    MLB.tv BlueMouse updates:

ipad/iphone: the app no longer works on these devices. Instead of using your IP Address, the app now uses location services on these devices to determine location. Services like unblock-us cannot mask your location on these devices. I've read if you jailbreak your ipad/iphone there are apps available to fake your location, but I have not brought myself to jailbreak anything.

AppleTV: unblock-us works like a charm.

PS3: I set up my PS3 last night, and it was working but I kept getting a "Streaming error" message popping up about every minute. There was no actual streaming error because the game was playing just fine behind the popup, but regardless it made watching on the PS3 annoying. Has anyone else had this problem?

You didn't know that any liquor store worth a penny keeps all its inventory at a temp of 35.5424 degrees Fahrenheit so that you can drink it as soon as you get in the car.

You didn't know that all beer shouldn't be served at that temperature?

Unblock-us.com is a service that masks the location of your IP Address.

How it works: You sign up on their website (I believe your account gets connected to the IP address at the location you sign up, so if you want to use it at home use a computer/laptop that is connected to your home router - and I think your account will only work at your house if you do this). Once you are signed up, you simply change the DNS settings on the devices you want it to affect based on the instructions at unblock-us (like your AppleTV). Finally, log back into their website anytime and there will be a dropdown to set your country. Change your country at anytime.

    Cost: $5/mo

There's a 2-week free trial if you want to test it out. It works with Netflix if you want to test it on something before buying MLB.tv. Use your home laptop to setup the account, then change the DNS settings on your AppleTV. With unblock-us set to USA, open Netflix on AppleTV and search for "Spaceballs" or "Spongebob Squarepants" - neither should be available. Now set unblock-us to Ireland, close/re-open Netflix on AppleTv and do the same searches - those shows should now be available because Netflix thinks you're in Ireland.

You didn't know that only somebody who knows beer actually knows that beer knows what temperature it should be and knowingly chills or heats itself up?

Magic says Dodgers brand won’t be hurt by TV Deal
by Daniel Starkand | Dodgers Nation — 1 hour ago
    [IMG]
While the new Los Angeles Dodgers ownership group, led by president Stan Kasten, Earvin “Magic” Johnson and the Guggenheim Group has made it clear that they are committed to winning by spending a ton of money and hiring all of the best available front office people, there is still one problem facing the Dodgers’ ownership group.

While the Dodgers have won two straight National League West championships under their new ownership, leading the Major Leagues in attendance each year, fans can’t watch the games at home.

The Dodgers are in the second year of a massive 25-year, $8.35 billion contract with Time Warner Cable, but TWC is unable to reach agreements with other cable providers. Only 30 percent of Los Angeles area households have TWC as their provider, so that means that 70 percent of fans can’t watch the games on TV.

According to Bill Shaikin of the LA Times, Johnson believes that the TV issues has not affected the Dodgers’ brand:

“No, it’s not hurting us,” Johnson said. “But we want to be on TV. You know that.”

Negotiations between TWC and other providers have been stalled pending government reviews of a proposed merger between TWC and Comcast. Despite the stall, Johnson said that they are still working to get an agreement done:

“There are things going on,” Johnson said, offering no specifics. “There are meetings. There are people talking. There’s nothing we can tell you right now. But we are trying. We are working hard.”

Because TWC has exclusive TV rights in Los Angeles to Dodgers games, most nationally televised games are blacked out in Southern California, making going to the stadium the only way for people to see games. Because of that the Dodger Stadium attendance is already off to a record pace.

While the TV issue doesn’t seem like it will be resolved in the near future, it has not affected the team’s play on the field, as they just completed a three-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners.

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...ers-said-to-be-leaning-against-comcast-merger
Staff attorneys at the Justice Department’s antitrust division are nearing a recommendation to block Comcast Corp.’s bid to buy Time Warner Cable Inc., according to people familiar with the matter.

Attorneys who are investigating Comcast’s $45.2 billion proposal to create a nationwide cable giant are leaning against the merger out of concerns that consumers would be harmed and could submit their review as soon as next week, said the people.

The antitrust lawyers will present their findings to Renata Hesse, a deputy assistant attorney general for antitrust, who will decide, along with the division’s top officials, whether to file a federal lawsuit to block the deal, they said.

    http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory/verizon-slices-bundle-lets-customers-choose-30386779

Under pressure from an expanding number of cheaper online video services, the long-dominant bundle of channels offered by pay-TV companies is becoming a bit more flexible.

Verizon said Friday that it would let customers pick groups of channels that interest them, a plan that is separate from the traditional bundle that has been offered to customers for years.

The penchant for pick-and-choose online video is reshaping pay-TV. More and more people, fed up with large cable bundles with dozens of channels they don't watch and hate to pay for, are signing up for cheaper streaming services like Netflix. Amazon.com has also entered the game, as have HBO Now and Dish Network's Sling TV. Apple is reportedly working on its own version, too.

Verizon will give customers the option to buy a base package for about $55 with more than 35 channels — such as AMC, CNN and Food Network — plus two additional channel packs that have themes including sports, children and lifestyle. You can add more packs, which have about 10 to 17 channels on average, for $10 each, and swap out packs after 30 days. There's no contract required.

The above is offered as FYI and you can decide for yourself the impact of on the Dodger tv contract.

IMO, the TV situation is not affecting the current fanbase and technically, not hurting the Dodgers, BUT it is blocking the growth of the fanbase which IS hurting the Dodgers.

Yeah. Young kids who can't watch baseball is going to hurt the team.

We're old and won't stop following the team just because we can't watch them. We will find ways. It's not that hard if you have internet connection.

But there are kids who can't watch games and whose parents can spend money on tickets for too many games. They may end up just not caring for the game.

Agree, plus the overall tendency in today's instant gratification world is working against baseball. Kids seem to think the game is slow and boring, and don't see the beauty of a pitching duel or the drama in an extra inning affair.
