What are you thoughts on the Dodgers 'buying' the O's competitive balance pick?

Love it. Absolutely love it. Great use of the resource.

What kind of future do you see for Zach Lee? Still frontline potential or more backend rotation guy now?

Stuff has regressed slightly. Still see a 4th/5th starter there. Great athlete, good (but less clean) delivery, throws strikes, competes. He's become a little more cross-body though.

My only concern is if they are conceding the very likely possibility that Seager is actually better suited at 3b that they didn't get him more reps at 3b earlier. Maybe they're just seeing how he looks at third if/when he ever needs to move over. Personally I'd keep him at short based on various scouting reports.

Productive hitting short stops are pretty scarce and those who can hit well add tremendous value. Look at Hanley last year. 449 AB, .283/.369/.448 , 135 wRC+, .362 wOBA at the short stop position produced 4.7 oWar. The same offensive profile at 3B would probably yield something close to 4 in my estimation (I haven't calculated the exact positional value but SS is worth +5 runs over 3B).

Numbers are extremely realistic for Corey and if he's simply replacement level with the glove at short that's a 5 win player.
Another promising stat for Corey in the young season is how much contact he's making. Only 1k in 29 PA

Maybe this points to the Dodgers thinking about keeping Rollins beyond this year. Rollins continues to say he wants to be a Dodger for more than 2015.

Absolutely amazing to see what Urias is doing already at the AA level. Wow, I so excite.

I hope Lee is on the bounceback trail, he still has some value and well fuck Albuquerque. That strikeout rate is up is a good sign.

FWIW, like Based said, I'm kind of hoping Seager sticks at SS at least for a few years where his value is even higher, but either way he's fucking awesome.

Our farm system is so awesome, right now.

If his bat is ready I don't see why he can't break in this year at 3B and shift back to SS next season. Gabe Kapler said Seager is an athlete who can be interchangeable on the left side.

I hope not. Forcing a position change on a young player to accommodate a guy playing his swan song isn't the best scenario. On the other hand, if they are just doing it to increase his versatility and value, then so much the better. Third base is going to be the most interesting story of the next few years.

The Cubs stole all of the headlines Thursday and Friday with their decision to promote top prospect Kris Bryant to the majors -- after he finally nailed down the last few intricacies the finer points of infield defense in seven games at Triple-A Iowa(Editor's note: Where is the sarcasm font?).

We might have received some more interesting prospect news Thursday, though this time the lede was buried a bit.Dodgers top prospect Corey Seagerfollowed in his footsteps Thursday by making the move over to third base at Double-A Tulsa, his second appearance as a professional at the position. Though Dodgers farm director Gape Kapler told ESPN.com the move may not be indicative of anything long term, it's hard not to read the writing on the wall, especially if he spends the next few weeks at the hot corner.

The Dodgers have received solid production out of Juan Uribe in recent years, but he is off to a very slow start this season. They also have an intriguing option in Alex Guerrero, who hit .333/.373/.621 in the minors last season, but the team's $28 million man may not be the long-term option if questions persist about his defense.

So, there are road blocks to Seager getting up to the majors as a third baseman. However, Uribe and Guerrero seem more like speed bumps when you consider that a seemingly resurgent Jimmy Rollins is manning short. If Uribe's bat doesn't come to life and Guerrero can't earn the organization's trust, it might not be long until we see Seager up.

Now, he isn't quite on Bryant's level as a prospect, but he isn't far off; Seager enters the season as Baseball America's No. 5 overall prospect. He hit .345/.381/.534 as a 20-year-old at Double-A last season, and has hit below .300 just once in five stops in his minor-league career.

Seager is owned in 26 percent of CBSSports.com leagues, which sounds about right since he probably won't be up for a few weeks at the earliest anyway. However, he seems like a prime candidate to make the jump from Double-A to the majors, so keep a close eye on him in deeper leagues. If the stars align, Seager could be a difference maker by June.

Because you run the risk of screwing with his mentality for just a couple of years of the older player. Many players have seen their offense struggle as they concentrate on learning a new position, some to the point of falling below replacement level players. At a young age it could suspend a players growth curve and hold them back in the minors for a prolonged period. At the same time you have the older player declining in skills while the younger guy could be growing. If the young player is regarded as a future star, it is better to cut ties with the declining star from both the cost and youth standpoints. You're likely to be paying the old guy premium salary for declining skills instead of paying the young guy league minimum or slightly better as he grows into a star. JMO.
