RT @truebluela: Source: Scott Van Slyke is getting called up to the Dodgers. Hitting .336/.411/.623 w/ 9 2B & 8 HR in 32 games with Alb.

This'll be interesting. I don't think he translates well, but I really, REALLY hope I'm wrong. Go SVS!!

Keith Law called SVS "a 4th OF on a good club", considering our offense, if he's a good 4th OF I'd take that starting in left 100 times out of 100.

According to the reporters, it won't only be for two weeks cause Rivera's injury will probably take longer than that. So he has a good amount of time to show if he belongs or not

How dare you say that. Baseball Reference knows the exact date and time each baseball player started puberty.

Let's hope we see a lot of him at 1st base, where we currently have a vacancy. Do ya think that the Blake for Santana trade was worth the $2M, Ned?

Hey, remember the other day, when I joked about all of the hamstring injuries the Dodgers have been suffering, even going so far as to include the word “hamstrung” in the post title? Uh, yeah, about that: Juan Riverahas now been placed on the disabled list with a – you guessed it – sore left hamstring. I have absolutely no idea how it is that so many Dodgers have been struggling with the same injury, but the upshot here is this: hooray, no more Juan Rivera!
Rivera’s injury means we’ll get our first look at Scott Van Slyke, someone I’ve heard a lot of folks clamoring for. Van Slyke was hitting .336/.411/.623 at Albuquerque, though unlike most ABQ products, his home/road splits are not grotesque. I’m excited to see what he can do, though I would advise caution, since he’ll be 26 in July and in his eighth professional season, not exactly the hallmarks of a young superstar. Still, he has the potential to add some right-handed power, an area the Dodgers are sorely lacking in. He’s reportedly en route to the park and the Dodgers are “hopeful” he will arrive for the game; it’s particularly important since Jerry Hairston is headed for an MRI on his own sore hamstring. I’ll also be interested to see how Van Slyke is used, since he’s been mainly a corner outfielder in the minors, with 65 of his 79 career games at first base coming last year. He may need to learn on the fly, however, because with Rivera gone, you can’t have James Loney starting every single day.
