Back on track bkitches... check out Tin Star. Season 2 is out and pretty fantastic
Have you seen these yet?
hmmm yeah i can't say i can see myself wearing those for a variety of reasons
the first being i hate death marketing of any kind but i'll show the kids thx
Just watched the American Masters doc piece on Ted Williams ... superb. Streaming on Netflix.
I've read a bunch on Ted already, but it's not arguable anymore - if he hadn't fought in WWII and Korea, nobody would have as many hits or homers as him. Nobody. Ever. And not a steroid in him, except for the mulish asshole part of him.
He might have the greatest natural talent to ever put on a baseball uniform. His eye sight alone, was just one of the rare and wonderful gifts that made him the Splendid Splinter. Guy was awe inspiring.
And crashed in his fighter plane, too.
You read about what an asshole he was all the time, but I've heard clips where he was flat out hilarious.
Love his answer when asked what he thought he would hit against today's pitching...brilliant, imo.
My dad thought that only Musial, Mays, and DiMaggio came near him for perfection at the plate. He gave the nod to Joe D and Mays overall for their play overall, being as they dominated as centerfielders. Still, he also thought that only Mantle allowed Mantle to not top all the rest. If he'd drank and screwed just 10% less, he'd have hit 750 homers and driven in 2400 runs. or something ridiculous like that. He hated the Yankees, but he loved Mickey.
So did I...the same hate/love thing...when I grew up, it was Mantle, Mays, and Snider in CF for the 3 NY teams.I would roll around and fight if you ragged on Duke too much, did so many times, too. Never could let that happen if I was around.
Would never admit it then, but I liked the head -duckin' country boy from Oklahoma. And the Say Hey kid, too.
But in my heart of hearts, especially as I got older, I knew the pecking order.
Long live the Duke of Flatbush !
His contemporary Joe D was a bigger ahole than T Ballgame. Recommend you read Joe DiMaggio, a bio written by Richard Ben Cramer.
Marilyn Monroe likes this
I know he was part of the reason (his ego + Stengel's strident coaching) that Mantle peeled off on a gapper in Yankee Stadium in the Series in 1951. Mantle tells that story himself ...
heard someone talking on the radio yesterday morning about a movie called Brigsby bear and i recommend it if you like quirky emotional comedy
watch a movie about stand up comedians that go to China to perform and it was really good "i need you to kill"
one of the guys is Tom Segura and he has a special as well that i thoroughly enjoyed
Don't know how I dug up these docs up, but ... on Amazon Prime, I found a series of docs on classic albums by bands like Steely Dan, Peter Gabriel, Nirvana, and Bob Marley, just to name a few. I would suggest you check out the ones you find on Amazon by searching this guy's name - Nick De Grunwald

The Steely Dan and Fleetwood Mac ones were very cool, as were a few others. Somehow, I'd never heard of this series previously.
moves to the front of the line
esp for late night viewing thx
i'll watch the Steely dan classic 100 times
the influence these two cynical junkie Jews had on my life can't be measured
at the center of music that just mattered
the stories the session musicians tell and the pedigree of the players my lord
just starting Rush 2112/Moving pictures tysm
Yep. Fagan looks like an director at a Catskills Summer resort ... not one of the greatest lyricists and composers in my lifetime. So cool.
I need to watch that Rush one now. There's so many cool ones on there, like Stevie Wonder, that I'll probably re-watch several a couple of times.
Also, the Sex Pistols one is okay, but it's sad to see them completely forget to talk about Sid Vicious.
Actually I suppose they didn't really forget; they just couldn't stand the guy, and he couldn't play bass worth a shit.
I dont know how I missed this show. on Netflix. funny as hell.
same here on steely dan
had royal scam on 8 track back in the late 70's
needless to say wore that thing out
and aja was a high school classic
also liked fagan's (obviously later) solo venture the nightfly
