There are good reasons NOT to go all in this trade deadline for a team like the Dodgers.
    1. The expanded playoff format opens up way more opportunities for upsets.
    2. A player or more getting sick at an inopportune time could completely upend a season.
    3. There is no guarantee this season will even happen. Not only with the corona issues, but now the civil unrest also has a chance to end the season.
I think the FO is looking at that and seeing how they may take advantage of this situation.

All those are arguments made by loser organizations. Not champions.
    Its all what about ism.
What about if this happens and what about if that.
The only winning arguments that can be made are if there was clearly stronger opponents. Or if we already had a season ending injury to a star. Or if we were a team with low depth or low payroll.
Clevinger is so young that I don't mind losing May and Lux to get him.
Specially if we also are able to get Lindor without losing anyone that's part of the future core.
It's like the deal for Mookie.
Lost Verdugo who is looking good but upgraded the everyday lineup and locker room tremendously.
It would suck to see the Padres get Clevinger and another rival get Lindor.
    And lose in the post.
To orgs who didn't essentially halfway throw in the towel to the season.

Austin Nola to SD and Taylor Trammel is going back. That’s a big time prospect. Other pieces involved were Ty France, Luis Torrens and Austin Adams.

Nola has been excellent and he has plenty of control yet. So if this isn’t just a spurt and he’s the real deal, then that’s a great trade for both sides. If he reverts or teams figure him out and he struggles, this could look horrific. Two new catchers today, guessing they’re not done making moves.

I honestly don’t think we’re making a deal that’s a huge “wow” reaction. Upgrades are just VERY minimal at this time and the ones that are upgrades to the rotation come with serious issues in the clubhouse. Just hard to see the FO do something like that.

Nola is 30. Unless he started injecting roids directly into his nuts I think they are just hoping to his wave doesn't turn into a rip tide before the season ends.

They are definitely aggressive to close the gap, but there is definitely a gap. What worries me some is that LA and SD are looking like the 2 best teams in the NL by a good margin, but we will be the #1 and #4 seeds, putting us on a path to matchup in a 5-game NLDS series. While 5 games sounds long compared to a 3-game series, it is still a short series against a dangerous opponent. It could be a repeat of last year when the Dodgers and Nationals were clearly the NL’s two best.

I get your point but I would make an exception for Clevinger. Top of the rotation pitchers controllable until 2023 don't grow on trees. This is an investment in the future.

Well, no matter what any team does in the next five hours, the Dodgers, hands down, have made the most spectacular signing of 2020, and for quite possibly longer.
The Machado signing, possibly, may prove to be as important...it would be just totally grotesque should his Dodger taunting prediction come to fruition, and could send Dodger fans spinning off their axis, definitely including this one...but his recent performance is strikingly timely. Like cosmic level.
But, IRL, no single signing compares to Betts being wrapped up until the asteroid strike, so should the team do nothing ( or very little) today, it would be unfair to criticize them...
    Too harshly, anyway.
But we are far from perfect, and bb has a cruel and shitty way of exposing chinks in the armour.
Always keeping in mind, Dave's often psycho button pushing, must be lept over by sheer talent overall.
Oh, and the Padres just got Clevinger.

I get that, but there’s a reason beyond Covid for why he’s available with such control left. There are a lot of rumors that he was not well liked in the clubhouse before this fiasco. The Dodgers were said to have interest in him before. So it may not be an issue, but considering how important the players in our org are taking this thing, the club may have pause in adding him.

Ok, it’s a big package, but Padres did not give up either of their two big SP prospects and it’s more quantity than current quality.

Where is the eye-poking SD Padre emoji thing ?
Seems a bit inappropriate right about now, I guess.

If I may be so bold, answering that before CKWG, it would like giving up Dave Roberts.
Oh, and plus the new, deteriorated Kike Hernandez.

It's hard to say exactly what the Dodgers would have needed to beat that, since we don't really have equivalents of a lot of the guys in the Padres package.

My guess is the Dodgers package looked a lot different.
