I feel like we'll only use Puig in an emergency situation. Mets win the first 2 games and shut our offense down easily and Puig gets thrown into game 3 in hopes of adding a spark.

Not good with numbers...not good with words...not good with whatever.
If he could only win once, then he comfortably nestle into a "he's not a media darling, but he knows how to win" category... that would be good for him and us. And give us all a warm feeling of knowing, insolent confidence, I think.
But...not so much so far with that.

He has been better than Cespedes except for this year.

    Machado is an absolute superstar.

Puig may join club over weekend against Padres
by Matthew Moreno | Dodgers Nation — October 02, 2015

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig’s sudden rise to full health added another layer Friday when manager Don Mattingly said Puig may join the club over the weekend.

“He may be here this weekend,” Mattingly said. “He’s played two days in a row there [Arizona] and we’ll see how it goes.” Puig was sent to the Dodgers’ Spring Training facility on Sept. 24 to continue forward with his recovery from a hamstring strain that again forced the outfielder to the 15-day disabled list.

Updates that followed from Mattingly indicated Puig was unlikely to return in time for the National League Division Series. That was until Mattingly said Wednesday Puig rapidly turned the corner and was able to run pain-free.

The fifth-year manager didn’t elaborate on what exactly the plan is for Puig. Though, he appears to have crossed off the required tests. “It doesn’t seem like it,” Mattingly answered when asked if there were additional hurdles for Puig to clear.

“He’s been able to run the last few days. He’s played on the field two days in a row. I think he walked, singled, tried to steal a base and got fouled off twice, stole a base on 3-2, got a ground ball in right field and threw it in easily.”

Battling multiple hamstring injuries throughout the season, Puig has been limited to just 77 games. He’s batting .256/.324/.440 with 11 home runs, 30 RBIs, a .331 wOBA and 112 wRC+.

Puig activated from DL, will start for Dodgers vs. Padres
    by Dan Arritt | ESPN.com — 1 minute ago

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig was activated from the disabled list and will start Saturday night against the visiting San Diego Padres.

Puig has been sidelined since Aug. 27 with a strained right hamstring, but has reportedly shown significant improvement in recent days and spent Thursday and Friday playing simulated games at the team's spring training facility in Arizona with no setbacks.

Puig is hitting .256 in 77 games this season, a big drop from his .296 average in 148 regular-season games in 2014, when he earned a spot on the National League All-Star team. Puig hit .319 as a rookie two years ago while appearing in 104 contests.

Puig, 24, is likely in the running for one of the 25 roster spots for the upcoming playoffs, and Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Friday he wanted to use the final two games of the regular season to look at players "on the bubble."

The Dodgers still have plenty to play for over the next two days, as they enter Saturday night's game with a one-game advantage over the New York Mets for home-field advantage in their NL Division Series set to begin next week.

The Mets lost 3-1 to the visiting Washington Nationals in the first game of a doubleheader, and are scheduled to start the second game at 7:10 p.m. ET, two hours before L.A.'s first pitch against the Padres.

Yeah, Puig should almost only be an option in late game defensive replacement situations. Don't trust him to have a good AB in general and certainly not as a pinch hitter. Also don't trust him as a pinch runner. The arm is always golden tho..just it's presence can do the job at times.

I prefer Puig watches post season play from elsewhere. In my opinion, he hasn't earned it this season and to me this team seems to play better when he was not playing. He simply doesn't fit in on a team that is trying to be fundamentally sound.
In before Puig throws a ball over the cutoff man and allows the winning run to advance costing us the season. :cliffjump:

Puig may be healthy but his timing is clearly off. Seemed late on most of his swings in game 4. I'm not sure he'll be able to get it back in this postseason or if he should even be given the opportunity to try. That is, after game 5 in which I'm sure Ethier will start against the right hander.

Exactly what I was saying before the series began. He'd been out since August and hadn't seen live pitching. Simulated games don't cut it when the prize is this big.
