Logan made the pick, but credit the scouts that found the kid first. Those are the dudes who really do the heavy lifting

Those are the true unsung hero's baseball organization, spending upwards of 300 days a year probably more scouting all kinds of leagues.

I have a friend who scouts for a big time team and he has an extremely large coverage area. He drives 1000 miles a week, no joke. It's insanity and takes a certain type of person

Chris, out of curiosity, how much do these guys make? I'm assuming that their full travel expenses are paid for?

I assume under 100k. I just remember someone within the industry saying area scouts are grossly underpaid
    I'd guess 50-75

Well c'mon, I mean any successful draft is the work of scouts. That goes without saying. Especially the bird dogs, those poor guys don't even get paid.

But Logan gets the credit for not only drafting him, but convincing McCourt to pony up the bonus. Was a bigger shock than the Lee deal for me, especially considering everyone at BA said it was a foregone conclusion Joc would go to USC after free falling.

Let's also not forget Joc wasn't some diamond in the rough, he was ranked pretty high by a lot of draft experts.

Depends how long you've been scouting. First year guys are around 35-40. Raises every year can push a veteran to 50-70 & the best scouts (cross checkers, assistants to GM's) make 6 figures.

That "third string catcher" is projected to provide more value over the course of this season than Matt Kemp.

Cool, thanks. Damn, those guys aren't paid well, but that is why i asked the questions. I guess at that point, you are really paying for rent and about half a year's worth of expenses, but still....
