaking of outfielders, can we please put Ethier in center instead of Kemp? That D has taken a serious hit.
