so now the angels are "working" to acquire Joc?
couldn't we have sent him and strip to someone else besides the "LA" angels?

That AL West is gonna be a bloodbath and neither Strip or Joc is putting the Angels over the top. Depending on what they’re getting back, it was probably their best option, but the more I read about Rengifo, the more I think the Dodgers may have gotten a solid deal.

That's OK. They never think about us, either.

Beaty, Rios, Hernandez, Taylor, Barnes and Rengifo. Someone is going to have to go and I don't think they would send Rios back to AAA either. Rengifo could go down, but that still gives us 13 and the belief is that most teams want 2 catchers on the bench with the expanded rosters. The easy call is two of Rengifo, Beaty and Rios going to AAA, but that may be a hard sell for the MLBPA at this point.

They hired and extended Dave Roberts, too.
    Not that big a thing.
About equal as D Day was for the world....for Dodger fans in importance.

    True.
I think over the course of 162, Roberts is in the upper tier of managers (not a high bar, admittedly)
But when it comes to October, he never learns
He earned his firing and didn't get it
    I'm still upset about it

So I have been thinking about this a lot, but we hate Doc because of the team falling short every year. Yet we have found out that two of the years that he fell short, the team across the diamond from us was cheating at a level that has not been seen in this sport before. Now last year was an absolute catastrophe that he completely overthought and cost us a shot at a third straight WS appearance. At the same time, I do not think that team was capable of beating the Astros either. Our pitching was not nearly up to snuff of the Nats and their aces shoved. I have gone from, "fuck this dude, he needs to be fired" to, "ok, let's see what this guy does with an even playing field now." I don't know, maybe it is just me, but I think he does deserve another shot now with a team that is more loaded than the one we saw last year.

I am VERY high on May since he has improved every year since he came up and the dude is a workhorse. A guy that size with that control at his age has a very special ceiling and I think a lot of people are selling him short since he "doesn't have a strikeout pitch". I would not be shocked if May is a top 25 starter by the end of next season. I don't think he will come close to Kershaw(seriously, he's a generational pitcher), but I do think that he is going to be very good.

    • Yikes, Yankees announce that Paxton underwent surgery and will return to action in 3-4 months.
    • Gammons saying that Red Sox-Dodgers deal is more than what is being said.

Hurts them a little but when did this happen? This far into the off-season, wow. Angel's farm is pretty bad so should we be excited about the 2 specs in the deal and who was the guy we traded from the system?

I am guessing that Paxton started ramping things up ahead of reporting next week and something wasn't right. It sounds like we are sending more to the Sox, nothing about anything coming from them.

    Fair enough.
It's just that taking those slimy cheaters into consideration, as well they should be, the Nats didn't cheat. I don't think.
His maladroit moves on the field in that fiasco were the stuff of legend.

I do NOT hate Roberts for us falling short every year.
2017 was the fault of Jansen, Darvish, and Kershaw (and now we've learned about cheating)
Roberts does not make Bellinger and Seager swing at the same back foot slider over and over again
Roberts did not make Jansen throw a flat 0-2 cutter.

Every manager, in October, is going to make decisions that do not work out and they are magnified. So there should always be grace.
    He's made great decisions too.

BUT he has made so many egregious, indisputably bad decisions in the post.
Repeat offenses, too (The handling of Rich Hill 2 WS in a row comes to mind)

He earned his firing after last season. So many errors in game 5 alone.
Maeda had been lights out in the 8th inning the entire series and September.
He and the F.O. found a formula that worked.
And he threw the formula in the garbage can with 6 outs to go.
Even after the Rendon HR, he had a chance to redeem himself. NOPE. Leaves Kershaw in.
Kelly pitches a great 9th, but all the data shows he sucks after 1 inning of work.
Dave didn't care. Puts him out for a 2nd inning.

It's funny. People on Twitter criticize him for being a FO puppet.
I actually think he is at his best when he is working closely with them.
    Collaboration strength of his.
It's when he abandons the plan where he fails.

Do I think there is a long list of managers out there who are way better?
No. And that's one of the reasons he is still here.
This is the one time I despise the FO's pragmatic approach.

What's this? If I had to guess, it would be one of the unnamed prospects from the Angels?

Nothing more than that as he just started guessing. He has a feeling that it is related to the type of penalties the Red Sox are expected to get leveled with.
