27 years. Some of us have lofty expectations. It's not as if we are talking the Clippers, or Angels. Everyone has a right to be and should be fussy.
My opinion on our record vs. teams >.500 - It's not really a huge deal overall. Conversely, if we were doing well against teams over .500 and struggling vs teams under .500 the protest would be "we aren't beating the teams we should beat." So the bright side is we are beating the teams we should beat, and that's a great roadmap to the postseason. If we get to the postseason we will have to beat those good teams, but historically there is little connection between how you perform against a team in June and that carrying over into October. That said, our record vs. the Giants is a big deal. If we are .500 against them, we are sitting 7.5 games in first right now... and that matters.
Look, clearly you want to beat good teams because that shows you can compete with them, but at the end of the day, baseball is much different than other sports. A bad day for one person, especially a starter, can really screw things up for the whole team. Hell, even if the guy who has a ton of people on base ahead of him, can be anyone on any given day, is just sucking ass, he can also change the game. As such, it is much more about being focused and making sure as much as possible that people don't have any "off" days. The playoffs are a new season and we must be ready to battle EVERY second and play smart.
Fuuuuuuuckk... 27 years... Sorry guys... my bad. When I read the 27 years it finally clicked... I got married in 1988... evidently my dogdamned marriage is jinxing the Dodgers?!? Fuuuuuuuck I knew there was bad mojo afoot... I didn't realize I was contributing ... bkitch best be minding her P's and Q's
it does matter baseball is different than other sports you play a lot more games against your rivals than other sports the season isn't even half over and the giants have pretty much faced everything we've got... every matchup, every situation, and dominated us like i said from the beginning, the only way it doesn't matter is statistically otherwise somebody try to show me/spin it how losing 5-of-7 to the cardinals and 9-of-12 to the giants is a good thing
Here's what pisses me off about the >.500/<.500 thing. The Giants can't beat the rest of this division. They can't beat the Rockies, Diamondbacks, or Padres. What's up with that shit? The Giants are 18-20 vs. the West...HALF of those fucking wins are against US! That means they are 9-17 vs. the other 3 teams. Teams that WE are 24-10 against. WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT???
The other confusing thing about it is: if you take away our games vs the Giants, they are a <.500 club. Take away our games vs the Braves and Diamondbacks, and they are both >.500 clubs. Take away our games vs the Padres, and they are =.500 clubs. If you take out our games vs opponents, and just judge the opposition based on how they've done vs everyone else, we are: 20-15 vs teams >=.500 (vs the rest of the league) 19-16 vs teams <.500 (vs the rest of the league)
