Well, I guess we've gotta agree to disagree. Kraftwerk was certainly relevant in the electronic genre. I get that. And Soft Cell & the rest drafted off their synth-sound.

I know Bowie loved their sound but - side by side - I find them akin to apples & wildebeest. Bowie dared & dared - I never heard daring in KW.

Anyway ... Zevon's snub irks fuck out of me. I can't see past that. It's obviously my problem.

 

Oh yeah ... The Smiths ... total nonsense that they aren't in yet.

Anyway ... music ... like food .... non gustibus non est disputandem.

Thin Lizzy is unacceptable because you can't have a rock conversation without them in it. they were the epitome of a rock band. love the old footage esp w Moore playing greeny. can't get any more rock than that. would love to have seen them in the 70s live.

 

Moore was a killer.

buddy of mine had the live album one for the road and even though i like the band it was that double album that inspired me to want to see them live. i saw them twice and they remain one of my favorite bands i ever saw live. Ray was a showman but Dave was just a freaking rockstar w these booming solos. in another universe they would have outdone the Beatles and Stones.

 

The four year ban to tour in the USA really screwed The Kinks. They were never going to catch up to the Beatles or Stones anyway but that ban made it official. Afterwards, they kept that "English-only" vibe that made them so distinctive.

 

such a unique and amazing band. saw them probably 10 years ago or more a couple of times at the Agoura Country club. first time i was w a CR buddy that happened to be in LA. he was into smoking massive amounts of quality herb so i was especially bent for the show. i was laughing to tears and completely incredulous at the same time. not just the spectacle of seeing them live but how great the musicians were. Prairie Prince and the late Rick Anderson have to have been one of the greatest rhythm sections every. i would never have imagined it until i saw them play live. i mean just hypnotic and fucking heavy! it inspired me to live Tubes music for a month or so. you know, just program Spotify and let it ride. there's a lot of great songs and not just the Mondo Bondage stuff. really diverse and experimental w that madness and flair for the weird. as an eternal White Punk i will always love them.
oh and also seeing them live has or had a lot of freaks and trannies lurking about the stage. some were suddenly IN the band out of nowhere. it was like a circus sideshow and i got to be a part of it. what a trip!

 

Fee for sure but seeing them live made me realize how talented the entire band was. i think maybe that ego struggle caused them problems in at some point when they were at the height of their careers. think the she's a beauty era. when i saw them Spooner stepped out and sang this as well as Prince sang one. for all the fun they were seriously talented musicians.

this was one of my favorites i would find myself screaming to driving down the road. "do you catch my drift?' about the size of the crowds when i caught them live. probably was more like 20 years ago shit. very intimate and you really hear Prairie and Rick laying it down. all of them having fun doing the 80s skip dance lol. every show they played they gave it everything from what i've heard. for sure the shows i saw were high energy.
