I get Baby boomers, Gen X and today which is Gen Z, or Generation L (lost). Radiohead: The Bends. This is based on an opinion that every instrument and every TALENTED musician has no boundaries when they know how to play their instrument. Every band's best music was always within their first five records if they were an aggressive and serious band. I seriously hate the term "mainstream". This thread should have good life. Irish, rename it to whatever you like. Music is life.
best record or the record you like best? i'll go with the 5 albums you'd take if stranded on an island... in no particular order... • frampton comes alive/peter frampton • white album/the beatles • vu/the velvet underground • rumours/fleetwood mac • a new world record/elo honorable mention... • ramones/the ramones • ziggy stardust/david bowie • strange days/the doors • never mind the bollocks/the sex pistols • the pretenders/the pretenders • thriller/michael jackson • hotel california/the eagles • fresh fruit for rotting vegetables/dead kennedys • drums and wires/xtc and that's just off the top of my head i'm sure there's more i've forgotten; stones, pink floyd, yes, etc...
Love me some 70's Floyd. They win, although I can't pick which is my favorite. Dark Side of the Moon Wish You Were Here Animals The Wall But yeah White Album for sure Deep Purple - In Rock Neil Young - Harvest Zepp - IV I know it's popular to shit on it nowadays, but Nevermind is the album of my generation IMO.
I enjoy me some Radiohead. The band is totally spoiled by obnoxious diehard Radiohead fans though haha.
forgot about richie blackmore/deep purple in rock is a great album... speed king and animals is a very underrated floyd album... "big man, pig man, how-how charade you are..."

I'm old sckool, so Deep Purple, Floyd, Zep, are all in the mix. Throw in some ELP (Welcome Back My Friends...) along with Joe Walsh, and of course the Beatles and the Stones, which I grew up on. I will also confess to having a weakness for southern rock (geez, whoddathunkit?) so a shit load of those bands get honorable mentions.
Love the classics. Zeppelin. Beatles. The Doors. The Stones. Pink Floyd (saw them live once and holy fuck it was amazing!) My top "5 albums if stranded on an island" would have to be: Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium Favorite song off album - Cicatriz ESP My Morning Jacket - Z Favorite song off album - Wordless Chorus Interpol- Turn on the Bright lights Favorite song off album - Untitled Radiohead - In Rainbows Favorite song off album - Weird Fishes Arpeggi Black Keys - Attack and Release Favorite song off album - So He Won't Break So many more albums and artist I like that it's unfair to have a "top 5" haha Can we just get like a 4TB hard drive filled with music instead of 5 albums on this hypothetical island haha
Great thread... Led Zeppelin - IV Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here Lynyrd Skynyrd - Pronounced Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John So many others deserve a mention ... just from these 5 let alone so many others
Loved Zep, but my favorite was Physical Graffiti, not IV. Same thing with Floyd, but favorite was Animals. Loved early Metallica, thought Master of Puppets was brilliant. Haven't liked anything in ages Aerosmith Rocks, close to a perfect album. Again, haven't liked anything in ages from them
Yeah Zep offered many choices and Physical Graffiti was pretty great too Same with Floyd, I love Animals and certainly Dark Side deserves plaudits but I'm sticking with Wish for 'my' desert island
I'm just gonna throw this one out there for old times sake. Jethro Tull - Aqualung. Doesn't make the top 5, but a great album.
@FerrariF2004 @CapnTreee i wasn't a huge zep fan but grew to appreciate them later aerosmith was one of my faves (can't believe i forgot them)
its a really interesting debate especially since they're are a lot of albums with two or three great songs but aren't really great albums just thought of someone else i went to see the cars in 1979 the cars were good musically but put on a boring show but there was this guy/band who opened up for them that no one knew joe jackson his first couple albums were pretty damn good...
