Rosenthal's morning piece had the Dodgers as a focal point, but it was mostly speculation with little to no substance. Here are some notes from that and other things going on:
    • The Dodgers are supposedly ready to go into the season with Barnes being their primary catcher and that is the way they have approached this offseason. The club feels that last year was more than likely a blip and he should be something in between what he was last year and the season before(which would more in line with projections). They feel the prices for marginal upgrades were not worth it and that they viewed Gomes as more of a split time option, not true starter. They are looking for reasonably priced back up options to him or a clear cut upgrade at the position and they feel that there is only one guy like that on the market(J.T. Realmuto). They are pursuing Realmuto strongly as they consider him a major upgrade and potentially worth dealing some of their catching depth over, otherwise they are willing to take a shot with Barnes this year and feel confident that they have a star on the way at catcher from the farm. Does make sense if they feel that the Gomes re-emergence was more of a blip than the usual. Don't forget, though Barnes was a mess at the plate last year, he was still regarded as one of the best defensive catchers in the league and that is not something to sneeze at when the position as a whole is so down.
    • He mentions that the Dodgers have way too much veteran depth at multiple fronts now and the club can't conceivably go into the season as built. Starting pitching alone is going to cause problems with 11 guys on the roster that started a game for the big club in the last two seasons(he didn't count Stewart, I am since the org fucked him up, but he seems to have righted the ship). They also have White, Gonsolin and May on the horizon. He thinks something big is coming, potentially two big deals since there is just so much there to work with.
    • The new report over the weekend was that the Mets have now entered the sweepstakes for Corey Kluber. The plan would be to move Syndergaard and use the prospect capital to land Kluber. This should be a GIANT red flag to anyone that has interest in the Mets co-ace.
    • Anthony Castrovince who covers the tribe thinks that it is only a matter of time before the Dodgers and Indians come together for a deal. The Dodgers have too much of what the Indians need to continue to be forces in the AL Central. The Mets rumored interest doesn't seem to be enough as they will likely need the Indians to take back salary and potentially lesser players for one of their front line starters(something the Indians do not want to do). He thinks that Verdugo will be the centerpiece for either Bauer or Kluber, though that seems less likely to me with Gomes no longer a part of the deal.
    • The Rockies have been said to be kicking the tires on every big name out there to capitalize on their big season and a likely weaker division, but they have been coming nowhere close with actually matching up.
    • It sounds like the Giants are already pulling Madison Bumgarner off the market. The packages that they were hearing early were nothing that they were interested in. His name will likely be floated again around the trade deadline.
    • It sounds like another division superstar may also be close to getting pulled from the market. Paul Goldschmidt is too not drawing much suitable interest for the D'Backs to be willing to move him. The Astros are said to be the only team really pursuing him and the D'Backs may choose to hold onto him and move him at the deadline if they have to.
    • The Mariners fire sale is expected to move onto Kyle Seager next. He is coming off of a down couple of years, but not far removed from being a legit stud. They still have high salary guys Jay Bruce, Carlos Santana, Dee Gordon and Mike Leake whom they all are likely to try and trade.
    • LOL, Trevor Bauer got his finger stuck in a drone blade again. I swear, if we trade for this guy....

Ehh whatever, his players like playing for him which is good and they weren't winning anything this year anyway. Him being a lame duck manager would have been way worse and with our teams shitty media coverage, I could have seen this season being a catastrophe. Get him the right pieces and hopefully he can learn from his fucking mistakes. He made some better decisions this year over last, but got fucked by whole new ones that were enhanced by some truly epic failures by the players.

I'd pay good money to watch a Backstage Dodgers episode with Greinke and Baur on a road trip together

Corbin is said to be close to signing. My personal opinion, dude is gonna fall well short of earning his contract and settles more into the role as a 3-4 pitcher next season instead of the 1-2 the media is portraying him as. He feasted on us(.77 ERA in 4 starts) and the Giants(2.27 in 6) last year which counts towards nearly 1/3rd of his starts. 3 of his dominating starts against us came early in the season prior to the club acquiring the bats needed to better combat LHP'ing. While the Dodgers didn't do any damage to him in his one start after the deadline, they made him work considerably harder to get through 5 than they did at any point prior. So he dominated two teams that couldn't hit LHP'ing last year and was merely good beyond that. I could see him getting crushed in the AL East if he does end up going to the Yankees.

    totally agree bro
could easily be barry zito 2.0
especially under the bright ny lights
i don't believe he's suddenly discovered the proverbial "it"
he just had his career year at the right time
lots of journeymen type starters dominated or offense last year so i'm with you
    good mid-back end starter

Nobody at this point that wouldn't elicit a response of either "ew" or "he's just an FO pawn!"

So the deal for Segura was basically just a fucking salary dump, which makes little to no sense since he is coming off another solid season at a valuable position. With the fight this season and now this being his 5th team in his career, I wonder if the dude has a little baggage that folks outside of the clubhouse just aren't really aware of. He made a lot of sense for the Dodgers as a 2B option, so I would not be shocked if this was the case.

Going to be interesting to watch this whole tear down continue as the Mariners have also added pieces in these deals that they should be able to flip.

Segura and Dee had a big fight in the clubhouse. I remember that much and not much else afterwards..other than their season as a team going to hell
