So why is Frank so interested in signing Kemp now?

If Kemp became a free agent, the new Dodgers owner would have to overpay to keep him to make a good first impression with fans here. Why is Frank trying to make it easier on the new owner?

Does Frank already know who the new owner will be? Will the auction process be a charade, Frank's choice already calling the shots from the wings?

Our Dylan Hernandez reports the Dodgers have made the decision to reduce the payroll. Why?

What does Frank care? He's supposed to be gone by opening day.

Why not sign Prince Fielder if Frank is so interested in helping the Dodgers by securing Kemp?

McCourt is expected to represent the Dodgers at the meetings Wednesday and Thursday even though he had been asked unofficially to let General Manager Ned Colletti or another club official represent the Dodgers.

Reached at his office, Selig declined to discuss the situation. But MLB people familiar with the situation said some owners had advised the commissioner not to speak to McCourt, who filed for bankruptcy in June and has threatened legal action because MLB blocked his attempts to sell future television rights.

"Can you believe this guy is coming to the meeting?'' asked an executive. "Wouldn't you just think he'd take his money and go?''

Under McCourt, the Dodgers went from being one of baseball's best-run operations to the worst. The condition of Dodger Stadium deteriorated, with McCourt diverting funds from club use to personal use. While the team twice went to the National League Championship Series during his tenure, some blame him for the club's not reaching the World Series in 2008.

Baseball people say Colletti had worked out a 5-for-1 trade with Cleveland that would have landed left-hander CC Sabathia in early July. But McCourt would not agree to pick up the $5.5-million remaining on Sabathia's contract, so Colletti settled for Indians infielder Casey Blake later in the month.

Even in that deal, McCourt's tightfisted-ness was costly to the Dodgers. The Indians got catcher Carlos Santana, instead of a lesser prospect, because they paid the $2 million Blake was owed.

I wasn't sure everyone realized Frank still owned and was managing the operations of the team and is still functioning in that capacity. He is going to the owners meeting and calling the shots. From some posts I thought some thought otherwise.

It has been two weeks since Frank McCourt and Major League Baseball reached an agreement that calls for McCourt to sell the Dodgers. However, with the settlement agreement yet to be filed in court and McCourt and Fox fighting over the potential sale of the team's television rights, the creditors' committee in the Dodgers' bankruptcy case spoke up Tuesday.
The U.S. Bankruptcy Court must approve a plan to get the Dodgers out of bankruptcy, with the creditors having an influential voice in the approval process. In a court filing Tuesday, attorneys for the creditors' committee noted the Dodgers open next season on April 5.
"The committee certainly hopes by that date, less than five months from today, the Dodgers will have confirmed a plan of reorganization and be out of bankruptcy," the filing read.
The plan, essentially, is for McCourt to sell the Dodgers. However, the creditors have not seen the settlement agreement and do not wish to proceed on the assumption that it will succeed. Accordingly, they asked the court Tuesday to order the Dodgers to present a plan by Jan. 30, although the issue could become moot before then.
"If the settlement does not provide a mechanism for exiting bankruptcy prior to Opening Day as hoped, the ability to promptly pursue feasible alternative restructuring options must be maintained," the creditors' attorneys wrote in the filing.
In a filing Saturday, the Dodgers said they would file "certain terms" of the settlement agreement in court "in the near future."

Did Frank agree to sell the team or to put the team up for sale? Hard to tell because the agreement has not been made public.
