I immediately (even before fsu's post) assumed James Tibbs III was a black dude. Wow... racist.

    2025 Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 55 | Run: 40 | Arm: 55 | Field: 40 | Overall: 50

Scouts considered Tibbs the third-best offensive prospect in Georgia's 2021 class behind first-rounders Brady House and Harry Ford, but his bat-over-athlete profile sent him to Florida State rather than pro ball. He improved throughout his college career and slashed .363/.488/.777 in 2024 while leading the Seminoles to the Men's College World Series and earning Atlantic Coast Conference player and scholar-athlete of the year honors. The Giants signed him for $4,747,500 as the 13th overall pick last July before including him in the stunning Rafael Devers trade with the Red Sox 11 months later.

Tibbs offered one of the best combinations of swing decisions and hard contact in the Draft. He has a smooth left-handed swing with plenty of bat speed and strength, giving him solid power to all fields. While at Florida State, he closed the holes he once had against breaking pitches, shrunk his strikeout rate from 32 percent as a freshman to 12 percent as a junior and boosted his walk rate from 12 percent to 18 percent. He has stood out more with his pop than his hitting ability at High-A, though he has drawn a healthy amount of walks.

Tibbs has bounced from left field as a freshman to primarily playing first base as a sophomore to right field as a junior and his first taste of pro ball. He has the solid arm strength to handle right field, though he'll need to maintain every bit of his presently below-average speed to have viable range. Even so, it still could be a stretch for him to cover Fenway Park's spacious right field, so he could wind up on the other outfield corner.

    OK... here's the May trade....

The Boston Red Sox have acquired right-handed pitcher Dustin May from the Los Angeles Dodgers just minutes before Thursday's Major League Baseball trade deadline, ESPN reports. In return, the Dodgers will receive outfielder/first baseman James Tibbs III (per FanSided) and outfielder Zach Ehrhard (per MassLive). Tibbs is one of the prospects the Red Sox received in the recent trade of Rafael Devers to the Giants.

    via reddit…
    • [Ardaya] Brandon Gomes said the Dodgers had “respectful conversations” with Dustin May in recent days and said May’s preference was to be a starter — so the Dodgers were willing to facilitate for the right deal. Gomes specified that May did not request a trade.

Not concerned about the lack of activity by the front office.

They picked up filled some needs with Stewart and Call. I wouldn't underestimate the guys they got in the Feduccia deal. Friendman is pretty good at these under the radar deals.

Get several of Muncy, Snell, Sasaki, Kim, Scott (maybe), Bazooka, Kopech or Kike back and healthy and they're set for another run.

    Yeah, good ol Sidney.
He even acted like a gentleman performance-wise. In the hey day of the method actor (which I loved), he remained. unique. Always an elegant presence on the screen.
    Class personified.

So...May wanted to be traded, eh? Well, they placated him for sure.
Seems like pitching from the bp was a distinct no- no for him.
    The team player concept ?

Early returns no bueno for the Yankees............

One day after the MLB trade deadline, the three newest additions to the New York Yankees’ bullpen collapsed in a stunning 13-12 loss to the Miami Marlins.

Jake Bird, David Bednar and Camilo Doval combined to allow nine runs in 2 1/3 innings in what was arguably the Yankees’ worst loss of the season.

“Not how you draw it up, but those guys are really good at what they do,” manager Aaron Boone said of his new relievers. “It’s not the first time they’ve had a rough one, and I fully expect them to bounce back.”

It was the Yankees’ first nine-inning loss while scoring 12 or more runs since Aug. 12, 1973, against Oakland, according to Katie Sharp of Baseball Reference.

Aside from all the emotional and personal baggage bs, I thought for 1,2,3 innings, he could have been awesome. He seemed not to have the long range consistency and put away to be a plus starter. But his stuff for a shorter amount of time, along with the experience of Emmett and Wrobo would have elevates us to the upper echelon bp status we once had, imo. Like immediately.
We won the WS last year and in the plague year with a starters on the mound to close them out.
In a way, too bad about May... It would have been very interesting, to say the least.
He. may have heard opportunity knocking, but chose not to anawer that door.
We'll see in time if he walks the right path.

Well they eat fewer salads in Boston, right? So that could be a positive for him.
