I don't mind this at all, as long as this is the bulk of what LA is sending. I see they're reviewing Stewart's extensive injury history, and based on that should not let any top prospects go with Outman. Sounds like the deal is still being worked.

Looks like it's just a one for one deal

Outman just never had a clue vs major league pitching.

Always confused me how the same guy I'd watch strikeout almost every AB would get sent down and start mashing

Just could never make that leap

I couldn't agree more. It's a shame because his speed and glove plays. But his ceiling just may be AAA.

On the other hand, he might just need more time. I wouldn't hate it if he figures it out somewhere down the road in Minnesota.

But he was still striking out at about a 30 percent clip at AAA.

MLB needs to adopt rules that allows teams to field their best 9 defensive and offensive units without worrying about the players going both ways
Can they? Sure, if they are one of the best 9 for each unit
Imagine the career James Outman could have if he was able to play CF for a team without taking up a starting offensive spot
Instead, he will likely fizzle out in Minnesota then disappear into the minor leagues
and we are forced to watch guys like Max Muncy try to field a ball
Just because we did something significant one way for a long time does not mean we must continue to

That's a really hard sell BDK. I get your thinking... would make for a better quality product. But I think the chance that baseball would make such a wholesale change is somewhere between never and never.

MLB took the pitcher out of the lineup, why not the sub-.200 batting average stud defender
It would make for a significantly better product (and more creative)
Making a much more watchable product
Which is more money for everyone, owners and players
But they would have to weather the initial shit storm from traditionalists

Note from the Athletic on Call.........

The Dodgers have gotten their outfielder, landing Alex Call from the Washington Nationals and setting up a potential platoon situation with Michael Conforto (who has quietly produced an .827 OPS in July). Call, 30, has produced an .802 OPS against left-handed pitching this season and has experience at all three outfield spots.

The team has obviously shot high in trying to pursue Cleveland's Steven Kwan, but Call represents a different tier of controllable outfielder (under control through the 2029 season) who could help reinforce a lineup that has sagged over the last couple months.

Hate to see Kelly leave the division. Dodgers own him.

Merrill Kelly, a pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks, has a career record of 1-11 with an ERA of 5.56 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has faced them 17 times, with 10 appearances in his last 10 games against the Dodgers. In those 10 games, he is 1-6 with a 5.76 ERA and 39 strikeouts according to StatMuse. In his most recent 6 games against the Dodgers, he has a record of 1-2 with a 3.66 ERA and 17 strikeouts.

Swan was a 2023 4th rounder out of college. Hadn't done anything crazy yet at Great Lakes - 4.43 ERA this year - but seemingly was putting it together with a 3.86 ERA in July, and just last night threw 6 shutout innings. His batting avg against is good, but like many other young pitchers, his control is not, with less than a 2:1 K to BB ratio.

Linan is the Colombian pitcher that I highlighted in the other thread. Must've been signed as a 16-yr old because this is his fourth season in the Dodgers organization and he's only 20. Looking pretty good this year at Great Lakes with a 2.78 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, and a 3+ to 1 K/BB ratio.

A couple arms that could develop for Washington, but if Call platoons effectively with Conforto, this sounds like a fair trade.
