Can't say with any certainty, but I think what Dave is getting at is that he doesn't want the rest of the team to sink into that "what are we gonna do" feeling. Keeping the team upbeat is definitely part of the job, and trying to get them to have confidence in the depth of the squad should be a major focus. Distraction was probably not the choice term there.

Kemp is having a very interesting spring training. Marked by before Mark McQuire eventually showed up and after. Before unevenful and as soon as Mac came he reverted to second half 2014 form. They both laughed and Kemp said Mac is the best thing there is for him etc. It only took one day to correct things.

    true but...
hitting against pitchers working on location/pitches/pitch count and/or low minor leaguers in the spring is one thing
hopefully he can sustain it when the games begin mattering and, just as (if not, more) importantly, stay healthy

Puig scratched from lineup vs. Mariners
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — moments ago

The Los Angeles Dodgers managed to get through Friday night’s game against the San Francisco Giants without needing to scratch a player from the lineup, which has been a trend this spring. Puig was removed after three innings, however the reasoning was due to the Dodgers playing day-night split-squad games on Saturday.

Puig is coming off a season in which multiple hamstring injuries forced him to spend a considerable amount of time on the disabled list. He appeared in a career-worst 69 games and batted .255/.322/.436 with 11 home runs, 38 RBIs, .328 wOBA and 111 wRC+, and was largely a non-factor.

Dodgers president of baseball operations instructed the dynamic outfielder to lose weight during the offseason with the hope it would free Puig of nagging hamstring issues.

As other Dodgers have fallen victim to the injury bug over recent weeks, Puig managed to remain healthy. The only time he missed — one day — was at the outset of camp and due to lingering effects of having his wisdom teeth removed.

However, Puig’s luck ran out a bit on Saturday as hamstring tightness resulted in hime being scratched from the lineup in the Dodgers’ afternoon affair against the Seattle Mariners, per Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

The tightness isn’t believed to be serious, however the Dodgers and Puig experienced first hand last season how tricky hamstring issues can be. The 25-year-old outfielder is batting .344/.351/.563 with one home run, four doubles, six RBIs, five strikeouts and two walks in 34 plate appearances over 13 games.

Other Dodgers currently dealing with minor injury include Yasmani Grandal (forearm soreness), Howie Kendrick (left calf tightness) and Corey Seager (left knee sprain). Seager is working his way toward a return, Kendrick is expected to miss the next couple of days, and Grandal appears to be a question mark for Opening Day.

I just read about Puig and oh well, it all makes you wonder about that great nutritous training table food they have. Not that it caused any of the injuries but it doesn't seem to be preventing much.

    not a nutritionist
but i don't think diet (per se) contributes to hamstring injuries
also not a doctor/trainer et al
but it seems like a lot of muscular guys have recurring hamstring problems
probably need to stretch more than the less sculpted guys

He has a good shot at making as a pitcher, Yimi got scratched too...

    http://m.mlb.com/news/article/169159962

Garcia threw a bullpen session on Saturday and reported no further soreness in the knee. If he comes out of the workout healthy, Garcia could return to game action Tuesday or Wednesday, but would be a week behind other Dodgers relievers.

Even so, with tough roster decisions looming involving the bullpen, Garcia's injury might put him on the disabled list for the start of the season.

These injuries are Mattingly's fault. He's probably doing some weird voodoo shit to get back at us.

I hate to say I told ya so, but....Puig will suffer with this hamstring bullshit for the rest of his career. Sad, but his legs are made for it.
Sooner or later, they are gonna have to go Dee Gordon with this guy...get whatever they can after he has an up period, if he has one that is noteworthy.

Meh, I think he will adapt. Change the way he plays to reduce the risk of re-injury

How is that? Does he start walking to first base? Start playing at 60 percent?

Serious question. How do you adjust for this?

I have no idea if this could actually be the case, but just from what I know in regards to musculature, he may have a muscle imbalance.

When the quads are very muscular and the hamstrings aren't quite on the same level, the hamstrings have to work harder during explosive movements making them much more susceptible to strains and tears.

Just a random thought on my end from a purely physical level. I wouldn't be surprised if this may be the issue, as I know many athletes/bodybuilders/etc that severely neglect hamstring training.
