lol, whenever someone says they're not trying to make an excuse... that's exactly what they're doing

    DOZIER:
“It’s been a constant struggle to fire into my front side,” he said of the limitations caused by his knee pain. “It gets irritating. But that’s just the way it is and you find ways around it. Firing into my front side is the way my swing works, creating power and leverage and space and all that kind of stuff. The thing now is to keep firing into the front side so that I pull my weight into it as I make that transition. But that’s by no means trying to make an excuse. It feels great right now. You just develop bad habits in your swing when stuff like that happens. You try to find ways around it. I’ve never made excuses I just try to go out there and play.”

Well excuse or not, if I'm reading it right, he's also saying this is a thing of the past. So he has 9 games to show that he can hit like the team expected him to when the made the trade. Otherwise, he shouldn't even be on the playoff roster, let alone be the starting second baseman (assuming we get there).

Sources are saying #Dodgers[IMG] will likely offer Kershaw an extension in lieu of him opting out and re-negotiating on the open market but the chances of re-signing Machado are not good

Does this mean the FO will go after Bryce? Or are they looking for “value” again.

I do think it will impact what they look at for 2B in terms of long term. The reviews on him are incredibly good and the outlook has turned into that of an all star middle infielder. I could see him getting a similar timetable as Seager did his last year in the minors. He should start the year in AA and if he continues to crush, he gets a May-June promotion to AAA. Let him work on things there and get close to finishing out the season. If he puts up anything close to what he did this year, he gets the Sept call with the shot to take 2B over. It is interesting, I remember reading someone last year that said he and some other scouts felt that Lux was Seager 2.0. Even after his struggles, there was feeling that he was going to come out of it all the better(I personally did not see this coming). Fingers crossed this kid keeps it going cause him pairing hopefully with a healthy Seager and a past his sophomore slump Bellinger, would be the makings of a killer core IF.

Comerica Park worker fired after video shows him spitting on pizza
ESPN | Associated Press — 94 minutes ago

DETROIT -- A food service worker at Comerica Park in Detroit has been fired after a video was posted online allegedly showing him spitting on a pizza.

WXYZ-TV reports the video was visible on Instagram over the weekend and shows an employee spitting on the pizza intended for customers. WWJ-AM reports officials at the home of the Detroit Tigers determined the video was recorded Friday, when the team hosted the Kansas City Royals.

Detroit Sportservice, which provides food service at the ballpark, said in a statement that it "immediately closed that food stand and disposed of all the product." It says food safety is the "top priority" and that it will take any appropriate action to protect guests.

Detroit police officer Dan Donakowski told The Associated Press on Monday that the 20-year-old was taken into custody Sunday, two days after security officials at the ballpark reported the incident.

Spokeswoman Maria Miller said Monday that the Wayne County prosecutor's office is reviewing possible charges against the man.

I guess the Rockies should be commended. They actually have a positive run differential now.

Does Ryu get a QO? If he would take 1 year at ~$18M, it might be worth it, he has been down right filthy, and if turns down to go elsewhere you get an extra pick & pool money.

100% gets one. He probably needs to be back next year unless it cuts into Machado’s money.

I mentioned this the other day that both Ryu and Grandal absolutely should get QO's. Honestly when the worst that can happen is they accept is a damn good problem to have. Ryu buys more development time for some of the young pitchers(Urias most importantly) in the system and Grandal would close the bridge year they need to get to Smith(or Ruiz if Smith's stint in AAA was a sign of things to come). Both have been worth more than $18M this season based on $ per WAR, so do it. Grandal is the best all around catcher on the market so he is probably getting a contract in the neighborhood of 4yrs $60-80M. I don't think Ryu gets a huge contact due to his injury history, but he is a Boras client and those guys tend to decline the QO. If both decline, I'll take 2 extra draft picks(3 if Kershaw opts out and leaves) plus the extra 1st rounder we will have from the last draft with our scouting department. That is the kind of ammo you need that could really help catapult a Top 10 farm system back into the top 5. I'll run with either scenario or a mix and match.

So somebody commented that the Rockies play PHI for four and somehow avoid Nola. They also won't see Scherzer in their final series, and missed Ray in the series before. Some baseball god is definitely smiling down on them.

It will be interesting to watch the Giants situation play out. I have a hard time seeing the Dodgers FO get pilfered again this offseason, but who knows. The Giants are one of those orgs that always seem to look within, so I would not be surprised if they go that route again. They are talking about how they are looking to venture more into the new analytical side of things, but probably not dive head first into it.

Personal feeling is this, if they sign a GM from within, then the plan is to tinker here and there and hope to catch lightning in a bottle with the last couple of years they have these guys under contract and do something similar to the Dodgers internal rebuild(spend big and compete until contracts run out). If they sign a GM from outside the org, then we should expect a top to bottom tear down. They are looking at a close to $150M cap hit in just returning players(I think, my math could be way off) and a lot of those guys are dead weight at this point or pricey for performance. It is funny, their roster is built with guys who are being paid pretty much on par with $ per WAR, but nobody is blowing that number out of the water and some very expensive players are shitting all over themselves. You can't win solely on $ per WAR, you need at least a few overperformers, but the Giants don't have that due to their barren farm system. It will be interesting to see if they ship some of these guys out and tac on some dough to try and get some prospect depth or if they continue to ride this wave out.

Even if Kershaw and Ryu left, they have 5 capable starters for 2019, obviously you don't want to go in with just 5 and I fully expect they will extend Kershaw, but it's an option.
