If the Dodgers could acquire one player at the deadline, who would you prefer?

  1. Machado

    43.5%
  2. Front line starter (degrom, thor, et al)

    56.5%

Alexander has looked different in a good way since coming back. Getting him right would be a big boost to the pen as his stuff rates in the upper tier of relievers when he is on. Sounds like Koehler is not far from coming back as well. I fully agree that a SP is probably what this team needs. They are riding Stripling for now, but that bubble will burst and ideally this team could find a way to get Maeda back into the pen. Not only does that strengthen the bullpen, but also has potential to save the club a shit ton of money this year, opening up more trade options. Would love to see Kershaw, Trade Pickup, Wood, Buehler, Hill. Plus getting Stripling and Maeda in a pen with Jansen and an improving Alexander for much stronger back end. That is going to take a lot of luck and good fortune though...

I doubt Maeda goes back to the pen, though it would be better as he is way to inconsistent this year as as starter. We all know that Behuler is on an innings limit so hopefully Urias is back when MGT shuts Behuler down. It would be nice to see some of the rookie depth be tested out like White or Santana.

I think Maeda should stay in the rotation all year. He has one of the highest floors of any of our starters, and is capable of being a solid #2, great #3. He also showed he can easily transition to a reliever if need be.

I’m pessimsitic on Brock Stewart as a starter but think he deserves at least like 4 consecutive starts.

i'm not overly-optimistic on either starting tbh
    personally i would consider kersh a #1, buehler a #2+, everyone else fringe #3-4's
and as fsu has alluded, our pen would have a lot better results if said starters could have gone deeper into games more consistently
    idk, just fucken frustrating

Wood has good peripherals and has shown pretty damn good command this year, but I feel that is lack of velocity will eventually catch up with him when the command inevitably fluctuates later in the year. Otherwise, he's a good number 2. Showed some damn balls in the post, too.

when he’s good he can be very good
but he (like others) doesn’t go deep often enough
and i feel the same about his lack of velocity

    - Royals have started to reach out to teams to let them know that they are going to be opening the doors for trades here soon. Kelvin Herrera is a name to watch as the Dodgers have been linked to the closer already in the early going.

    - Teams continue to kick the tires on Manny Machado with no sign that the Orioles will trade their star SS.

    - Sounds like Andrew Toles is doing well in his recovery after an early setback.

    - UPDATE: Edwin Rios is back and has finally joined the OKC Dodgers.

LAD trending towards being a buyer at the deadline, I don't know whether to be happy or sad Lol
To go out and use specs to buy Machado, Herrera, etc. and do all that work just to have Kershaw and Kenley choke again :whyme:

What are the rules for resetting the luxury tax again? Does the team have to maintain a payroll less than $197M for the entire season, or just at the start or at least up to the trade deadline not including additions made via trade on the deadline?

If they have to maintain the $197 throughout the whole season, I don’t see how we become net buyers by the trade deadline.....not unless we unload salary in the process.

You have to stay under the $197 all season. The contracts of the players you acquire are prorated, so Machado would be owed just 8 million of his 16 million by the Dodgers if they got him halfway through the season. Still a tight squeeze though because they need to add more than one guy.

I think this is the huge opportunity the Dodgers have been waiting for and why they saved a little bit of a salary tax window for trade deadline deals.
They need to get both Kelvin Herrera and Mike Moustakas in order to replace the loss of Corey Seager from the lineup and Brandon Morrow from the pen.
Pedro Baez, Edwin Rios, Max Muncy, Christian Santana, and Logan Forsythe can go to the Royals with Rios as the big get and Baez and Muncy and Santana as something they can use. Forsythe would go to sort of balance the tax implications a bit.

That is two big time additions to the the team. Everyone (almost) else on the team is starting to get their shit together.
Instead of singing Bryce you sign Manny who will be significantly cheaper. Resigning all key FA including new ones like Moustakas and Herrera. Moustakas could get a contract similar to what Turner got. Herrera should get the kind of deal we should have given Morrow.
The lineup becomes solid from top to bottom and the bullpen too.

    2B: Seager
    SS: Machado
    3B: Turner
    LF: Kemp
    CF: Bellinger
    1B: Moustakas
    RF: Puig
    C : Grandal
    DH: Taylor

That is a murderous long snake of a lineup. For now swap Kike for Seager and Taylor for Machado and its still real good.

Just saw that. Something bad must have happened to DFA a guy with that much money owed to him for one bad month.
