so much for it being nothing
    • Eric Stephen of SB Nation’s True Blue L.A. reports that the Dodgers have placed starter Clayton Kershaw on the disabled list with back inflammation. Stephen adds that Kershaw felt something awry when he threw today from an increased distance and intensity. They can place Kershaw on the DL retroactive to March 23. Kershaw was already expected to miss his next start after making the Dodgers’ Opening Day start in Australia against the Diamondbacks. Hyun-Jin Ryu will start on Sunday in San Diego in the Padres’ home opener, and on Friday against the Giants in the Dodgers’ home opener.

    mas...

By Aaron Steen [March 29 at 6:43pm CST]

Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw has been placed on the disabled list, tweets Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times. Hyun-jin Ryu is now slated to start the club's home opener on Friday, Shaikin adds (via Twitter).

Kershaw has struggled with inflammation of a back muscle this spring, though he was able to start the team's first game of the season, which was held in Australia against the Diamondbacks. The move likely stems from an abundance of caution after the Dodgers inked the lefty to a seven-year, $215MM extension this winter. Commenting on the move, manager Don Mattingly offered that the club merely aims to protect Kershaw from himself, according to another Shaikin tweet.

However, the decision has to be cause for at least some concern. Kershaw indicated as recently as Wednesday that he planned to start the April 4 matchup with the Giants, but that duty now falls to Ryu.

DBB says he is saving Kershaw from himself?? Ever since DBB received that contract he's been too cautious!

He's only missing 1 start, I'm fine with them being cautious this early in the season.

It's early in the season, I'm fine with caution and Kershaw injury being put together.

Shoot me if you like but I am quite okay with this. In fact, not due to injury but something else, I would love it if Kershaw missed 2 other starts throughout the year. I want to walk into the playoffs with a very rested Kershaw who is not tired in the least.

What worries me is that in the playoffs Kershaw goes on short rest and gets bombed. Come Spring Training he is less than effective. Opening game and the old Clayton. A few days later he goes on the DL. Is the game in Austrailia the norm or are the other games after he went on short rest after throwing 200 or so innings last year? Did we sign damaged goods? Not saying but wondering.

2-3 weeks out. Reevaluated after that. Probably one rehab start in Rancho. I'd say May 1st is the target date. Fuck

Is there something in the water in LA that makes any player we sign to a big contract get injured? I mean, what the fuck!?

Better it be early than in August or September.
