    I think guys like Sacha Baron Cohen, who I think is aces and original to a point, owe a lot to Andy Kaufman.

    norm mcdonald is a favorite of mine.
    He is like kaufman if kaufman sold out completely and let you in on the joke.
    Kaufman never sold his act to the audience
    They had to buy it for themselves
    Mcdonald is better than all the other comics that been working since the 90s and most people dont think hes funny
    They think he is just a troll
    But he is awesome because he trolls the trolls in the most awesome ways.

    his roast of bob saget was awesome too
    in that one he didnt sell out and was close to something kaufman would do
    basically he did a bob saget set of corny jokes that folks who watch 7PM network tv would find hilarious
    it was a hilarious tribute to saget and roast of his entire career without having to actually roast him like all the other comics
    the roasting style being overplayed and hacky, so norm always way ahead of the curve threw a screwball

    God his voice grates.

    But his rendition of the Aristocrats joke was spot on at a time we needed to laugh (right after 9/11).

    Well, you can get an overview by seeing "Lenny" with Dustin Hoffman. And a hot, great Valerie Perrine as Honey. A nitty gritty film not shown enough. Definitely worth seeing.
    If you dig up his recorded bits, stay away from his stuff after he started getting arrested...it's all political, and he doesn't even bother it one point. Unless of course you are into it.
    Hoffman is superb as Bruce.
    Imo, his heir apparent was Mort Sahl.

    Seen the guy at several comedy clubs in NYC...he is fucking hilarious, start to finish. The voice is exaggerated, like Richard Simmons, who I read is a woman now...haha.

    Norm is one funny dude. Doesn't get enough work, imo. When Dennis Miller had his show on HBO, I think it was, Macdonald's guest spot was classic.
