    6'6" and a solid athlete
The way the FO value versatility and athleticism + that 60 arm and size..
I could maybe see him eventually getting some experience on the IF corners down the line

I guess Paroubeck is dead after a pretty solid 2015, but weak 2016
Peters need not go the Paroubeck route.
Not that it's a swish/comparison..Paroubeck not our 4th rd draft pick

That's a shame. I met him back around 2004-05 when he was a kid shortstop. His dad was one my clients and was pretty fired up about his son's baseball skills. I shrugged it off as typical parental exuberance. Years later I was scanning picks following the draft and was surprised to see his name there, selected by the Padres. He went to the same high school as Bonds and even got some coaching from Barry. Guess it wasn't enough. Too bad, I was pulling for the kid to make it.

Alvarez ranked #46 prospect in baseball by Keith Law
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 28 minutes ago

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Yadier Alvarez was rated the No. 46 prospect in baseball by ESPN’s Keith Law in his 2017 ranking of the top 100 prospects. Alvarez was previously named the Dodgers’ top prospect by Baseball Prospectus and placed behind only Cody Bellinger in Baseball America’s rankings.

Alvarez is the first Dodgers prospect to appear in Law’s 2017 lists, which have been unveiled up to No. 41 at this point. Jose De Leon checked in at No. 73 one day after he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays for Logan Forsythe.

The Dodgers signed Alvarez to a $16 million bonus on July 2, 2015, which was the first day of the 2015-16 international signing period. He was just 19 years old at the time and had been ranked the top international prospect by FanGraphs and No. 2 by MLB.com.

Alvarez was part of a significant haul when the Dodgers blew past their allotted bonus pool money on the first day of the signing period to ink the right-hander as well as shortstop Ronny Brito, infielder Oneil Cruz and outfielder Starling Heredia, among others.

Alvarez made his professional debut last June with the Arizona League Dodgers. He went 1-1 in five starts, striking out 26 batters in 20 innings pitched, and yielding a minuscule 1.80 ERA.

After that is was off to Low-A Great Lakes, where the right-hander concluded the 2016 season. Alvarez went 3-2 with a 2.29 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 39.1 innings across nine starts for the Loons.

He recorded 10 strikeouts in each of his first two starts with the Loons, and averaged 12.6 strikeouts per nine innings with the affiliate.

The Dodgers’ confidence in Alvarez reportedly led to the club refusing to make him available in a potential Brian Dozier trade, and seemingly played a factor in the team’s willingness to trade De Leon. Alvarez turns 21 years old on March 7.

Buehler and Verdugo ranked Top-40 prospects by Keith Law
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 17 minutes ago

Los Angeles Dodgers Minor League right-hander Walker Buehler and outfielder Alex Verdugo were ranked the No. 40 and No. 31 prospects in baseball, respectively, by ESPN’s Keith Law. Right-handed pitching prospect Yadier Alvarez was previously rated No. 46 by Law.

Buehler was selected 24th overall by the Dodgers in the 2015 Draft. He then proceeded to sign with the club well below slot value, which was another surprise on top of the right-hander slipping out of the top-15 picks.

However, Buehler did miss time during his junior season at Vanderbilt due to a sore elbow, and the Dodgers announced three weeks after signing their top pick in the 2015 Draft that he was set to undergo Tommy John surgery.

Buehler returned to the mound last July, though only made three regular-season starts. His professional debut came with Low-A Great Lakes, where the right-hander collected two strikeouts and issued one walk in what was otherwise two spotless innings.

Buehler then pitched out of relief with the Arizona League Dodgers one month later, throwing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. He returned to the Loons and threw one shutout inning in his next start.

The 22-year-old then pitched twice in the playoffs, including a start in the decided game of a best-of-three series that sent the Loons to the Midwest League Eastern Division Championship. Buehler didn’t factor into the decision, but he contributed two scoreless frames.

Buehler’s 2016 campaign then came to a close when he turned in three shutout innings to help the Loons pull even in the Midwest League Championship Series after dropping Game 1.

