it depends..is Joc also struggling defensively? because that's the direction were goin now. his 1st priority is to handle his business in the field and be our " true center fielder ". basically, there's just too much being made of what happens with Joc's offense right now..much of that has to do with Kemp's/Hanley's exit and the overall panic about offense. still, even while Kemp and Hanley were obviously still around last season, we all knew that Joc was our only true CF and how important it was to get him up with the big club. well, we still need him. and i mean even though he struggled to get knocks in September, he walked 9 times in limited action and had a .350+ OBP..i think Dee had like 4 walks and a .300 OBP for the entire 2nd half of the season. Joc's been selective at the plate for a while. he may eventually make for a good leadoff guy once he starts adjusting better during ABs. but next year i can see Joc in the 8-hole unless Ellis is starting.
agreed gets rid of the unhappy OFer and opens a roster spot for us hope carl doesn't say something like this, because i actually like a carl/svs platoon
It might also be worth noting that the worst offense in baseball was put together in the worst offensive stadium in baseball with one the smallest budgets in baseball. Remember, their (pAAdres) portion of Kemp's contract represents their largest ever expenditure on a player. And also, the guy from Oakland who helped blow up the team with the best record in baseball was instrumental in CREATING the team with the best record in baseball. Perspective, it's a bitch.
Sure and that might take us from 94 to 100 wins and winning the division with a larger lead. The issue was the playoffs and in 2014 wasn't the bull pen failure balls flying over the wall and not errors? We have had back to back successful regular seasons what needed to be solved to get over the post season hurdle seems to now have a different emphasis. That's fine and the future will be as defined by a new management team. However historical revision can be a curious effort when you weren't part of it as many of them weren't
let's pray this doesn't fall through otherwise it could get pretty uncomfortable/ugly... As was first reported by Dennis Lin and Kirk Kenney of the San Diego Union-Tribune last Thursday morning, the Padres and Dodgers agreed to a deal that would sent Matt Kemp, Tim Federowicz and cash to San Diego in exchange for Yasmani Grandal, Joe Wieland and Zach Eflin. Multiple reports noted that the deal was pending physical examinations of the players involved, with Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com noting that Kemp's physical (which is not a slam-dunk) would take place on Tuesday. Rosenthal reported tonight that the Padres are meeting to discuss the results of Kemp's physical tomorrow, meaning that a deal will be either announced or scuttled on Wednesday. Major-league sources indicate that two of the players rumored to be headed to the Dodgers in the deal have not been notified that they have been traded, meaning that the deal hinges on Kemp's physical and that we should know the results within the next 24 hours. In addition, the Dodgers' acquisition of Jimmy Rollins appears to hinge on Kemp's physical, as multiple reports have indicated that Eflin, one of the prospects headed to Los Angeles in the Kemp deal, will be traded to Philadelphia along with Tom Windle. If the deal for Kemp falls apart, the sides will likely work to replace Eflin (who would still be property of the Padres) with another player, meaning that the Rollins trade is not very threatened at this point. .
his ankle is gonna be the issue. micro-fracture surgery is no joke. they're on the hook for like 75M with Kemp, so it makes sense. i mean they'll be lucky if they get 3 good years out of Kemp, so i really don't know what they're getting out of this deal anyway..it's not like they're gonna win the division. maybe they sell more tickets, or maybe the new ownership just wants to make a splash. wonder if this controversy behind Kemp's physical would be a way to get LAD send over an even 40M..
If this deal falls through we completely lose leverage in future negotiations with other teams. Not only is his market value set in stone, he can't remain a Dodger after a botched attempt to dump him. This isn't good, let's hope they figure something out.
Padres have said he passed and are waiting on paper work. if there is any drama it could involve activity beyond what we already know or have connected together.
So, apparently we’re sweating the Matt Kemp physical now by Craig Calcaterra | NBC Hardball Talk -- Dec 17, 2014, 12:53 PM EST The Matt Kemp-to-the-Padres trade is not yet official. Why? The results of the physical have not yet been approved or rubberstamped or whatever one does with the results of physicals: The chatter on this started a bit ago when Will Carroll of Bleacher Report tweeted this: Others are saying that the Padres are optimistic that things are fine and want the deal to be done. If, however, it’s not done for some reason, it could create a mess. Not only undoing the Matt Kemp trade, but also impacting the Jimmy Rollins deal too. Why? Because multiple reports have indicated that Zach Eflin, one of the prospects headed to Los Angeles in the Kemp deal, will then be traded to Philadelphia in the package that completes the Rollins deal. So, we wait. .
Midnight EST tonight is the deadline for this to get done and I'm nervous that it won'r be done and that obviously hurts us because IF he was a clubhouse malcontent before? Then no Rollins most likely, my wife has arthritis in her hips and that's a hip replacement waiting to happen of course the caveat is he's much younger than her.
Well then they must be psychic. I mean if you look at the way he runs they may have thought it looks odd but he's been running like that ever since he came up. I'm not a doctor so I could be wrong but this came out of nowhere.
Hip arthritis doesn't manifest itself until you are much older and if you put yourself in Matt's place you wouldn't even in your wildest dreams would even consider that you have this so I wouldn't blame Matt if you're doing that very thing. Consensus is the deal will go through so it will be the Padres future problem. They are looking for insurance carriers as I write this post. I predict an additional 10- 20 million to sweeten the pot ought to do it.
The fact that it was leaked to the media gives the Dodgers a cause to file a grievance since the Madres might be seeking more cash.
