Couple this with the age discrimination, and you've got troubles now, Irish.
Al's on his way; right after MO, then out to your crib.

I don't wanna get another thread started with us, but man you are 2,000% wrong here, and I'll tell you why. Down 5 runs as you said the one out doesn't make that much difference (except you should never give away an out),and I agree. But the opposite is also true, down by 5 that one single run doesn't make a difference either. But just suppose he does score in that situation, running through the stop sign, being overly aggressive, and generally out of control. He scores and that image sticks with him, he probably already thinks he's superhuman. Now in a different game, a 1 run game in a similar situation, he says "fuck it, it worked last time" and he gets TOOTBLAN. The team loses a winnable game because he decided he knew more than the coaches and took an unnecessary chance. Suppose that's a playoff game?

THAT is why he had 3 coaches in his face. He's got to know that he has to listen and watch the coaches and play for the team, not for his ego. He's got to know that he's letting his teammates down when he plays out of control. His teammates should be in his face in that situation as well (well, not in his face, but they should talk to him about it). As coaches, it's their job to make sure the players know when they've crossed the line, and they did.

you're assuming nobody's gonna tell him the difference between the two instances, or that no one's already told him the difference..covered that point exact point not long ago in this back and forth. it's a teaching point, but he doesn't need 3 coaches meeting him in the dugout right after because he was fine in tryin to get a spark goin in this instance. the last thing that needs to happen is Puig feeling like he's playing against his own manager and coaches, or feel like he's being ganged up on and tied down when there's no need. they actually did a better job of this last year. he's gaining experience and having different failures..all for the better in due time.

this just wasn't the instance for this sorry ass coaching staff to put him on blast like that. regardless of the lack of logic..when Hanley misplays a ball defensively, what 3 coaches are meeting him when he gets back the dugout? and Correia's out there gettin pounded by the Mets of all people..3 coaches meeting with him when he gets to the dugout? the point is, a guy can start feeling like he's the scapegoat. as a fanbase we get tired of the national media blowing everything out of proportion when it comes to Puig..well, we need to have the same emotions when it comes to this coaching staff's treatment of Puig. he's got a great heart and he's hard enough on himself when screws up..it doesn't take 3.

Ok, we're gonna just disagree. You seem to have missed the point. There is NO difference between the two instances, you play smart all the time when you are behind, whether by 1 or by 5. The only time it's remotely excusable is if you're up by 5, and then it better be in the late innings.

And I'm sorry, but there is absolutely no comparison between Hanley's lack of fielding talent or Corriea's lack of pitching ability and Puigs decision to run through a stop sign. That has to be the world's worst attempt to rationalize an action. Puig had a choice, Hanley and Correia just suck at what they do. They can't help it.

I understand your position, but disagree totally.

didn't you know that before you tagged in?

nah, i havent' missed the point. there wasn't anything stupid about the play in the 1st place. just good ol' fashion aggression and a chance to be the spark he's been for much of his career with the team down big.

why are you sorry? i actually said " regardless of the lack of logic " it presents on it's face before going on because i knew you'd disagree with the comparison initially. but the point is that guys aren't perfect out there. they make mistakes..mistake pitches, misplay balls defensively, run through stop signs, etc. blowing one mistake out of proportion and letting others slide really is no different than the game the media plays with Puig and how long before he grows frustrated with that approach? and because he has such a great heart..we'll see his frustration in his game, right? and then when that happens ( very likely happening right now)..regardless of all the shit everybody gives him..he's still our very best everyday impact player, so yea let's alienate him. no, he's hard enough on himself and he doesn't need THAT many people coming at him when he reaches the dugout. he's not a teenager. they didn't do it to him last year, don't do it now. half the battle is learning from experience and failures.

well, before you respond to this..let's finish with the other thread because you didn't respond there.

Ok, I didn't read it the way you intended it. Still it's an ill conceived comparison no matter how you preface it. Unintentionally miss-playing a ground ball or hanging a pitch up in the zone because it didn't come out of your hand right is not even in the same universe with deliberately running through a stop sign.

I'll probably get around to it this weekend, it's been a shitty week.

but the bottom line is that they're mistakes and if you really wanna harp on what happened in that game, Hanley's and Corriea's miscues had far more impact in the outcome of the game. their miscues are likely the reason that Puig forced the issue and tried to spark the team in the 1st place. down 5 runs, you think 1 run doesn't matter..i disagree. some guys just spark teams more than others. there was nothing to lose there and everything to gain with Puig being a potential spark.

the idea that Puig was just " going for the gusto because he's selfish and playing for his ego " is what's probably the most ill-conceived theory thus far. when Puig slams into walls in the outfield is that ego, or is he playing to win? people see his miscues, fuck ups, highlights, physique and everything else and the last thing that gets noticed about Puig is that the kid plays to win.
