He does not want to go to a situation where he is jumping on the gravy train and has to sit in the caboose.
If Justin Turner was out and we needed him badly to be our starting 3B he might have come over.

I agree that it is weird. He supposedly speaks very fondly of the franchise and makes his home in LA. It sounds like he really enjoys the Rangers and wants to stay in the organization. Maybe he felt that he could not adapt to being a part time player or just plain did not want to be one. Beltre marches to the beat of his own drum, that's for sure.

I loved Adrian, too, like everyone else. Probably in my top five Bums of all time. Definitely the top ten.
But I wonder if one glorious series in which some player was MVP and/or a hitting/ fielding star is the "pedigree" you get from then on...I guess so.
What past triumphs insure escapes me somewhat...I mean every player hits the wall at some particular point, no matter what they did when, no matter who.
Not to mention, a whole bunch of players on LA right now have that same "pedigree"don't they? By virtue of last year's WS appearance ?
Don't see what the necessity to get a Beltre or Freese actually does.
    Rather have a solid reliever.

With rat McCourt around? I'd say Beltre made a great decision. Got the fuck out on the ground floor of the most embarrassing LAD era ever

guess its also possible that Adrian still holds hard feelings or bitterness
we all remember the steroid talk and if he felt it came from the Dodgers...

Cole Hamels has put up 2.4 WAR for the Cubs in 45 innings. His ERA with them is 1.00. Typical.

Can’t wait to lose to the Cubs in the NLCS and see 1,000 revisionist history articles about how we were dumb for not trading for him

Brandon Morrow is done for the season. Welp, it could have been an even shittier year.

In the end the nerds were right about him. Sure would have helped in the season but you need a guy you can count on and Morrow has weak marrow.
The way Dave used him last year i felt he was gonna be spent this year.
And when he gets taxed shit starts to break on him.

Who was Dave supposed to use?

Morrow is and was an injury waiting to happen.

Im not saying anything about how dave used him just that he used him in a way that would make me not want to resign him.
It was not a negative comment about dave but a positive comment about the nerds.
As in they brought him in to work him hard and get as much as they could from him if he played well and once they used him up they rightfully moved on.

That was brought up by a lot of folks in here that Dave worked him into the ground and some speculated that the FO had already decided not to bring him back. I felt that if they could manage his innings early, it could all work out. The Cubs in turn used him every chance they had, which ended up with Morrow finally breaking.

    great rant
and something most of us 35+ers (and even others) have all contemplated
should have won it all in '08 and possibly '09
    2013 too
even thought last year was finally our time
problem is we have too many niedenfuer/forster/broxton moments, and not enough yeager/guerrero/gibson ones
and as bad as that '88 team was in comparison to other ws teams....
they would have waxed the shit out of these fucken posers
that '88 team found a way to win and relished in being the underdog
this current team acts entitled and, conversely, finds ways to lose
i knew in '88 we were going to win... you could just feel it from gibby, bulldog, hatcher, all the way down
last year's team had a lot of that, and was why most of us thought we would win
this year's team seems soft, lazy, even disinterested
even if we somehow sneak into the post, think about it...
do you trust barnes or taylor in a clutch situation against a top reliever?
    what about grandal or dozier?
    even kemp, cody or muncy?
    i do not
hope i'm wrong, and i know the playoffs are a crapshoot... but i just don't see this group going far

Just watching Boxberger shit the bed down the stretch and I keep going back to scratching my head about who this FO could have realistically gotten for this pen where we aren't screaming at the top of our lungs about how shitty this FO was for making said move. Feels like every realiver that was moved in the offseason has been shitty this year. I know that there are a couple out there, but man this has been a bad year for relievers coming off of FA or trades.

True, but it doesn't excuse them for not doing any better than Axford (injury aside).

Yeah, wasn’t giving them a pass for the deadline, but the same kind of applies there. Not many guys moved at the deadline have been uber impressive since getting traded. The Familia move still pisses me off since the Mets made a shitty panic offer without going back to teams that had interest. Not saying the Dodgers were gonna get him, but he’s one of the few relievers moved at the deadline who has been impressive since being traded. Weird year for relievers.
