Well the one light at the end of the tunnel is if there are ALWAYS provocative leaks that the Dodgers are "Interested", but they never do anything but dumpster dive, at some point the wolf crying will stop. So at the very least, we won't have to roll our eyes reading so much utter bullshit all winter!

Second largest market in the country with the most money and all we are is fucking PlayDoh for agents to lever other teams with? Just pisses me off!

    Some great updates from today.
    • Bowden was on this morning with Jim Duquette. They were talking about Harper and interested teams... the Dodgers are completely out on Harper. He has long term offers and the Dodgers were sticking to a high AAV short term deal, but have since reportedly walked away from negotiations.
    • JD said that he heard there was talk between the Dodgers and Yankees earlier in the offseason about Stanton... sounds like the Yankees called the Dodgers to gauge their interest in acquiring him. The Dodgers told them that they had no interest and that was it for talks. This could have been around the time the Yanks were interested in Harper, thinking they had an out... but they didn't.
    • It also sounds like the club is out on AJ Pollock. They did not elaborate a whole lot, but it sounds like there may be a team offering him more years than the Dodgers are willing to offer.
    • Joe Frisario(sp?) was on and he said that he hears that the sticking point in Realmuto trade talks was not Bellinger as the Marlins finally clued it that that would never happen. It sounds like they had agreed on Verdugo being one piece, but the secondary pieces was where the problems arose. He said he was never given any indication on who it was and that the Marlins actually like Verdugo a lot, but that the Marlins were asking for other top prospects that the FO was unwilling to move. They finally hit an impasse this week and the Dodgers promptly announced the Martin deal.
    • At this point, from what they are hearing, the Dodgers are probably going into the season pretty close to as currently constructed and add when they need to at the deadline since they were able to keep some heavy prospect capital. They seem like a fit for Marwin Gonzalez, but they hear the Dodgers haven't kicked the tires on him at all, which is fine with me. He has had one good season and whole lot of meh one's every other year.
    • The White Sox have reportedly offered Machado an 8 yr 250M contract. They’re presumed as the front runners. Nightengale says they have not surpassed 7 years... so probably a 13 year contract.
Bowden brought up an interesting take on all of the "Team X called Team Y about Player Z's availability". He said that a GM will talk to every other GM in the league once a week about potential trades. He said that there are always guys trying to work a deal out for your superstar that has no chance of happening. Usually the rumors you hear in the news are for a reason, like a GM is gauging the market, another GM is trying to jab an agent to ask for a trade to said team, etc... So to take these rumors with a GIANT grain of salt. It is fun/depressing to report/see these rumors, but as social media has become more and more mainstream and being “first” with the deets is more important than being correct, the most unlikely of deals to happen are still getting reported as tangible talks.

Sounds like the Yankees explored it, but the Dodgers want no part of his contract.

“You guys should spend 5% of your yearly income on our season tickets, but we won’t spend .0001% of our net worth on a luxury tax to drastically improve the team” is pretty fascinating conceptually

The Dodgers are taking advantage of our loyalty and it will backfire. They will only have die hards left in 10-15 years. Casual fans will no longer exist. Their TV contract disaster will eventually turn them into a niche product. They aren't on in bars/restaurants and they cant be discovered by channel surfers. The die hard, season ticket holders, blog nerds, mlb.tv with VPN, forum fans will eventually revolt and the team will be nothing. They already lost my dollar last year. I attended 15 games less than I normally do and I'm about ready to ditch Rectum Cable and just use streams. The Dodgers get the money from Rectum regardless, but there's still consequences when people stop purchasing the product.

They'll rationalize this by saying they don't want to mortgage the future and they need to spend wisely. It is all bullshit

This team looks incredibly boring and is nowhere near as good as the top dogs in the AL.

We signed Joe Kelly though! A guy that was getting lit up in the regular season but had dominant performances against a weak ass Dodger lineup that had a hard time hitting anyone with a pulse. One of the only guys that could do anything with the bat got shipped off to the Reds so we could pursue Bryc......just kidding.

Maybe they can lose a third WS in a row and this time it'll be a sweep. But I doubt they'll get to face another weak ass NL field where guys like Chacin and Wade Miley are top of the rotation pitchers.

I honestly have no clue what the plan is for the FO. You can't build through the farm if every offseason you ignore viable improvements through free agency as well since you'll be breaking up the farm every year at the trade deadline. We keep saying "well next offseason....". I have news for you, they are not going after Arenado either next year even with $90M more coming off the books. They have their current 3B and they have their future 3B already under control. Arenado is gonna want a 10+ year deal and unless he gets hurt or falls off a cliff, he will get that contract and probably from an AL team. I no longer think this FO will ever go out and give a big long term contract to anyone (at least outside the org).

Not that it matters a whole lot, BA had a piece about the Dodgers new hitting department. Basically it explains how the club is trying to get away from the trend of rising strikeouts in the game and plan to attack this at all levels. Also look more to org players using the whole field with the shift becoming so prominent. I know the new hitting coach decision got a lot negative publicity, but I have been seeing from certain players that think the Dodgers got a coach that could really positively impact the system. In relation to the topic, Bowden was talking about the growing platoon problems in the game and said the Dodgers are going to begin to play MiLB guys against same handed players as much as possible instead of maybe giving them the day off.

Yeah. The “wait till next offseason” made sense for the past two seasons given that Harper and Machado were coming up in this one. If they don’t have real interest in those guys, it wasn’t “wait till next offseason” at all, it was “we’re cheap and can use Harper as a justification for two years”

I personally feel it will be Seager, especially if Lux continues to improve. I think his injuries are probably going to push him off of SS sooner than later, though they still have 2 more years of Turner. I also would not be surprised if the club continues to retain Turner on short term deals. He reportedly turned down larger money elsewhere to remain in LA and I could see him wanting to stay any way he can. He’s a SoCal guy and grew up a Dodgers fan. Obviously other things could come up, but I see Turner at 3B until Seager slides over.

I have heard that narrative on Seager since he was brought up but wasn't it reported that he never liked that idea of moving to 3b? He is still young I think they will convert one of Seager/Lux to 2b and keep the two in the middle. I agree that to keep Turner in the line up for longer he needs to move to 1b, which would require us to have a 3b ready....which IMO could be Arenado. I know Bellinger is a 1b but I could see MGT telling him, hey you are now our permanent CF.
