It's nice to be recognized and well deserved awards for both. The timing makes it feel like a consolation prize that is simply not important, but I know if we got screwed out of these awards (especially ROY) everyone would be lighting torches and grabbing pitchforks. So well done, new guys.

I assume Seager is a lock for the main ROY award as well.

Dodgers have a real good team. Cubs are a bit better.
Still, our team is in the top five in baseball.

Whichever one or two or three aren't resigned, there will be adequate replacements...for sure.
    And economical ones, too.

I don't like to use them, myself...I find them impure.
Not like the FO at all.

problem is there's going to (continue to) be a lot of dead weight on the roster regardless

What I really meant is there will be economical replacements...adequate was a typo.

Dodgers coaching staff to return intact in 2017
by Eric Stephen | True Blue LA — 10 hours ago

LOS ANGELES — After coming within two wins of the franchise’s first World Series in 28 years, the Dodgers entire coaching staff will return intact in 2017, manager Dave Roberts said on Monday at Dodger Stadium.

Seven of the eight Dodgers on the staff were in their first year as Dodgers coaches, including Roberts, with longtime pitching coach Rick Honeycutt the lone holdover from the previous staff.

Bench coach Bob Geren, Honeycutt, hitting coach Turner Ward, first base coach George Lombard, third base coach Chris Woodward, assistant hitting coach Tim Hyers and bullpen coach Josh Bard all helped Roberts in his first year as manager.

"For the coaches to come together, in the first year for a lot of us to be together, I thought the work ethic, the eagerness to teach, the energy was consistent all year long,” Roberts said. “After a first year of us trying to get to know one another, for them to connect with the players which is the most important thing, we did that. I'm excited for year two.”

The Dodgers won a fourth consecutive division title in 2016 despite putting 28 different players on the disabled list. The club also had 13 rookies, including Corey Seager, Kenta Maeda, Julio Urias, Ross Stripling, Trayce Thompson and others playing major roles on the team.

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman credited the atmosphere created by the coaching staff and everybody being on the same page for the latter.

"A great byproduct of the cultural change and shift that we saw on the major league side with Doc and his coaches was to be able to provide that soft landing spot,” Friedman explained. ”That environment where guys could come up and thrive and not be afraid to compete, and were put in positions to succeed.

“It could not have worked out any better this year, and I think that's a cultural environment that's going to continue and grow off of itself and be furthered. That part is critical. If you don't have that environmental piece, it's really difficult on a contending team to bring young players up and expect to continue to contend and get the most out of them.”

Roberts on Monday was named 2016 Sporting News Manager of the Year, voted on by fellow managers, and is expected to be a top contender for the BBWAA award in three weeks.

"To get recognized is a great honor, but something for me that is a team award. I can't tell you how much support I've gotten in the first year,” Roberts said. “The title says manager of the year, but it's a team and organization award for me.”

In addition to the organization being seemingly on the same page, from the front office through the coaching staff, the ancillary benefit of the staff returning is more time to focus on roster moves this offseason.

Last year, Roberts was officially hired on Nov. 22, with his coaching staff announced on Dec. 17.

The team has a fantasy football league among them for crying out loud and you pick on Yasiel for saying this inane desire? They can't think baseball 24/7.

    apples and oranges
guys competing against each other in fantasy football is camaraderie
plus what physical activity does that involve (remember hanley?)
but when you isolate yourself from said team for some selfish act while you should be focusing on the task at hand?
what does that say when every other member of the team is focused on job one, the job they're all being paid to do?
and the 24/7 remark is a bit odd considering he was thinking about baseball
but not the right team, goal
just shows where his head is at, at least to me
he's being paid to play for the dodgers; to do his best to help his team get as far as they can
and the fact that his mind/priorities are elsewhere speaks volumes about his selfishness
you can apologize for him all you want
but the bottom line is he doesn't get the team first mentality

You wrote the word focusing when describing his thoughts which is incorrect, it was a desire just like a desire to get points in a fantasy league. My 24/7 comment is because you inferred it was a distraction and it is a distraction that is needed in a season. Sorry Irish but you are not in his head and don't know what he was thinking you are only assuming. You don't like him so you nitpick and IMHO this is a classic nitpick. This is a NON story and I didn't apologize for him I merely pointed out the error of your ways.

    what?
    so with the playoffs approaching
instead of being focused on playing his best in the postseason
his priorities should be playing for mexico in the wbc?
    okay

    Not the least bit surprised.
Aside from the fact that his focus is always questionable, Puig actually said he wished the Dodgers had traded him rather than demoting his 2 faced ass to work on his craft and his attitude.
Comparing fantasy league stuff between teammates to Puig having his mind on his own WBC bid is a hard stretch.
Bottom line, after they told him what was up at the deadline, Puig wanted to play elsewhere and knows the Dodgers don't want him anymore, so him thinking about the WBC at a crucial point in the season is, well, expected for somebody like him who lacks focus and professionalism.
That's why the part time role was perfect for him..he's truly a part time effort sort of SOB

Just read the article in the interest of fair play but he said this 2 weeks prior to the regular season ending. Plenty of time to focus on the playoffs if I am to assume your supposition was correct AND he asked Friedman for permission. See absolutely nothing wrong as I wrote.

He did everything the FO asked him to do and paid his dues in AAA, what more do you want? By the way he is a lousy pinch hitter so part-time duty in that regard would be a disaster. The fantasy league was just 1 example of a distraction, it could be family trouble, kids on your nerves etc. AGAIN he expressed this desire 2 weeks prior to the end of the season and asked permission. Nobody in the organization came out with statements panning his desires, nobody said he played badly because of this so where's the smoke?

I look at Puig's infatuation with the WBC as just more PR, which he is damn good at.
All the hashtags, custom gear, and other corny shit he does to get love..meanwhile acting an ass behind the scenes and feeling like he can't be held accountable for 1 reason or another.
Reminds me of the FO having to force him to get into better shape and him blowing them off like " whatever, I'll do it, but I don't think it has anything to do with making me better. "

^Did you read the reason why he wants to play for Mexico? Seems like a mature way to give back to the country he feels saved his life. Players don't mature at the same rate HOPEFULLY he has turned the corner if not he's gone and history will judge if that would be the wrong decision.
