He also didn’t have to use any of our real relievers
But isn't that exactly why he could have let the kid go one more inning and earn a ML win?
Might have done wonders for the the kid's ego, instead of yanking him with a 4 run lead ? Kid must have thought he was worse than he was, even though easily as effective as meatballer Wood and better than that useless tranny Hill.
Just because he is young does not mean he is a damn idiot...
I think it had all to do with the fact that when he made the decision, it was still fairly early in the game and somewhat close. Not to mention, the top of the Rangers lineup was due up for the third time and the last time through the order, they we smoking the ball off of him. Having only 2 pitches and not really locating the way he has done in the minors meant they probably needed to get him out of there.
I honestly think this whole experience has been really good for the kid. I have no idea what his personal makeup is, but apparently last year he was pissed that scouts still looked down on him after the season he had. So he got in the weight room and bulked up a bit which added a couple MPH's to his fastball. If he continues on that path this offseason after a rough pro debut, he may be able to work in that 93-95 range with more regularity(something he is supposedly doing in the minors). With that said, it is for that reason that I hope this experience teaches him to work hard on a third and hopefully even fourth pitch. That change is bad and needs some serious refinement, so he should start working on that more in MiLB games. The other thing he needs to do is work on a slider. Kershaw was the same way when he came up, FB/Big Slow Curve that were great and a shitty fucking change. He was good, but he wasn't great(not to mention his stuff was just plain better) and teams started laying off the curve. Once he threw that slider in there, it made it so teams could no longer sit on his FB and spit on the curve. With how good Ferguson's curve is, you would think that it would be easier for him to manipulate something between the FB and slow bender. Definitely not throwing in the towel on this kid, but he will need to show me something in the coming weeks for me to think of him as anything more than #5 starter or BP piece.
Score was 4-2 when he was pulled and honestly I think he was pulled not just cause it was close but so he could leave with a somewhat good taste in his mouth. Yeah he could’ve left with a W if he goes one more inning, but I think it runs the risk that he could’ve blown the game and left miserable. After his first appearance he looked like he wanted to retire from baseball.
Idk...with what Dave has thrown out there since the season has started, especially when we were wallowing in the dregs of baseball muck and mire, I still think he could have gone out there again, with a short choke chain on.
Part of it for me, I was really rooting for the kid ( as he looks a lot like a rough and tumble Irish kid I knew 100 years ago), when he yanked him I was surprised and disappointed...and in his stead, I witnessed the glorious countenance of another Logan Forsythe K...always a heartwarming experience.
I've seen Dave leave guys like Baez left in there when being bombed like London in the blitz.
Your points are well taken though, and very valid.
Maybe he heard the concession stands start selling Thrifty brand ice cream shakes and double double royales with cheese.
Finski really likes this rendition.
I'm flattered but also confused. The time it must take to do this (so well, I might add) makes me wonder - haven't you got something better to do with yourhands ... I mean, time?

Hamels is allowing 2 HR/9. Hard pass.
How’s Maeda look? I’m not watching and see he has 0 K’s through 3
First two innings they were attacking early, hence the 14 pitches thru 2. Got squeezed a bit in the 3rd, and shoulda gotten out of it about 7ish pitches before he did, but Barnes made a crappy throw. Overall, not bad though he could be a bit sharper.
Lol, Matty gonna get in trouble for that. Stupid fucking Posey
Matty out here snatching bodies.
He had no where to go.
Yup, that’s why it is a stupid fucking rule.
Haven’t been paying attention to that. Feel like he’s throwing a lot of breaking stuff.
Honestly that was a terrible send and also really really stupid by Kemp
