Public sector unions are the worst. Why should people need to collectively bargain against the taxpayers, while simultaneously weilding significant influence over the taxpayers' elected representatives.

I don't mean to come off as brash so I apologize if i have. Don't wanna sever any relationships here due to differing political ideologies lol

I understand you're a business owner so I see where you're coming from. But that just goes with living in the most desired state in the country. Any business in any field is gonna be taxed heavily and be prone to many regulations. Mainly because California needs to generate the money somehow to fund all these programs. Programs that I'm sure you personally want no part in funding. Would tax breaks and less regulations work here? Very doubtful. but businesses are welcome to relocate and many have. But at the end of the day these things aren't enough and people are willing to pay the luxury to live here

nowhere close to severing anything and again it goes waaaaay beyond heavily taxed or over regulated
i am all for helping people in need but the system is being abused big time
and there is no checks or balances going the opposite direction
i know personally of people using 4 or 5 different ssn to receive 5 times the benes is that fair? do you think thats an anomaly?
is there any system in place to expose this fraud?
if you own a business in orange county or sfv you have almost certainly been audited at least once if not more
they don't find they made a mistake btw its always a fine plus penalties and they put you on a payment plan as if you don't have enough bills
its a straight rip off from the strong arm of the state but yeah its the price of doing business here
visit a state board office and see the bullet proof glass and guards w guns and tell me what time it is
and yet if you have a business south of the 10 in downtown you don't even have to ask people for tax money unless you want the extra 10%
they don't even pretend to enforce the laws on sales tax in downtown
i have intentionally stopped selling anything to avoid these thieves and like i said its not a sexy or unusual story
every business owner has been shaken down
    just ask one
but all of us are rich right?
thats exactly what the state thinks and why you have far fewer choices to shop
its nearly impossible to survive here
look around you at any of the bland street corners in every city
its a liquor store, a foot massage, a chinese restaurant, a dry cleaner and a 7/11
and the restaurant and dry cleaner is about to change hands or close doors
also notice that there is little to no one employed and the owner is who you are talking to

We will have to agree to disagree on this... I'm not sure if what we were debating is even all that important in the big picture, but of course I'm right :poke:

I've heard you talk before about wanting to help people, in particular homeless or people completely down. What would I do? The short, honest answer: I have absolutely no idea. A possible place to start could be to see what is already out there, and if there is something you can do to help. Maybe check with local churches? That might be too close to the bigger charity thing you want to avoid. If you want to start something yourself, you probably first want to decide on a goal - for example, is the goal to help people get back on their feet? Or is the goal to just make them feel more comfortable? And after that, is there anything special you can bring to the table? I don't know what kind of health, psychology, welfare, job placement programs are already out there, but if there are things available, helping people connect with the services they can utilize could be tremendous. Food and shelter programs and anything that help with basic needs are good, but maybe what would make some of these people's day is something else, like a 5-minute conversation and a clean pair of socks. You could try talking to some of the people you want to help to get a sense of what they would value. Also, I think you have to be ok with getting burned... Get burned enough and it's probably a sign that you aren't on the right track, but getting burned once in a while might be justifiable if you are truly helping others. Either way, you never want to get down on yourself for trying to do something good. I hope I've said something useful in my rambling, but like I said, I really don't know what I would do.

I say start a charity fundraiser in memory of down and out homeless ex-athletes.
Name it after Cecil Espy and have an awards gala every year to raise funds for these veterans.
You can call it the Cecil Espy awards. Or just the Espys for short.

i know its not easy and i keep bumping into mental walls
i'm probably more looking at a conversation and a pair of socks thing but having spoken to many homeless is seems they have an abundance of those things
its just so frustrating and sad and i can't seem to look past them anymore
i mean i never looked past but now i look them in the eye and thats terrifying and intense
i see the fakers and drug addict/alcoholic types begging for money and i'm not interested in people self destructing or scamming
just seems like there would be a way to do something real and i want to have a cause to further for the school i have found myself owning
maybe if its even a one person thing idk let me know cause i have good intentions and not much else atm

If it was an easy problem to fix, it would be fixed already.

Just curious, of the people you have talked to, do you get a sense of what they could use that they don't have? Is it something different for everyone, the same, or just really hard to tell what it is? I know mental disability can play a role, do you get the sense that some people you talk to could live a more "normal" life if given the opportunity? For instance, would you hire anyone you've talked to (I'm not saying you should hire people, just wondering how well people could theoretically hold down a job if the opportunity was there)?

    Ha.
Counting down until you get a response about the "Puigs"...for flash in the pans.
Which is the new moniker for him, I guess.
I want the "Romos" for guys who were good, but then not so good, and then, the Dodgers got them.
And they love everyone on the team they came from. Deeply.

its a mix of all sorts of things but mostly at least border line mental illness
after a while on the street i think people start to go crazy from talking to themselves and other insane people are your "friends"
its actually kind of hard to get people to open up about things because they are traumatized and assume you have an angle
i don't think the majority are capable of holding down a job
seems like a lot of them have just resigned themselves to that life and have no hope at all

Best thing for homeless is to bring them in to take care of soil and goats on cheap shitty land.
Creating soil from crappy dirt just takes collecting non trash, food scraps from markets, and lots of carboard for groundcover.
Things homeless people are familiar with.
Those items will replenish any shitty dirt into powerful soil in no time. Specially if you add a few good worms into the mix.
Some goats so they can relearn how to take care/focus/love someone else even if its an animal. That way they learn to love/focus/care for themselves and others again.
Crops grow well in that substrate of trash and carboard even before the dirt becomes good humus. Just make a hole in the carboard and plant in the trash substrate. Plant lots of amaranth since the leaves make great calaloo greens and the grains are like little corn and the thing grows wild and self seeds after the initial planting. That can be their staple crop to feed themselves.
Build a quick and dirty camp shower and a place to shit in and free meals.
After a few months teach them to build tiny houses out of sheds, pallets, or recycled wood you can get free as trash left over from construction sites.
Separate your homeless guys into what they do best. Send some back to the street to sell fruits by the side of the freeway to compete with the mexicans selling oranges.
Get them using the goats to clear back brush for large landholders. Pastoring a herd of goats is a good job for a homeless guy used to being outside. Get them to make and sell feta goat cheese and yogurt.
Homeless people are already literally outdoorsmen. Now make them think of themselves as heirs to the ancient nomadic gatherer shepherds that have always existed.

There is a sign in Indiana, in the front window of a business:
WE WOULD RATHER DO BUSINESS WITH OBAMA, HILLARY CLINTON, NANCY PELOSI, HARRY REID, MAXINE WATERS, ALL THE ELITE LIBERALS IN THE HOUSE AND SENATE, THAN WITH ONE CONSERVATIVE EVER.

What kind of business would do this, you ask?

    defender of child molesters?
like george takei calling children delightful and delicious?
or any major art museum displaying child porn as art?
i've seen it in chicago and ny and its pretty shocking but hey its art
as far as the presser that several whiny outlets weren't invited to comparing to a violent outburst designed to shut down speech, nah not close
and btw i'm sure you were outraged when BO did the same thing to fox news right?
what was it like a month before he would even take a question from them?
somehow i don't recall the liberal media screaming about the end of the world coming back then
lets at least try to be consistent and ah who am i fooling? he's hitler and life is over in one quick month

On this we agree. 5 punk kids breaking windows because they don't like a person talking on their campus, vs. the President of the United States of America continuing to call unfavorable news reports "fake" and punishing major news sources that continue to write unfavorable news reports by not allowing them into a closed press conference in an attempt to skew news more favorably in his direction - yes, these two things are not close.
