I don't know about being high and mighty as you write, but I wasn't born in this country, nor was my mother, and she became a naturalized citizen and considered it one of the greatest days of her life.
She was proud of it, and never criticized this country, ever, in all her 94 years.
She considered it a privelege to live in America.
