Just looking at his records again, I don't even know if Verdugo's really an everyday player, so team control could be almost everything for him. Never done anything past July and really has only performed well in July a couple times since turning pro. He's being mentioned with Lux, but Lux has put together 3 straight strong campaigns in August on his way to the show..wide gap between these 2 players in my estimation. Either you're a guy that can hold it together for 150 games or you're just not.

Certainly do hope it turns around for Verdugo, especially if he's going to be with LAD, but hard to mention him with any certainty moving forward..I'd just as soon pencil in Toles, whatever island he's hiding out on.

Last anyone saw of Toles was his picture on the side of a milk carton.

Seriously, if he was like a .700 OPS guy against LHP'ing where he just even occasionally ran into one, he'd be so much more valuable. His AB's against LH's is just so fucking putrid that it looks like he doesn't even really give a shit. Not sure how this dude hasn't spent a winter just sitting in a cage watching LHP'ing all day.

That bagging gig worked out all right for Kurt Warner.

In the playoffs he has had some big home runs on lefties.
And he can take lots of walks if he wants to go cpnservative against them.
During the season he hacks away trying to just put wood in it.

Let's not get outta whack here. Joc had a tremendous 2017 (1.186 OPS, 3 HR in 11 games) no doubt and an ok 2016 (.714 OPS, 1 HR in 11 games), but outside of the one year he has not exactly been a world beater in the playoffs. Last year he struggled(.647 OPS, 2 HR in 16 games) and in 15 he was useless(.500 OPS from 4 BB's in 5 games). His AB's against lefties are bad as most of the time he is just trying to work the walk on them and takes defensive hacks. His sheer inability to handle lefties has always made the playoffs a struggle as getting in a groove is hard since teams liked to load lefties against us. That should finally change with Seager, Bellinger and Muncy all turning things around against them and Pollock has been fucking murdering them as well, so we probably won't see teams trying their shenanigans like years past when really only one position should be impacted by such moves. Unlike years past this team is much more dangerous against lefties 1-8 and on the bench than in years past. The only real platoon red flags are Hernandez and Pederson, with one of those guys regularly running into one against same handed pitchers. Also, no Joc has not hit a HR in the post season vs a lefty. He has hit 3 HR's total against lefties since the start of 2016.

D'Backs and now the Phillies have been eliminated from playoff contention. Cards have clinched a PO berth, but have not claimed the division yet. Mets magic number is 2 and the Cubs are at 3 for getting knocked off.

I guess when your golden children like Seager, Bellinger, Kershaw, Kenley, etc. all look like shit in the post, the highlight reel moments of Joc seems more spectacular than it is.

To add to your point about letting Joc go, he also causes problems when we must burn players early in the game if there is an opener.

Yeah, but Kurt never went back. Don't know what Toles is doing these days. Read something a while back that said his car was still sitting in the parking lot at the stadium collecting major dust. He must really be going through it.

The day you're riding through downtown and hobo Toles is looking to wash your windshield :eek:

All facts. But here's the problem..Joc is going to land us what in return that can help LAD in the fall next year? Because of the negatives mentioned, his value can't be much more than Puig's, and yeah, the return for Puig worked out for the farm, but we're not getting anything from it for the big club in the fall. Now, Puig is/was a jackass, so it was just time and he wanted out too..further cementing his jackassery, but that's not Joc. And though Joc hasn't consistently been a positive force in the postseason, he's definitely done more in the fall than Verdugo has ever done on any level..Pollock, as well.

Despicable against LHP, monster slumps in general during the season, and little team control..Joc is faulty. There's going to be like 2, maybe 3 teams interested in Joc and I wouldn't expect a bidding war. Being that he's accomplished some things in the postseason, teams that aren't realistically vying for the postseason may not even apply with his team control being an issue. Cincy came out of nowhere for Puig, but yeah, again..we don't see any of those benefits for the immediate/ultimate goal of being WS champs. That's my thing here. Because I'm well aware that this FO is terrible in free agency, but pretty solid in trades..so I'm hoping they can actually land something that can help in the fall this time using one of these OF chips. If not..just leave Joc the hell alone, so he can potentially help us in the fall.

Also have a hard time penciling in Pollock for anything at all. And I mean anything at all..not even an AB in April. This is one of most injury prone guys, hell, maybe ever. Same way I question whether or not Verdugo is an everyday player, goes for Pollock as well, but with 10x the pessimism. Can't pencil either one in with any confidence. So Joc being a liability is all facts..just like reliability is non-existent with Verdugo/Pollock. One thing is certain..at the end of the day, we can thank Guggs for these faulty options. We should be penciling in Harper.

You got me on one fact.
I had a feeling I was reaching on that one.
I still think Joc is a huge threat.
Even when they take him out the game by stacking lefties it becomes a boon for our team now stacked with Lefty killers.

Yup, Joc doesn’t have much trade value cause even though I think he’s a good and useful player, teams don’t want to trade for a corner outfielder. I think he’s great on our team. 70% of the time he’s a very good hitter and you can easily pencil in a guy for the other 30%. I’d rather have that than an injury prone guy where you don’t know when you’ll need the bench guy to come in. It’s easier to find a lefty masher than the other way around and he has good moments in the playoffs because he seems to do well against elite velocity. He’s more valuable to the team than anything any team would give us for him IMO

That's all I'm sayin. I don't know what Verdugo's trade value will be, but we can't pencil him in to help us in the fall like we can with Joc. They'd better be very careful about how they proceed this offseason

Facing the Cardinals in round 1 sounds like a nightmare to me.

I will never not fear those mother fuckers.

If we end up facing the Cards, a shit ton would have had to have worked out in our favor. They're easily the worst team in the NL hunt right now.
