Joc Pederson would get the Dodgers the reliever they need.

Also probably the hitter I trust most in the playoffs against a RHP

But do you want Joc being the guy you can trust the most against RHP in the playoffs?

If I wasn't so sure it would trigger my PTSD, I'd post some highlights for you to consider.

You guys think we could get both Vasquez and Smith?

Baez and Urias are the only two guys in our current pen who I trust. I don't think one elite reliever will have enough of an impact. Need two.

I don’t think we’ll get either. I’m skeptical that the Pirates will trade Vasquez and also skeptical we’d make a trade with the Giants. Think we’ll have to look at someone from the Blue jays, reds, orioles, marlins, or white Sox

I don't see the Pirates competing until MAYBE the last year of his contract, and they could get a huge haul for him. The Pirates have proven repeatedly they can replace high leverage relievers with ones that are just as good if not better.
If I were a Pirates fan, I'd be irritated if they hold onto him just so he can pitch for an 80 win team for 3 years.

I think the Giants would be willing to make a deal. Up to Friedman to grow a sack.

I agree I think the Pirates should trade him but they seem to prefer holding on to players for long time, they signed him to a nice deal and he probably wants to stay, and Rosenthal mentioned that he doesn’t think Vasquez will get traded.

Well, if it's true that virtually every pitcher we want is not attainable then we should be terrified. That means Caleb Ferguson. That means Scott Alexander. In the playoffs. I could see us getting bounced well before the WS in that scenario. Not to mention Floro, Kelly, and even Kenley.

Well, the sad reality is that there are probably obtainable pitchers that are too shitty to make our "want" list, yet would still probably upgrade our pathetic pen.

I think a guy like Shane Greene is probably in the cards for a reasonable price and could allow for the team to get him without too much prospect colateral. Doolittle was probably another option until the Nats decided to turn things around. All these second wild card teams and no dual deadlines is going to muddle the market up and make the pickings slim. Not moving on Kimbrel is likely to come back and bite us in the ass.

Casey Sadler (??) replaces him on the 40 man roster.

sucks about Hill. He was doing great and although it's not surprising given his age, the injury still sucks. I still would trust him as a #4 starter in the playoffs though
