Have a gigantic TV deal, unless TWC isn't paying them, they shouldn't be.

I think it is a cause of concern for TWC, but not the Dodgers. They have a contract and need to fulfill the terms of the contract, not the Dodgers fault that TWC and DirecTV can't come to terms on a reasonable deal. Everyone keeps saying that the Dodgers sold out, when in all likelihood, we are seeing the same thing if DirecTV had won the bidding and the table was flipped. There needs to be a class action suit by LA market fans that are not able to get TWC against both companies to get them to the table and end this debacle. The only people I don't feel bad for are the ones that could switch over to TWC, but stay with DirecTV and still complain about not being able to watch. That to me is not someone that truly cares about the team, but are just someone that enjoys complaining.

I switched from Dish to TWC. I pay more and the service has been spotty but I get the games.

LOL... Sportsnet airing fewer ST games reminded me of how MTV doesn't play music videos anymore. What's the point, more back to back to back Backstage Dodgers reruns, or worse, seeing Tommy slumped in that chair reliving the glory of 88?

What's spotty about it? Curious because I'm seriously contemplating a change to TWC.

I work from a home office so need Internet to be rock solid.

Give and take. Maybe they don't want some shitty TV service with shitty customer service (so I've heard).

I had DirecTV and it was fucking awful. Every month my bill was higher and higher even though I had a two year contract with set pricing. They'd always tell some bullshit story and say they wiped it off and I'd see it on my next bill... never fucking happened. They were charging me $200+ a month when my contract was for $65 after everything. I abruptly cancelled and refused to pay the buy out. It went to a collection company where I sent my docs showing they overcharged me. This 3rd party collection company dropped my dispute and the person on the phone said, "You wouldn't believe how much they do this. We're just glad you had the right paperwork." If that isn't shitty customer service, I don't know what is. I've since switched to comcast, have 150 MPS internet(performs at 175), HBO, Starz, DVR and 3 boxes for $85 for 2 years. I've always found TWC & Comcast to be similar in my dealings, just need to know how to talk with them and always keep records of your conversations.

Update: Dodger senior vice president of baseball operations Josh Byrnes spoke to reporters today about Sierra, who is expected to arrive in camp in the next day or two …

“This is all new to him,” Byrnes said. “He hasn’t thrown off a mound yet (here), so he’ll probably be a touch behind, but not too far behind.

“It’s kind of an interesting history. Like a lot of guys from over there, he’s kind of pitched at all angles, a lot of breaking balls. But we also saw some other things, especially a two-seamer we liked. His four-seam velocity is up to 97-98, his two-seamer is really good, 91-93, the slider — he’s working on a change. He’s got a lot of power in his arsenal, good delivery. We like his makeup, and we’ve got to keep developing him. He’s fairly far along, but still has some room to grow as we turn him into a Major League pitcher.”

Byrnes said that the Dodgers’ intent is to develop Sierra as a starter, and that he would begin his Dodger career in the minors.

“I think a lot of guys, you have that debate — starter or reliever — and it’s nice to have a fallback, but I think we want to at least shoot for starter,” Byrnes said, “because there’s enough there that gives him a chance.”

Control has been an issue for Sierra, but the Dodgers are hopeful that streamlining his delivery will address that.

“I asked him (about it) a week or so ago, because throwing strikes is essential, and he just doesn’t look like a guy who’d have problems with it, as we watched him the last several months, so it sort of begs the question,” Byrnes said. “He knows that that part of his history maybe is a function of a different style of pitching, but we’re going to really, really emphasize throwing strikes.”

    i have a unique situation
the house that i rent comes with a direct tv premium package; all the movie and sports channels
its part of the deal, so switching to twc is not an option
would prefer watching it on tv, but i don't mind watching the streams
there's other options like apple tv et al with unlocator
but tbh, i haven't gone that route because i didn't want to invest in something and then have twc and direct tv strike a deal
and who honestly expected it to drag out this long?:waiting:

Can't you just do mlb.tv and one of those unblocking sites and connect your laptop/computer to the TV?

Put it this way, I'm on a first name basis with 3 repair supervisors. I've had to change out my DVR's a couple times and the modem a lot to find the best one to work with my ATT Microcell. I also have to constantly fight with them to keep my billing what it's supposed to be. For the record, I pay $191 for whole house DVR with 3 boxes and 5 movie channels, I have phone service and TWC Extreme internet with Mbps that averages in the 230's down and 24 or so up.

Bottom line: I used to run TWC just for The Internet, Magicjacks for voice and Dish for TV, which was cheaper with better DVR's. TWC is way better for Internet than Verizon DSL and I pay more now since I added the phone service. I guess I do bleed blue! :)

    Hope that helps?

    Urias ready for big moments
by Justin Russo | Dodgers Nation — 2 hours ago

At just 19 years old, the top left-handed pitching prospect in the game, Julio Urias, has the entire pride and passion of his home country on his side. The native of Culiacan, Mexico is confident that he’s ready for big moments, and the Los Angeles Dodgers hope he is.

Last season, the 6-foot-2 stud threw 68.1 innings at Double-A. He finished with a 2.77 ERA and struck out 74 batters while walking just 15. His poise was evident even then. And it was evident as he struggled for two starts in Triple-A, giving up 9 earned runs in 4.1 innings.

