With Donnie Dum Dum and Russell Martin behind the plate? How about Loney-Goodson, Chin Lung Hu, and Milton Bradley. Let's just go completely backwards.

    :smh:

I'm not going to say ignorance, but you have an irrational hatred of certain players.

    Dan Haren exercised his option.

Out of qualified starters in the NL, Dan Haren had the 10th worst ERA and 11th worst FIP

He doesn't break your season but he does take up a spot every 5th day that could be upgraded

Thanks for these 2nd year options that kill us, Ned!

4.02 ERA isn't bad for a #5 starter. There are only 43 qualified starters. He is 34th out of them. Didn't expect much more from him than that.

Hey Zeus...really? You think Dan Haren is the problem? I will take exactly the same season from him next year as a 5th starter and smile graciously as I write the check for his salary. If he were a #2 or #3 then I might want to grumble, but a 5th starter??? That is pure gold in that spot. Go ahead, look around the league and find me another 5th starter that can match his numbers. The truth is that most teams have a 5th starter by committee.

He was excellent out of the bullpen for KC in 2013

    this is the thing
if he's #5, going against the other teams #5 he's okay
anything more than that and you're asking for problems
he's also near the top (as usual) in HR's allowed with 27
but if you get a decent #4 or better, haren is fine, servicable, acceptable, okay

One year of success followed by TJ surgery.

    Got it.

This is kinda my point. I don't think Haren is a shitty player but you gotta factor opportunity cost worth him. He's not bad in the perfect scenario where your #5 stays your #5. And if he does exactly what he did in 2014 then that's cool, but you're banking on an old dude not showing signs of getting older.

And although money isn't an issue for the Dodgers, this type of production is something you could be getting for cheaper OR have an upgrade from it for like 4-5 mil more then what you're paying him

Like I said, he's not gonna make or break anyone's season, and you obviously can't get 5 Kershaw/Greinkes but these types of marginal oversights is what fucked Ned before. He gives a lot of money for average dudes, didnt have or trust someone cheaper/younger to do that job, and gets stuck relying on him more then he should have at a point in the season

Actually I take back the money portion of it. 10 million for one year of Dan Haren is gonna look good after this winter

What's still bad is Wilson. But anyways yeah, hope Haren repeats 2014 and stays healthy. Logging innings from that slot is awesome

    totally agree
and the player's options are killers
almost rather he pay more for one year with team only options

That word "hate" again. I don't hate people other than players for the Giants, Donkeys, most sports commissioners and the McCourts.

The players that disappoint are the players I DISLIKE and I sure as hell would not want them back on my team.

The process is about moving forward. Gaining and not losing. When it comes to players, leave the past where it is.

It's unfortunate your standards and expectations are so low.

I honestly would rather have Russell + Erisbel. Especially since that would make it that much easier to sign a Lester or Sherzer.

And I honestly think Friedman feels the same

I think Martin is gonna be damn worse offensively then he was in 2014 but his defense makes him damn valuable

What we need isn't tradable, signable, DFAable, or anythingable.
I'm not saying don't make moves that are supposed to improve the team, but we won the fucking division with AJ and the worst BP in the cosmos, and as Vinny told us 794 times, the worst BA with bases loaded in the cosmos.
All that stuff, as true as it is, did not impact on the division results. If Stanton can hit a HR further than Puig, or Hanley gets signed again, or AJ gets better or replaced with Geena, it won't improve on what we did this season, division -wise. We were NLW champs...doesn't anyone count that?
It's the reverse of the Shakespeare thing....like for us, it should be: the fault lies not in ourselves, but in our stars".
