more along the lines of why mess with a good thing in order to try and perfect it? when you got a good thing and want perfection then what you want is cake you cant have cake and also eat it too you just look at it and wonder how it might taste if only you could eat it but you cant eat that cake you cant even taste that cake cake in the abstract is great but in reality it is the enemy you already had something good but you wanted cake when you could have had pi all along but pi isnt perfect perfect is the enemy of a good thing and you dont fuck with a good thing crust is a fragile thing
I dont think he will ever live up to the superstar billing. But i dont think a solid Major League career with a couple more all star selections isnt out of the realm of thinking either. I hope im wrong. But i see him as a 270-280 15-20 hr 50-60 rbi guy with a slash line resembling 272/340/402.But i have a feeling he will be traded with in the next few years anyways.
Agree mostly. I don't know if he gets the AS selections though, considering the other OFs in the NL. I just don't see him topping those other guys. But it's possible. He still has the most powerful arm I've ever seen though. I've wondered, since it happened, how the Uribe trade effected him...he doesn't seem to have that comraderie with anyone else, although none of us really know what goes on in the clubhouse/dugout. It just seems that way. For a young guy who has been through what he has, a relationship with a guy like Uribe could be of utmost importance to him. Sometimes he looks so lost.
You may be right about the latter if he settles into those numbers and somewhat loses his superstar/commercial appeal. Selling those jerseys, commercials, being on the cover of video games...his commodity status goes a long way in terms of his value. But on the other hand Zaidi's a Cespedes guy, so if Puig's offensive game rounds out to be somewhat similar to Cespedes', at the very least he could have one backer down the line. Of course that's not to say that Zaidi is the man with the final say...he didn't save Cespedes from being traded out of OAK either, but at least Puig could have one exec banging the table for him to remain a Dodger. He's still bringing it defensively, so there's obviously value there. His power stroke looks more efficient with his rebuilt stance at the plate. It's helping him stay back and not cast his arms out over the plate nearly as much, but when you now combine his new open stance with everything else that they're trying to teach him about his approach and adjustments, Puig's just basically a noob out there this year. An uber-talented noob as a hitter. He's been broken allllllll the way down. With them fucking with so much of what he does, albeit for the good of his maturation as a hitter moving forward, it still makes me wanna give him a pass for this season. I'd feel fortunate to get a .340 OBP out of him going forward. Dodgers have a lot of options for the top of the lineup with Joc/Peraza potentially leading off, and Seager/Kendrick potentially in the 2-hole, that all they really need from Puig is to be that #6 hitter in the order that can bring some speed and pop. A little more OBP and much less slugging than a Cespedes is what you have there in your .272/.340/.402 line. I think he can slug a little better than .402 ( or I hope, that is). He's at .434 right now. I'll go with .270/.333/.435 and or sort of split the difference on the OPS. I agree, I think he'll round out at about 20HRs...would hope for more than 60RBI if he's in the middle of the order everyday. Hopefully he starts hitting a lot better in high leverage/clutch situations, but you could see the problems coming early this season when his ABs looked just as pathetic as they did when he hit the skids last season. Still looked clueless, late on 90MPH fastballs, etc. With a raw, unfinished player like Puig we gotta be looking for maturation and the signs just weren't good early on this year. Hopefully he gets hot and soon...this playoff race is gettin a little too real.
I love the metaphors and poetry, Rube. But how exactly did they mess with him? In trying to help him when he went into a balls to the wall slump and basic funk? I would say that an organization, with it's investment, is obligated to try something. If they don't at least try and help Joc, then I think that is a mistake, too...as another example. You could be right...but he was becoming the archetypical " flash in the pan" AB...in spite of his physical gifts. It's difficult to know...
I didn't. I responded to him. We know he's real, and not someone going under a new name, or additional one, for whatever reason. So, welcome back.
Puig's future relies on one thing, his ability to learn. He has to learn to adapt to what pitchers are doing in his AB's and then learn to use that to his advantage. As long as he just goes up there hacking he's going to continue to fall short of expectations. Once he shows the ability to go to the plate and think his way through the AB, pitch by pitch, he might be able to maximize his potential. All the talent in the world is pretty much wasted if you can't use your head too.
Lol just seen that my post said nit. Idk why the fuck that was there, probably cause of that draft save bs.
