Music is dead today in all genres maybe except for Country...
Here's another question for you guys... (or is it the same one?)
good stuff as always chumpy
this is always a tough (and as you mentioned) extremely subjective topic
If I say clapton, does that include cream? what about the yardbirds? same for lou reed/velvet underground, frampton/humble pie, etc.
so many variables
even tougher that you're asking us to omit personal faves
alright, here's my best effort [based on your criteria]...
Greatest rock and roll act of all-time:
elvis, hands down
so revolutionary that cbs would only show him from the waist up because his hip motions "provoked impure thoughts"
Who are your Top Five artists and why?
my top favorites would be a little different
but since you said to take that out of the equation...
- beatles/stones/kiss/led zep/queen, based solely on popularity, career success and what they meant to their generation
honorable mention: the who/the doors/metallica/cheap trick/pink floyd/beach boys/nirvana
What would it take for a band these days to crack your list if not supplant the Beatles (or your own personal favorite) as number one?
imo, this is not possible
too much has changed
the kennedy assassination/cover-up could not happen today, nor could the beatles
people are much more tuned in
and now for a couple of my own categories
and these [of course] are entirely subjective...
best irish band
worst irish band
most under-rated band/artist ever
tie: love/ultimate spinach/danzig
5 most over-rated bands/artists ever
nickelback/u2/limp bizkit/phish/spin doctors
i would list bieber, vanilla ice and milli vanilli but i consider them artists
oh shit, good catch cap
No worries mate...I was in agreement with you
If I was inclined to poke a stick in your eye I'd wait for something better than that...
Listened to Eric Clapton's words about Allmans playing of Hey Jude and then listened closely to the guitar track throughout the song...
... and came away vastly underwhelmed.
I've heard Duane Allman play other songs that were great but this wasn't much of a display of guitar virtuosity... IMO.
Twitter had a good one with #FakeRockAndRollTweets...
this thread should be shot an put out of its misery
such a great thread
but it was pretty much you, me and limey during it's heyday
took at hit when limey passed
although @CapnTreee jumped in to pick up the slack
just a shame most of the dodger posters won't venture out of the dodgers forum
although i have a feeling guys like @Bluezoo, @fsudog21, @TAFNAC (craig) and maybe @BlueMouse might be willing to contribute
There's a few other threads around here that I'd like to see get the firing squad (or thrown out of a helicopter like a good communist) before this one.
oh shit, forgot to include @Finski too
Yeah ... this is cool. I need to think on it. I'll weigh in asap. Got AP Exams mañana.
Not sure about the best Irish band, but this guy is my favorite Irish rocker.
Died way too young.
Rory with the blues......
always referred to him as the irish george thorogood... and i mean that as a huge compliment
This is actually really good...
Tidy little cover of one of a favorite Zevon songs. David Lindley is magic.
