More on George potentially not landing with LAL and staying with OKC

Lakers Free Agent Rumors: Paul George might already be planning to re-sign with Thunder

First, there Chris Haynes of ESPN saying on the radio that “somebody recently close with Paul was telling me they wouldn’t be surprised if he re-signed” with the Thunder, and now Dean Blevins of News 9 in Oklahoma City worded a similar sentiment even more strongly, saying that he’s heard George is “already planning” to re-sign with the Thunder (h/t Daily Thunder):

“Allegedly, apparently, Paul George plans to stay with the Thunder. I know it’s not what people believe but, in separate conversations, I’m told PG’s agent has told people associated with the NBA that PG believes the injury loss of Andre Roberson was huge and he’s staying.”

However, Blevins also made it clear he wasn’t even sure he believed what he’d heard:

“Disclaimer, though: Believing everything that agents allegedly say can be dangerous to your health.”

So what does this mean? Basically that we still know nothing, but that it also isn’t just safe to assume that George is L.A. bound just because he grew up idolizing Kobe Bryant in Los Angeles, or due to the Thunder having a disappointing season.

Roberson isn’t the difference between the Thunder winning the title and what actually happened, but George wanting to run it back with OKC at full strength rather than join a developing Lakers team wouldn’t be the most shocking decision in the world if Roberson’s injury is factoring heavily into his thought process.

The reporter himself says he's skeptical. Only thing is, this is I believe the 3rd or 4th different report saying to beware George taking the extra 40M and staying in OKC, so he's not the only guy reporting such

Good news is it looks like Julius' top suitor could go another direction as well
Mavs supposedly targeting D.Jordan again and Cousins too, so it seems LAL may not have to match any ridiculous offer for Julius, given the lack of teams with max cap space
Re-sign Julius to 10-12M per, hopefully

Celtics 5 wins away from #18
20 year old Tatum producing big time going head to head with LeBron, gotta be doing wonders for his confidence, played in 29 games in one year at Duke and now 90+ with the Celtics in year one
    Ingram should be on notice

the only other guy I've seen say it was Royce Young, an ESPN Thunder beat guy and all he said is he wouldn't be surprised if he stayed. I'm still about 95% sure at the very least, George isn't going back to OKC

There was Chris Haynes' report recently.
Then there was a report/quote that came out with the player polls not too long ago that said George wouldn't be landing with LAL until the summer of 2019, hinting towards George passing on the opportunity to opt out this summer.
A lot of smoke, there's no way around it

NBA now nearly matches NFL in corporate sponsorship revenue

As the NFL continues to kick itself in the back end with controversy after controversy, the NBA is quickly making a name for itself as a realistic alternative for sports fans in the United States.

Whether it’s the NBA’s more progressive approach in today’s often volatile national landscape or a superior product, the Association’s popularity is increasing at an all-time clip.

Just ask corporate sponsors, who threw a combined $1.12 billion in the direction of the Association during the 2017-18 regular season.

“Corporate sponsors spent an estimated $1.12 billion on the NBA this season, fueled by the new sponsorship patches on team jerseys,” Daniel Roberts of Yahoo! reported. “That figure comes from IEG/ESP, a division of ad agency WPP that tracks sponsor spending and ROI on the major US sports leagues.”

According to the report, it’s an increase of 31 percent from the $861 million corporate sponsors threw in the direction of the NBA last season. It’s also second among the four major North American professional sports leagues, with the NFL coming in No. 1 at $1.25 billion.

One of the major reasons for this increase is the NBA’s decision to allow corporate advertising on team jerseys this season. That has helped create even more revenue.

It’s still rather astonishing. Back in 2013-14, corporate sponsors paid less than $680 million to the NBA and its 30 teams. Five years later, and that number is on the verge of doubling.
