I think it's safe to say we're making the playoffs, so with just over a week to go, I thought it would be interesting to see what we thought the playoff roster WILL be. I guess you can do one of what you want it to be more then what you think the front office will do, but theres some spots up for grabs. To do some of the base work, I think a couple things are safe to say (sorry this will get lenghty): We'll have a 12 man pitching staff. Sometimes in the playoffs teams go with a 7 man bullpen and 4 man starting rotation, but we've gone with a 8 man bullpen all year so I think we'll do 8 man bullpen and 4 man rotation. So we have a 8 man bullpen and 4 man rotation. The locks: Clayton Kershaw Rich Hill Kenta Maeda Kenley Jansen Joe Blanton Grant Dayton Pedro Baez So, 7 out of 12 spots are locks... Meaning theres still arguably 1 rotation spot and 4 bullpen spots. For the position players, here are the locks: Yasmani, Gonzalez, Utley, Seager, Turner, Howie, Joc, Reddick, Puig, Enrique, Toles, Ruiz I know you could argue against Toles/Enrique/Ruiz but... there locks, realistically. So that is 12 position players that are locks out of 13, leaving us with one open spot. The options here are basically Culberson, Ethier, Barnes, Micah, or Segedin. As you can see, I don't think anyone from that group is overtaking Toles/Enrique/Ruiz as a lock My guess? The pitching staff is the one I don't feel comfortable accurately guessing one way or another cause I think a lot will change in the next week with the return of Kaz/Brett/BMac, this thread can be open and changing. But if I have to make a prediction, I'd say the 5 open pitching staff spots go: De Leon, Stripling, Wood, Urias, and Jesse Chavez For the position players, I'll guess Ethier to give us a 2 lefty, 2 righty bench. Sorry for the length but basically it comes down to guessing what the remaining 5 pitchers and 1 hitter will be
Urias is a lock, imo. He will come out of the bullpen and probably make at least 1 start if we advance to the LCS/WS. I hope Kike gets injured if he's a lock
i hear ya and as you probably remember i was one of his strongest supporters early i just think stripling/stewart/jdl might be the better option for #4 idk
I expected so much more from Kazmir. He can be very good, but he's a little like Anderson in having that 1 bad inning.
Headcase, yes. But he's worked on his secondary pitches during his stay at OKC. He's been a different pitcher since. Doesn't mean I still don't cringe every time he comes in.
I've been a Kazmir supporter, but we can safely take him out of the postseason roster conversation now.
That's fine but who are you placing on there instead of him? Segedin? Barnes? Micah or Culberson? Those are basically the other options