From Tim Brown at Yahoo! Sports:
“He’s a down-to-earth, humble kid,” said Matt Herges, Urias’ pitching coach in Double-A Tulsa. “It’s so rare for a kid of his stature, too. I mean, the weight of the world is on him. At least the weight of his country. Really, it’s inspiring to me. He’s confident, but he’s not too confident. He knows he hasn’t earned this yet.”

That’s the most incredible thing. A 19-year old has mastered the art of being confident but not too confident all while the “weight of his country” is on his shoulders. It makes you understand just a little more exactly what motivates and drives the young lefty.

The Dodgers certainly believe they’ve struck gold in Urias, and he seems poised enough to deliver on that belief. His dominance in the minors at such a young age is one of the best stories in recent memory.

Urias made his debut for the Dodgers at the ripe age of 16 years old. He debuted directly in Single-A, and pitched 54.1 innings, finished with a 2.48 ERA, and struck out 67 batters. Even from the start he was damn good.

When he was 17 years old, Urias pitched at Rancho Cucamonga in Single-A-Advanced, and struck out 109 batters in 87.2 innings while finishing with a 2.36 ERA. He just kept dominating.

And then, last year, at just 18 years old, Urias pitched 80.1 innings and finished with a combined 4.15 ERA. But he fanned 88 batters. In total in his minor league career, he has a 2.91 ERA and 264 strikeouts in 222.1 innings. The hype is justified.

But, if you ask Urias, he doesn’t want to be just hype:
“I have to say,” he said Saturday morning through translator and fellow prospect Jose De Leon, “my goal is to play in the big leagues this year.”

If Urias truly makes the big leagues this season, then that’d be a special story. Still, the team has him on a timetable and 2017 seems more likely. Either way, the lefty makes us harken back to thoughts of Fernando Valenzuela, a fellow Mexican youngster who captivated Hollywood.

As Urias follows in Valenzuela’s footsteps, the 19-year old looks to etch out his own place in Dodgers history. With his attitude, polish, and talent, he seems like a lock to do so.

    way to take control donnie
that should be good for at least an additional 7 wins... making your team's total 69 instead of 62

Mattingly enacts no facial hair policy with Marlins
by Mark Townsend | Big League Stew — 3 hours ago
    [IMG]
It turns out the cosmetic changes at Miami Marlins camp weren't just limited to their spring training facility. According to an Associated Press report, new manager Don Mattingly is also bringing back the team's no facial hair policy effective immediately.

This represents quite a change for Mattingly, who had no such rules during his five seasons managing the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also famously sported a mustache throughout his career with the New York Yankees. Of course, the Yankees are quite famous for their grooming etiquette, which one time led to Mattingly being benched when he refused to cut his hair.

The Marlins last had a strict facial hair policy in 2011, but that was abandoned under the Ozzie Guillen regime.

"Guys will whine. Some guys like it, some guys won't. As long as we're consistent, I think it's not that big of a deal," Mattingly said on Sunday.

Among those impacted are superstar pitcher Jose Fernandez and All-Star second baseman Dee Gordon. Fernandez had a beard last season, while Gordon frequently sported a goatee.

"I'm afraid I'm going to look 16," Fernandez said. "But it's not a big deal. Whatever the rules are, we're going to follow them."

The Marlins are obviously going for a more professional look, but above that in Mattingly's mind seems to be consistency. He wants everyone operating on the same level and living within the same guidelines. It won't impact how they play, of course, but the thinking is it reminds everyone that they're equals and that no one player has more leeway than the others.

"Initially not too many guys were happy about it," said reliever Mike Dunn, who was forced to part with his goatee. "You can fight it, or you don't. Obviously I shaved, so it's OK."

It's just facial hair, after all, but it is an interesting message to send. Many felt the Marlins grossly underachieved last season, so perhaps Mattingly's idea is to engage his players right away and channel the response into a greater focus on the task at hand.

That's one possibility anyway. Another is that it's just a silly, outdated line of thinking that will fall flat and make Mattingly look more like a dictator than a manager.

Both possibilities exist, but the reality is the Marlins will have to play better baseball if they hope for better results. That's how baseball has always worked, and that's how baseball will continue to work.

Lincecum’s agent says he’s talked to Padres number of times
CSN Bay Area — 90 minutes ago

If you can't beat them, join them. Well, that's not exactly the case with Tim Lincecum, but would be with the San Diego Padres if they decide to sign the free agent pitcher.

Lincecum, whose entire nine-year career has been with the Giants, has enjoyed an abundance of success when facing the Padres. And now, the two-time Cy Young award winner is on San Diego's radar.

“I’ve talked with the Padres a number of times throughout the offseason, but I’ve also spoken to quite a few other teams,” Lincecum’s agent, Rick Thurman, told The San Diego Union Tribune on Saturday.

Lincecum has twice threw a no-hitter against the Padres. He threw the first no-hitter in Petco Park history on July 13, 2013, and then tossed another one year later on June 25, 2014 at AT&T Park.

In 33 career games against San Diego, Lincecum is 18-6 with a 2.20 ERA. His 18 wins are the most against any team he has faced and a 2.20 ERA is his best with at least 10 starts.

San Diego has also been quite the friendly park for Lincecum. In 18 games at Petco Park, he sports a 9-3 record with a 2.41 ERA.

After undergoing hip surgery on Sept. 3, it was thought that Lincecum would host a showcase to show where he stands in mid-January, but has since been pushed back. Thurman said at least 20 teams have requested medical information on the righty.
