I've liked him in the past as he sometimes provided some great insight into the team, but since the new FO took over I've lost some of that respect. He seems ultra old school and pretty against the new aged thought (which means he could be on his way out of the booth soon) and has said some things against the new FO. The thing is about this though, is it all sounded pretty tuned in and not a lot of "in my opinion" stuff. The bullpen was as I feel it has had some bright spots lately. He also kind of stood up for Puig when the other guy claimed the team was better off without him. Kennedy agreed that at this point, they are, but it is because he is all out whack (kind of what I said the other day) and needs to refine his approach as right now the only stuff he has shown he can handle is slower fastballs, secondary pitches and NOTHING in the upper part of the zone.
I've never heard Kennedy rip the FO. He seems pretty receptive to new information and is excellent at breaking down games.
i used to hate kennedy he used to always play the "when i was managing" card which pissed me off but he does offer some very good insight, and he's not afraid if people disagree he would be a great advanced scout if he ego would allow it
When he has filled in on the MLBNetwork radio he has somewhat lamented a deal or two they did. He was REALLY not happy when they did the Dee deal and I remember him bemoaning it for a while. I liked him when I lived in LA on the radio, but have not had an opportunity to hear him much outside of the games he'd do on the radio here and there and when he'd fill in on MLB Network. Hence my opening comment being a more recent result of a small sample size.
He doesn't do any of that on the Dodger broadcasts. He loves Dee but has told fans on numerous occasions why the deal males sense. What he does on a national radio show I have no idea.
Dylan Hernandez @dylanohernandez 14m14 minutes ago "Miraculous" and "legendary" is how Mattingly described Puig's recovery. Dylan Hernandez @dylanohernandez 19m19 minutes ago Puig running at 100% now. ------------------------------------------ Could throw his name into the conversation. Were he to make it, hopefully it would be over someone like Crawford, and not Ruggiano.
.320 vs LHP in 25 ABs or .309 vs LHP in 81 ABs (12 XBHs)? This is a serious case of small sample size theatre. We all know how OCD Donny is about R/L, so he is gonna want right-handed bats off the bench to face LH relievers who follow deGrom, Harvey and Syndergaard.
No, I love Ruggi. I'm looking at Utley. Crawford has value, especially in the leadoff spot or as a pinch runner at the least. Utley is just there.
I guess in a way it's Utley vs. Joc because if Kike has to step in for Howie then that means Joc takes over in CF. But the above, instead of Utley taking over for Howie, sounds fine to me. Joc's still getting on base more than Utley is and of course we know what Joc means defensively.
I tend to agree. Seems to be that a more effective position player group against the Mets (3 RH starters) would be: C: AJ, Grandal INF: Gonzalez, Kendrick, Turner, Seager, Rollins OF: Ethier, Joc, Puig, SVS, Ruggiano, Crawford Util: Kike But Utley will make it, so someone gets left out.
Yeah, it's a shame too. You know..I almost wish they'd just chunk the " long man " Frias/Bolsinger and let a Yimi handle it if Utley just has to make it.
I would leave Puig off the roster. He hasn't seen live pitching in a month and he won't have time to find his swing. Let him spectate and work for a spring return.
Puig hit .277/.382/.554 against lefties this year. I think he obviously has upside against righties too, but if he's healthy, you gotta get him on there and can't really see why you'd have Ruggiano or SVS in front of him. Yeah, sure, he hasn't seen live pitching in awhile now but Howie and Enrique had similar situations and came back hitting. Well, Enrique has in 2 games and Howie's been allright. Every player is different of course but it's not like it's unheard of.
I was playing with the schedule through the course of the whole post-season to try to figure out how many Kershaw/Greinke starts their could be, and assuming at least 4 days of rest, they could start 11 of the possible 19 games. Now, we know Kershaw wouldn't be making his second start on full-rest in game 4, down 2-1 or up 2-1, I imagine he will start. Because of the 2-3-2 format in the LCS and WS, it's hard to manipulate extra starts, I even setup where they both pitched on 3 days when possible (4 in the case of an off-day) and only got 13 of 19, obviously that isn't going to happen, but it was an interesting exercise.
" Only " 11 of 19 and 13 of 19 is right. Lol I found that exercise more than interesting...as in prayers up for all those non-CK/Greinke starts. With 3 or 4 of our impact bats somewhat scuffling right now...man, they might need sparkling defensive efforts and every ounce of " grit " that they have to win it all. DBB's moves may be more pivotal than ever.
