    @FredoCervantes
Dodgers GM Brandon Gomes shares his thoughts on Shohei Ohtani’s injury.

“I think not having Shohei in the lineup, for you know, 10 days or whatever would be something that we would prefer not to do, and it really hasn't even been something that we discovered.” Gomes said.

    uh brandon…
i don’t know if you’ve been paying attention, but your boy hasn’t technically been in the lineup for a long time

could be but i think that would be a part of a larger thing of being selfish and baseball distracted

Wouldnt Mookie be mad at everyone then? Why just FF?
Maybe we'll get a podcast episode about it

I'm just making shit up here, not saying this is true but what if it's the other way around. Guys are mad at Mookie for not showing team solidarity.

But I don't even know that there's an issue. Just spitballing a response to the comment that they're not besties anymore.

It's not just the lack performance of late. It's the lack of effort and his sad sack body language.

That's why I say that if Roberts isn't going to do anything, someone else has to step up and get in his face.

And by the way, if Muncy looks like a possum, then Tucker has to be part ostrich. I wish I knew how to post side by side pictures.

Tells everyone that they'll be alright. Proceeds to strand 6 runners on base.

Not sure who the Reggie Smith is in this clubhouse. Not sure they have one.

The average strikeout rate for MLB hitters is historically 22-25%. Kike is at 33%.

The average walk rate is historically 8.5-9.5%. Kike has walked in 5.8% of his plate appearances.

The average OBP for MLB hitters is typically .320. The bare minimum should be .300 - anything lower is considered poor. Kike is currently at .269. Last year he got on at a .255 clip. In fact, over the past seven years, he's finished above .300 only once, in 2023 (.308), so it's not like this is a fluke year.

Getting on base is key for a player in his role, and he's failing miserably. The only Dodgers in 2026 with a lower OBP are Chuckie, Eliezer, Ben, and Alek Thomas. Espinal and Ward had better rates, and even Freeland's OBP is .304. If you need a bat off the bench to get on base before a big hitter, statistically you would call on Call, whose OBP is .361.

He's often put in to face LHP. This year, his BA is .200 and his OBP is .222 against lefties (.286 and .375 against RHP, although only 14 ABs). Meanwhile, the guy he usually platoons with, Muncy, is batting .240 vs lefties, and with a .324 OBP, which is actually above average.

No doubt he's had many postseason heroics in his career, although last year's 16 for 64 (.250) was more average than his previous seasons. However, his catch and throw to second in Game 6 in Toronto may have saved the series.

But for some reason, Dense Dave loves him and starts him every third game, like something is suddenly going to change. At this point, he should be a defensive replacement and an occasional spot starter. Taking as many ABs away from others as he does is just a misuse and mismanagement of his talents.

I can't deny what he's meant to this team in the playoffs over the years. Chances are that we're going to need him for a big catch or something this year. But man, that bat is putrid, and that's putting it kindly.

i’ve heardread freddie and rojas are the most vocal, but neither strikes me as the kind of guy willing to get in someone’s face
so it probably falls on roberts… which explains why there’s no true leadership, direction or discipline

I was going to post this in the game thread but someone <ahem> has yet to unlock it, so it goes here...

As of right now Kike is penciled-in at 1B tonight. The adoration that Davey has for him is mind-boggling.

if there was ever a player deserving of a shoulder shrug he's it. nothing about about those numbers is the least bit appealing. he needs to be a mascot and make the occasional big play or walk into a HR. isn't he making 5 or 6 mil this year? incredible slight of hand senor banana. keep your politics to yourself btw.

for me a lot depends on how his does this postseason
if he sucks the decision is easy
but if he continues to rake it’s definitely a tougher call
i would hate for him to block the call-up of a tibbs, sirota, quintero, de paula, etc
maybe we could sign him with an agreement that he plays in OKC until september
    idk
