59 Tomahawk missiles on Shayrat AF base in Syria should make quite an impression on Assad.
We'll see if he continues to murder his civilian population.

Don't quite know what you mean about not being sure if it was Assad...You mean the Russians on their own?
The chemicals were dropped by a Sukhoi aircraft, certainly Russian. Nothing new, except a US attack behind it.
Makes it all quite different than the last 7 years of slaughter of these innocents.

Obama liked to bomb Syria too...So think he probably would have done the same thing.

My question is: why is this the US's problem?
Maybe let them sort it out themselves. Or let Russia deal with it.

    yeah he did
after dropping warning leaflets and drawing red lines
i hope this is just a sobering fuck you for murdering innocents
i know as a true libertarian you want no part of anything outside our interests and we were not attacked
but IF this asshole truly murdered his own people like that i am satisfied w this response
and especially the timing of it w n korea pulling their bs and china at dinner
did it also take the whole russia thing off the table?
sure it did and at the same time it told the rest of the world we are no longer the same pussies of the last 8 years
i don't want a war, especially if russia gets involved but it seems like someone needed to make a statement
not like you see a lot of leaders in the world murdering their own in this fashion atm

Yes...And no one knows better than the Russians about killing their own people. Stalin made Hitler look like an amateur at genocide. They probably get the" murdering your own" brass ring since the earth has been populated by humans. Maybe it just doesn't phase them.
Maybe it is a mitochondrial level thing.
Whatever it is...How can it be ignored by those who can do something about stopping it?

Mao (~100Million) and Pol Pot (1/3 of his population) were pretty damn good at that too.
There is one thing that communism is good at....

The whole "killed their own people" thing does not move the needle for me.
I have seen it before and everytime the 'own people' arent really his people.
Just because they live in the same country as you does not mean they are 'your people'.
Specially if they hate you and are fighting against you or helping your enemy.
The Kurds were in no way Saddam Husseins 'people'... yet that is all we heard.
We always use "his own people" as a dog whistle that gets all the pups lined up in a row.
If he kills his own people then we must go to war against him, think about the childrens. At least that is the logic.
Truth is that we just looking for an excuse to go all World Police on people.
We dont really care about their children.
Who when they grow up we will want to bomb anyway.
Or they will want to bomb us.
    Either way, rinse repeat.

Thank God I don't think the way you do.

Nahh....see my post above about Syria.
I don't believe in going to war unless directly threatened.
But it's worth paying attention to the transgressions of other societies so I can properly virtue signal. :D

Im not saying that we must go to war, on the contrary. Im saying that unfortunately most people can be moved to think its morally a good idea to go to war when a dictator 'kills his own people'.
We all react emotionally to things, but we need to try hard not to think emotionally too.

No emotions and bluffing and drawing fake lines in the sand is the way, eh?
Yeah we had that I think. Yep.
Especially dealing with people, who for their whole history, have understood and only reacted to power and might. Who laugh at diplomacy and spit in the face of indeciveness. A slaughter a few here and there.
Yes, definitely let's get a coalition together...Or wait for the UN. Then paint the US Marines helmets blue, and pretend it's a " coalition". Pretend like anyone else is prepared to take that risk...Talk it out.
Sheeeeiitttt...They're not our kids dyin'...Fuck 'em.

Not saying any of that either.
Hell, if you feel the need to go to war then go to war.
But fucking go in like the big bad motherfucker we are and clean house.
Who cares if people think we are the bad guy once its done.
Point is that with war you dont go into it lightly. And once you go in you go in all in.

all this pc bullshit has trickled down to everything
people think and then posture instead of just acting/reacting
more worried about how they're perceived instead of doing the greater good
and i think you're on the right path rube with the go out and kick ass mentality

so in that view we're now at war with Syria?

    To accomplish what?

The Russians were 'supposed' to have confiscated all of their chemical weapons years ago.
    so much for the Russians

Rube makes an interesting (conspiracy) theory a few posts back
Does this neatly get Trump off the hook for his inside Russian connections

Perhaps but only to the most shallow viewers... most Americans
Otherwise it was a strike of no consequence
    Except perhaps to North Korea
    Like that would matter anyways

I didn't even accomplish anything, other than waste millions of dollars in military equipment (Broken window fallacy?)
The Assad regime is still running operations out of the airfield that was bombed.

And I don't think this threatens North Korea one iota. They don't act in a rational manner, so threats will not subdue them.
Besides, if the US attacks North Korea, they'll probably nuke Seoul, and there's probably not a damn thing that can be done to stop them.
