Morning Rumors from around the league
    • The Mariners and Padres are said to have had discussions of a deal that would send Jean Segura and Mike Leake for Wil Myers. It is not said to be close and presumption is that the Padres leaked (no pun intended) this deal to generate interest in Wil Myers who is now blocked after the horrendous Eric Hosmer deal last year and by the fact that Myers is fucking garbage everywhere else in the field. There would need to be a lot more to the deal as salaries don't match up well, including both Leake and Segura waiving no-trade clauses. There is some feeling that the Padres are about to have another one of those "Go for it!" offseasons that could greatly disrupt the market.
    • The Mariners are said to have a few different irons in the fire when it comes to deals for Segura and that he has generated plenty of interest.
    • The Mets are said to be considering deals from up to 6 teams that have presented intriguing offers for RHP Noah Syndergaard. Would guess if the Dodgers are interested in Kluber and Carrasco, they would also be in on Thor. The Mets would be willing to move the big right hander if they were able to fill multiple other spots on the roster as they are in a win now scenario. The Dodgers are one of the best suited orgs in baseball to put together a volume deal, but there is still some gap of higher echelon talent that is MLB ready in the org if the Mets are expecting a mix of MLB regulars AND a star prospect or two. Syndergaard's recent injury could impact the return, but at the same time someone could get desperate.
    • I think that this has been totally whiffed here and has been pretty quiet on the web in general, but Japanese LHP Yusei Kikuchi was posted at the beginning of the month. There was talk he would be, but never really saw the confirmation that he had been. Sometimes these guys can hold up the pitching market somewhat if teams are in negotiations with him. He has another 2 weeks to come to an agreement.

Selling high on Muncy would be interesting if they (the Indians in this case) think he can play a serviceable 1B, and maybe transition to a DH as "Eddie want a cracker" only has 1 guaranteed year left on his deal.

Yeah I mentioned the Indians, but I forgot that they already have both 1B and DH kinda sewn up with EE and Yonder Alonso, though both can be FA's after next season. Muncy would be a cheaper (and potentially considerably better) alternative to the two, but would mean that they would need to find a taker for either one of those guys elsewhere. Really hard to gauge the value that Muncy has after the CJ Cron thing yesterday. Didn't have nearly the year that Muncy had, but he was still pretty decent.

Dodgers trade Tim Locastro to the Yankees for RHP Drew Finley. Finley has stayed in LowA the last 3 seasons. Has seen K rate go up every year, but so has his walk rate, HR rate and ERA. Would guess that the org is intrigued by his ability to strike guys out. Seems like a pretty mediocre return for a guy that is potentially going to be on a big league roster this year, but these types of trades usually are about upside over present ability.

Think this was more of a no room on the 40 man move

Noah Syndergaard could be available. I'd trade all the specs for him honestly. Verdugo can be gone, May can be gone, Rios can be gone, Smith can be gone, he'd be worth it.

Makes sense. And a cheap AL team like Cleveland that still wants to compete is bound to value Muncy. We did sort of talk about this before the postseason started, IIRC. LAD definitely has enough MLB level/MLB ready depth to pull from in order to get a trade done

That Segura/Dee fight was wild. So I guess the M's are picking Dee over Segura

They would like Joc and Taylor plus Verdugo and maybe Woods or Strip.
    Do it!

Buster Olney hiding behind that dumb ESPN paywall is saying that teams are moving on from Realmuto. The Marlins are said to be asking for comically overpriced returns and not budging off of them. It’s why the Nats pivoted so quickly to Suzuki and now interest in Yan Gomes has escalated. GM’s are getting the impression that the Marlins have no real interest in actually moving Realmuto unless someone offers something stupid.... REALLY stupid.

and the Cardinals... and the Yankees. Amazing how the Dodgers were said to have come in second for all three of their guys, yet a year later were the ones to offer the best packages for each of their players. It’s one thing to bitch about our FO coming in second on deals and another to realize that maybe it’s not our FO that are the ones making the dumb fucking mistakes.

I don't blame MIA for asking for the moon. The open market for catchers is trash and the position has taken a hit in general. And none of that is changing anytime soon, so they can sit back and just wait for thirsty bitches

They got essentially nothing for Ozuna, Dee, Stanton and Yelich so they’re probably trying to make good on that too.

Just wait until they trade him for next to nothing too. Marlins are a trash organization right now and will probly gift him to someone like the Giants for some third string 2B in the minors.
