would be a great time for guys like shemp and meithier to pick up the team but we all know thats not happening
3.5 against a surging gnat team is looking pretty small about now
hope we can maintain against the "bad teams" but i'm not liking our mojo at all
losing guys who can actually hit a baseball will do that

SF is not surging by any means. 4-6 in their last 10. Not surging

The Phillies love taking it up the you know what from SF. No surprise SF won that series. I'm worried about the Dodgers, not the Giants

I'm disappointed we couldn't muster a win against the central leaders as well mza. All I can add is that we sucked against the Braves last year and were able to beat them when it counted. Now our issues with Cardinals is a different story.

Whatever the amount of years between they (SF) have won two WS in, they are a far better team than the Dodgers. Or have been. No matter how anyone tries to minimize ofrdilute what they have done, they have two recent championships, and we haven't even been in it. Even if they had two WS Ws in 20 years, which it cetainly isn't, it would still put us to shame.
How that tremendous recent successes against our relentless, dismal failures for the last quarter of a century is sluffed by some off is beyond me.
We actually have to win one.
And if Milwaukee doesn't look like a team of destiny after this last three days, no team ever did. Or maybe it's because we all of a sudden suck and they look so much more like a winner than we do now?

Giants WS' from 3 years ago have ABSOLUTELY no impact on this season, so that is all irrelevant.

and the Giants aren't surging, they've got a few lucky wins the last few days, let's just worry about ourselves, we're fine.

Read so many posts like the above and it's all a bunch of horseshit. How many times I've read "well be fine over the last decades I can't even count.
It's far from "irrelevant", the most overused word when someone doesn't agree, when people are discussing WS series wins when they have two recent ones and our last was in 1988. Ridiculous.
I don't care if the Giants are surging or not (I woud say at this time, they need a bunch more wins to be "surging") , but it is only a word.
I hope we are "fine", but it's only history and a well established team record of failure that all the optimism in the world isn't going to change.
    In fact, it's irrelevant.

he's also been pretty efficient at swiping bags this year and been really efficient at stealing in his post season career. if he gets to 1B, i feel pretty good about his chances of gettin to 2B, so there's your extra base. plus, those HRs from last postseason were extra-extra-extra bases. i know that saying anything good about Crawford is frowned upon in this establishment tho.

is it also a fluke that the Dodgers haven't rallied to a win in the 7th/8th/9th innings at all this year?

i actually take back my stance against Detroit. i'd absolutely be worried about a matchup with DET in the WS. they have 3 starters that could potentially shut down our lineup and even though their bullpen sucks..the Dodgers have sucked at rallying against everybody's bullpen this year. now that i think about it, DET along with maybe Seattle are the teams i'd be cautious about. Seattle's obviously got really good starting pitching as well.

Not entirely. I've been defending Crawford for a while now. Or at least the decision to start him over Ethier anyway.
Yes it is another fluke. There's no explanation for a first place team with zero come from behind wins after the 7th. Someone asked what the record was but what about the record for a first place team? We have to have that record, right?

Milwaukee to me is the team that has a great regular season record then pisses the whole season away in the playoffs. Kinda like Atlanta last year. And I could care less how many games in a row these guys have played, if they need a day off give them a day off. Dummy baseball hasn't been shy doing that before and he damn sure isn't shy about giving bullpen arms a rest.

Getting swept by the brewers at home is one thing, getting swept with our two best pitchers on the bump is completely another.

Yeah, and Ichiro also reeled off 10 consecutive 200+ hit seasons, so he didn't actually have to walk much. Dee ain't gonna even sniff 200. With Ichiro's hits he was putting up OBP numbers from the .350's to the .410's...Dee hasn't cracked .340 yet.

So I'll amend my statement...Dee doesn't walk enough for a guy with less than 200 hits to be a lead off man. Happy?

To be fair, AJ doesn't get to face Haren...

I gotta admit. I felt pretty deflated after this series. Looking back now, aside from the Haren game which was a pure loss, we just missed taking this series. Greinke threw 5 shutout innings but walked 5 and we went into the 8th with a lead. Obviously that got away. It happens. Kershaw threw 97 pitches with 11 strikeouts in a complete game and we lost by 1 in a game when Kersh gave up 2 homeruns. I guess he's human. So yea we got swept but we just missed taking 2 of 3. I don't think it's a stretch to expect a better performance from both our aces should we meet them again in the playoffs and this time around they'll have Ryu to face as well. So after thinking I don't want to face these guys in the playoffs I'm changing my stance. I'm not afraid of them. In 5 or 7 games I believe we win.