Buehler was rated the Dodgers’ sixth-best prospect for the 2017 season by Baseball Prospectus. Along with Alvarez, he reportedly was off the table in a potential Brian Dozier trade.

Verdugo was ranked the Dodgers’ No. 4 prospect by Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus. He spent last season with Double-A Tulsa, in what was his first time playing above High-A.

Verdugo hit .273/.336/.407, setting career highs with 13 home runs, 63 RBI and 44 walks in 126 games for the Drillers. He joined Triple-A Oklahoma City for the Pacific Coast League championship, and went 4-for-12 with three RBI while appearing in four games.

The 20-year-old Verdugo was then among the group of prospects sent to the Arizona Fall League. He struggled some due to fatigue, but was named to the Fall Stars Game. However, Verdugo did not participate as he joined the Mexican National Team for an exhibition series in Japan.

Like either one of his parents or grandparents is from Mexico. No problem with him playing in the WBC. Nice to see him play in some competitive games.

Keith Law ranks Bellinger baseball’s #6 prospect
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 2 hours ago

Los Angeles Dodgers Minor League first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger was rated the No. 6 prospect in all of baseball by ESPN’s Keith Law. Bellinger was ranked No. 92 by Law prior to the 2016 season.

In total, the Dodgers had four players named to Law’s ranking of the top 100 prospects for the 2017 season. After Bellinger, Los Angeles was represented by outfielder Alex Verdugo (No. 31) and right-handed pitchers Walker Buehler (No. 40) and Yadier Alvarez (No. 46). The quartet was ranked among the Dodgers’ top 10 prospects by Baseball Prospectus, while Baseball America named Bellinger, Alvarez and Verdugo to their list.

The Dodgers selected Bellinger out of Hamilton High School (Chandler, Ariz.) in the fourth round of the 2013 Draft. He burst onto the scene with in 2015 behind a strong campaign with High-A Rancho Cucamonga, and rode that success into last season.

Bellinger hit .263/.359/.484 with 17 doubles, 23 home runs and 65 RBI over 117 games with Double-A Tulsa. He played first base (81 games), left field (13), center field (13) and right field (nine) for the Drillers.

Bellinger was promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City last September, and went 6-for-11 with three home runs and five RBI in three regular-season games.

The 21-year-old then batted .250/.364/.361 with one double, one home run, six runs scored, five RBI and seven walks in nine games during Oklahoma City’s playoff run that concluded with a defeat in the Pacific Coast League championship.

Bellinger finished last year in the Arizona Fall League, where he hit .314/.424/.557 with eight doubles and three home runs in 20 games for the Glendale Desert Dogs.

In addition to receiving national recognition from Baseball America, Baseball Prospects and ESPN, Bellinger was rated the top first base prospect by MLB Pipeline.

Being a 1B surprisingly hurts his stock in the eyes of some(as is the case with many 1B). He can play the OF, but he is not a world beater out there as he's viewed as passable, which with his bat is fine. So not too surprising when you see the names you do ahead of him. 6 MIF's all viewed with + to ++ tools in the field and bats to match, 3 CF's and 3 projected frontline starters. Doesn't mean that folks don't still see him as a star in the making, it is just the other guys ahead of him are so much more valuable to a team. If you actually go through some of those guys, they aren't even close to the same level as him with the stick yet, they're just "projected" to get there so they are viewed a little more highly.

Everyone says the same thing about Alvarez in that he is just not far enough removed from his command woes, but they all say that if he shows that last year was him getting right, he will rocket up the list. He builds on last year and shows better development with his secondary pitches, he could be Top 10 by midseason which is something I have seen written a few times.

Law has been high on Verdugo much like Sickels is. For where his bat is currently and to go along with his age, I am a little shocked that he is not viewed high. His speed in the OF is a bit of an issue and is his lack of power for the RF position brings him down somewhat. Still need to remember that he is very young for the level he is at and has displayed thus far that he has the tangibles to be really fucking good.

Calhoun and Buehler are also in the "Gotta Show Something" boat. Calhoun needs to show that his D has improved and Buehler needs to show that last year was not a fluke, or at least super far off. Be sweet if he could develop his change to that next step and keep that fastball as he would have 4+ pitches with one close to ++, that's an ace right there.

