It can happen, cause the Dodgers have Seager, Joc and Urias. Dodgers offer those 3 then wheneve he's available it's hard to say no.

The problem of course is that after those 3, the Dodgers farm system is too thin at the moment to survive something like that and have enough for depth and/or other moves. Or, it's too thin to entice Miami to only take 2 out of those 3 meanwhile taking other prospects.

The other way it could change is by finding a way to get good prospects in return for a current MLB player, like Dee or Kemp (Puig would be too close to a lateral move and Ethier and Crawford gets you like Chris Perez or something)

Also: Giancarlo probably isn't available Til next winter, truly feel that way. Maybe they tease him but they were in the playoff picture late into the year this year and that was without Fernandez. They're not necessarily a great team but I bet they believe that with Fernandez and some growth from their young players, and maybe a good winter, that they can at least compete and try to sneak into 2nd wild card

Got it. You want him to run into another fucking wall to prove he's playing hard.

It seems like Yasiel Puig would be the centerpiece of a Mike Stanton trade. Would that really be a lateral move? Stanton has more power and not quite as raw. Puig has incredible upside and one more year of arbitration (I think). Puig is from Cuba, so Miami would be home for him. Stanton is from California (his Twitter is @Giancarlo818). Almost makes too much sense.

Would I trade Puig for Stanton. Yes. No question. Would I trade Puig plus Seager and Urias. Fuck no

same thing i've been saying and with all these rumors about the Dodgers being angry with Puig getting leaked..it wouldn't surprise me if the team were tryin to turn the fanbase against Puig and prepare us for a Puig/Stanton swap. because let's face it..Puig is popular and a good amount of fans, even with Stanton coming back, wouldn't be happy about losing Puigmania. but it is what it is. Stanton is better. much better actually, so lateral move - i think not. and Puig is actually locked up until 2018 now on a great deal that Miami would value in a major way. i fully believe it's gonna happen because like you said at the end there..it makes too much sense. Puig, Zach Lee, and other lesser pieces probably get it done.

yea, not a chance. and to be frank..rather than move any combination of Pederson/Seager/Urias in general, i'd go ahead and build the offer around Puig ( who Miami's likely to prefer anyway) and other non-Pederson/Seager/Urias prospects. if it came down to it and i had to outbid the Cubs or Red Sox, that's when i'd be willing to add Pederson to the deal. i'd still shut it down on Urias/Seager.

you think Stanton has what it takes to move to CF? i know he has wheels and that he's not a natural there. not that i'm against giving Joc a shot next year, but we have to agree that he could still use some work and that a guy like Markakis could do us some good immediately in LF and at the top of our order with his plate discipline. i mean if they're gonna be dealing Crawford and Ethier anyway, what does it matter if they add another outfielder on the right deal if he's actually a better fit for what they need next year, right? it wouldn't be getting younger because Markakis is 31, but of course Pederson would still wait in the wings.

I know others have said it, especially in the Puig/Trade thread. Just seems like a more likely approach if the Dodgers go after Stanton. There's been too much emphasis on the farm system, so I don't see us giving up our best prospects for Stanton. As it is, for every new OFer we bring in, we need to get rid of 2.

i'm sure our front office would prefer to build a package around Pederson, but you just have to assume that Miami will request Puig's services 1st and foremost because of what you mentioned earlier and what he'd mean to that community. and if LAD decides to play hardball in negotiations, Miami will probably go to the Cubs or Red Sox and request one of their highly regarded Cuban OFers ( Soler, Cespedes or Castillo) and begin negotiating with those clubs instead. but Puig's the guy who's arguably the most exciting player in baseball and couple that with his lovely contract..Miami would make a killing in bringing Puig home so to speak and he'd make the biggest impact. so if and when Miami requests Puig, Dodgers don't even need to play hardball with Miami..they need to help Puig pack his shit and drive him to the airport. as a matter of fact..i believe Puig lives in Miami in the off-season, so no need to even drive him to the airport. but yea, because Puig would make the biggest impact in Miami, and Stanton would likely be angling to be a Dodger, LAD would likely be the favorites.

I don't see how they plan to cut payroll this year as I have read, when they already have $181M committed to 14 players, lets assume Haren exercises his option, that's $191M to 15 and Billingsleys buyout makes $194 to 15. Throw on top of that 7 arb eligible players, on the low-end they would cost $20M, so that's $214M.

they were at 235M this year.

but i think the real idea may be cut cost over the long haul. ship out some of these guys with 3 and 4 years left and get the right structure in place.

The problem is that a 1 for 1 swap is unlikely, and I can't see what the secondary piece could be. Puig's contract makes his valuable very different then most others.

What I mean I guess by lateral is that although it's always great to look for upgrades, why try to upgrade the one spot you are best in. Giancarlo vs. Puig favors Giancarlo on face but Puig has a better contract, age, and he's very good. I get the part about saying Puig has incredible upside, but that kinda perceives it as if he hasn't reached any of it. He's been one of the better players in MLB, behind Giancarlo but still very good. If he gets any better he's close to the best, with of course Giancarlo also having room to improve.

It could make sense to have like a 3 way deal. Trade Puig for some other players, include some of those players + our prospects for Giancarlo and essentially trading Puig + some prospects for Giancarlo + some prospects. That sounds confusing, but could be a way to figure this out with Puig.

But again, I mostly don't see anything happening with Giancarlo til next winter; although it might be dumb, they probably wanna try and compete next year and will see how that goes before doing their next big move.

if i'm Stanton, and i just watched Trout get a long term deal, i want my deal this winter and i won't be happy with Miami for making me wait another year.
