Maybe I'm wrong but I think the nerds will see it like me, he's under contract for big money so why try to re-sign him when there are younger, cheaper options? I think they let him walk and let some other team over pay for his declining years.

Greinke has earned his keep.. pay the man

And IF the nerds thought that there was a cheaper younger version who performed as goo or better... THEN we'd already have him.

Sometimes cheaper and younger are not better

or they'll become available this winter. Cueto is younger. Price is younger. Zimmermann is younger.

if Greinke wants to stay..don't opt out. it's that simple. you're making 24M on average for the life of the deal. it's not scraps and projecting forward for a guy who's already been pitching through some elbow stuff..he may not even be worth the 24M that he's owed on average going forward. our front office may actually be hoping that he opts out and that they can replace him with Price ( who Friedman knows) or Zimmermann ( who Kasten knows).

we moved on from Kemp, Hanley, Dee and others..step right up, Greinke. you can be next if ya like. on to the next one.

Good post. If he opts out he might be as good as gonezo, not going to give him a 6 year deal at age 32. not happening. opt in and everybody wins. If not like you say we go after a younger target.

Just saying that Greinke is a #1 SP on most rosters.

And there are not so many younger #1's for the browsing... and None Better than Greinke

so you resign Greinke. of course

yeah, if he opts out i think they move on. Friedman declined when asked about Greinke's situation in the winter meetings, but he was up front about wanting to re-sign Howie. that was a good enough indication that hey..there's nothin to talk with Greinke..the man is under contract.

i already did. i mean you can argue whether or not they're " better ", but Cueto, Zimmerman, and Price hit the market after this season.

oh look at you two agreeing
yes there will be younger/cheaper options... but not better ones
greinke is better than cueto, price and zimmermann... at least imo
if not for kersh, he would be the ace of the staff and we wouldn't even be debating giving him an extension
and yeah i'm a bit biased because i've always liked zack.......... [okay, some homo]

Try to think please. He can't opt out until the end of the year...when a new class of free agents will be available. So how could we all ready have someone who isn't available yet? Sooooo...let him walk and replace him with a YOUNGER pitcher who might come CHEAPER instead of extending Grienke into the years where he is more likely to be injured or decline in ability.

    Are you 'goo' with that?

could always trade him to the marlins with full salary paid for a pitch framer who can hit since the one we have is worthless

nah mon I ain't so goo w tat.

    "F" cheaper.

I want wins. I want to win it ALL. Greinke is still a bigger Cy Young winning stud than all the others shy of Kershaw... so far now he's a lock at the #2 slot

so yall can go on and Fuck GG's purse strings and pocketbook. Pay Greinke AND younger arms both but pay Greinke first

You don't lose your #2 horse over chump change.

Because its ALL chump change if a single fucking WS win is worth 'whatever' an aging stalwart like Greinke costs us.

    Win. Now.

I want the world and I want it now!!

i can't see Greinke getting more money than Cueto, Price, or Zimmermann. on an AAV?..possibly, but that's a toss up as well. Greinke's older and his new deal should be at least 1 year shorter in length.