Bellinger, Verdugo lead Keith Law’s Top-10 Dodgers prospects
by Daniel Starkand | Dodger Blue — 17 minutes ago

After ranking the top 100 prospects in baseball, ESPN’s Keith Law has now started releasing lists of top-10 prospects for every organization. For the Los Angeles Dodgers, he placed first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger atop the list.

Bellinger is followed by outfielder Alex Verdugo, right-handed pitchers Walker Buehler and Yadier Alvarez, who were rated No. 3 and 4 respectively, outfielder Yusniel Diaz (5), catcher/infielder Austin Barnes (6), shortstop Gavin Lux (7), second baseman/shortstop Omar Estevez (8), right-handed pitcher Mitchell White (9) and righty pitcher Jordan Sheffield (10).

Law placed second baseman Willie Calhoun and right-hander Brock Stewart just outside the Dodgers’ top-10 prospects, at Nos. 11 and 12, respectively.

Bellinger, who Law recently ranked the sixth-best prospect in all of baseball, hit .263/.359/.484 with 17 doubles, 23 home runs and 65 RBIs in 117 games with Double-A Tulsa.

He played first base (81 games), left field (13), center field (13) and right field (nine) for the Drillers. The 21-year-old was promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City last September, and went 6-for-11 with three home runs and five RBIs in three regular-season games.

Bellinger was previously rated the organization’s top prospect by Baseball America and second-best by Baseball Prospectus.

Verdugo spent last season with the Drillers, playing above High-A for the first time in his career. Verdugo batted .273/.336/.407, setting career highs with 13 home runs, 63 RBIs and 44 walks in 126 games.

He joined Oklahoma City for the Pacific Coast League championship, and went 4-for-12 with three RBIs while appearing in four games.

Buehler was limited to pitching just five regular-season innings in 2016 after returning from Tommy John surgery. He did not allow a hit while striking out six and walking three between Low-A Great Lakes and the Arizona League. Buehler threw a combined five scoreless innings in two playoff starts.

The flame-throwing Alvarez pitched 59.1 innings at the same two levels as Buehler last season, yielding a combined 2.12 ERA while striking out 81 and walking 21.

Diaz appeared in 85 games in 2016, with all but three coming with the Quakes. He hit .272/.333/.418 with eight doubles, seven triples, eight home runs and 54 RBIs for the Quakes. Diaz turned 20 years old in October.

Barnes was the primary catcher for Oklahoma City last season and a third catcher and infielder for the Dodgers. His time in the Majors was limited to just 21 games, with the 27-year-old going 5-for-32 with one double and two RBIs.

Barnes batted .295/.380/.443 with 22 doubles, five triples, six home runs and 39 RBIs in 85 games with OKC. He’s expected to serve as the backup catcher to Yasmani Grandal this season.

Lux, who was the Dodgers’ first round-pick in the 2016 Draft, spent time with Rookie Level Arizona League Dodgers and Ogden. He hit a combined .296/.375/.399 with 21 RBIs and 41 runs scored in 56 games.

Estevez, an 18-year-old Cuban native, batted .255/.298/.389 with nine home runs and 61 RBIs in 122 games with the Loons in 2016.

White, the Dodgers’ second-round pick in 2016, pitched at three different levels last season and did not permit an earned run in 22 innings, while striking out 30 and walking six.

Sheffield, who is the club’s third 2016 draftee to make the list, was chosen 36th overall out of Vanderbilt. He allowed 11 hits and five runs in 12 innings in between the AZL Dodgers and Great Lakes.

The Dodgers recently placed six players on the ZiPS Top 100 prospects list, and had five named to MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 prospects list for the 2017 season.

Law loves his bat, but doesn't think he has a position as he hates his defense.

Really followed Paroubeck during that draft year. Too bad, kid had a ton of potential but that happens to 90% of HS prospects.

On a side note, here are Bellinger's grades from BA. Didn't see if anyone had posted them yet.

    Batting: 60 Power: 70 Speed: 50 Defense: 70 Arm: 60
