Alex Gordon would've been a good fit atop the lineup, but I guess they would've spent so much $ in ridding themselves of Ethier and Crawford that at some point the value just wouldn't have added up.
If Robitaille familiarized himself with Howie's splits there'd be no chance he'd hit Howie any other place than 4-7.
What those around the game were saying about the Dodgers and how they would've missed Howie's consistency with men on base is true.
He's best used behind their big OBP guys.

In regards to locking down the leadoff role, hard to consider any of those high OBP guys when they don't play everyday, so just not sure how it can " locked down " by them.
Turner's gonna sit every 4th day, Ethier's gonna sit against lefties, Grandal's gonna sit 45-50 games if we're lucky, and not even going there with Adrian.
Under the circumstances we'll probably see a host of SOBs in the leadoff spot this season, so Robitaille's piece may have been indicative of what's coming in those regards.
That said, if they did want to hand it to a single guy on let's just say " most days ", Grandal would be my choice.
A guy who gets on base at a good clip when healthy, but unlike Turner/Ethier/Adrian he isn't so good at the plate with guys on base/RISP that they'd miss him in the middle of the order behind their big OBP guys.
Sort of a quality guy we can spare behind the 8-9 spots.
Plus he's a switch hitter that could stick there against tough lefties and bring some of the aforementioned staying power.

Wouldn't expect 3-4-5 in the order to change much.
If one assumes that Corey will hit in the top half like I do, well that means our guys who hit well with men on base should remain in the middle, 3-6.
So " most days " for me the order would be Grandal/Corey/Adrian/Turner/Ethier/Howie/Puig/Joc.
And if those last 2 guys in the order wake up and smell the coffee then like you said on behalf of Puig it's all reconsidered at that point, or if they eventually add Yuli Gourriel by say June the same reconsideration applies as Yuli could potentially be the best hitter on the team.
But all in all, fuck this entire leadoff exercise, still wish they'd signed Alex Gordon.

You talk about a haul..if LAD signs both Yuli and Lourdes along with Lazarito after signing Alvarez, Diaz, and Estevez perhaps that'll be enough to kickstart an international draft.
I can already hear small market teams crying.
But yeah, the fact that Yuli and Lourdes are trying to get together on one team bodes well for the big market clubs that can afford such a haul.
Just assuming, but it seems like Yuli's floor is gonna be 4yrs/65-70MM..gotta believe that they'll bring in well over 100MM combined.
