If the Dodgers could acquire one player at the deadline, who would you prefer?

  1. Machado

    43.5%
  2. Front line starter (degrom, thor, et al)

    56.5%

I don't think the word was wouldn't pull the trigger but couldn't pull it because of the luxury tax and that we couldn't find a taker for Matt to clear space.

But the reason you get under the tax this year is to go over it for Harper or Machado next year. It’s a worthwhile risk but if that doesn’t happen in hindsight you should’ve just signed Darvish.

Not going to blame MLB's system or rules. Not worried about any WS window closing. LAD's a young team with payroll flexibility around the corner, with pretty good farm depth behind it. They prove how strong they are when they just keep winning games with Kershaw on the DL for extended periods every year. They're pretty much in 90's/Braves cruise control-mode at this point. Maddux, Glavine and the Braves' other best players used to bitch up in October and kill the Braves' title hopes annually and now our best players do the same to LAD. They just have to break the cycle.

Its just time for them to man up and play their best when it counts the most. Young teams are winning WS titles..less talented teams are winning WS titles..wild card teams are winning WS titles..old ass Jamie Moyer helped pitch a team to a WS win. So whether LAD is the top team or coming from the wild card spot, players just have to get the job done in the post. I blame the players for playing like shit and even allowing the WS to go 7 games.

I wouldn't be so upset about it if bitch ass franchises really spent the money instead of hoarding it penalizing clubs that want to compete.

Marlins are the usual offenders . There has to penalties for tanking it before a season starts...

I don't have the numbers but I know that there will be alot of money coming off the books next year so we will probably have enough to sign Harper or another player without going over. To the 1st point the whole goal of the FO was to reset the penalty and save money why would they sign Yu to be right back in the same place. Would make little sense.

Fail to reset the repeater penalty in order to sign Darvish?
How about just making a trade at the deadline for an Archer instead..while resetting the penalty and going after Harper or Machado next off-season?
Why is this season do or die when most of our core is young?

I get what your saying but nickel and diming on certain players tend to bite us later

Yeah, from what I gather they should be able to stay under the tax line next off-season.
Especially if Kershaw comes down on his number..which he should do because he's just not as good anymore, his mileage is up, and all the injury concerns/choking in the post.
He took less money before, he should take less again

The problem was it wasn’t a nickel or a dime we’re talking about.

That deal is pretty large and for many years longer than I would have felt comfortable with Yu.

But they have already set the roads we're going to take this season. We will find out were it will lead us for sure.

    Hopefully not this...

I would launch Kershaw into a tree myself if he could pitch like Bumgarner in the post season

Now, that's the sort of " do or die " I can understand..
I would gladly sacrifice the rest of Kershaw's career for him to pitch us to 1 WS title ala Bumgarner
We'd be fine without him afterwards

Kershaw is not taking less. Everyone knows teams have been saving their fire for 2019, and Kershaw wouldn’t opt out if he didn’t think he could get more.

No one will be taking less next year.

If Kershaw doesn't take less he should finish his career elsewhere

He might if we lowball him. And if we weren't certain Kershaw would take less and stay, we should have signed Darvish. I'm pretty sure the FO is focused on keeping Kershaw.

Second best case scenario is he does not opt out.
