Like I said in the other thread, we might have been close to a serious dumping of Uribe. Callaspo is worse then Uribe, even if factoring in he can play another position, he can't hit. Withrow has some damn good upside but also: the injury makes it weird. The two other relievers don't have as high and upside but maybe one figures it out, maybe both do something semi cool. Stults has shit for upside but you at least know he can give u an average string of starts. It's not sexy but it's something. Kind of a wash of a trade. It looks bad cause of the upside the Dodgers give up and there's always the chance Withrow comes back good but there's also the chance the relievers the Dodgers got end up being useful. I'm not confident in that, and in fact I would say the best bet is that none of these players really do much for their respective teams. Maybe Juan does though
Callaspo can play more positions than Uribe and Withrow is coming off of a surgery and we have a lot of flame throwing relievers for him to be expendable. Wish we knew more about the guys we are getting in return.
Might not ever get it cause there's a chance that most of the players involved don't get much, if any, serious MLB playing time
In the deal itself..for both teams..maybe, maybe not. Time will tell, but at the very least..bad as he's been this year..to get something for Uribe and perhaps deal him to a place where he might stick rather than DFA him and have him wind up with the Giants works out for now. But the Dodgers literally have so much depth that it's OK for them to hand pick a prospect or two because they know that at the very least they'll have a guy like Joc who basically stepped into Kemp's spot..a guy like Olivera stepping into Uribe's spot eventually..it makes it OK to deal from the depth because there's enough upside alone in just opening avenues for better players to come up and help the team. The downside is.." OK, how do we move forward in the clubhouse? " Because obviously he was everybody's favorite guy. We'll see. DBB is supposed to be a " player's manager ", so lets see if he can earn his $$$ in this spot. But there's also this..a lot of competition going on right now and Uribe was a clear loser @ 3B..you have the LF battle, you have Seager looming over Rollins, you have Kendrick fighting for his spot on this team going forward after this year, you have Bolsinger and Frias making their case, etc. Point being, there's really no time to be sad..they better keep fighting or else end up like Uribe. Haha
The FO obviously has more info on all the players involved. This trade may look like a pointless wash, but if this FO feels we can be even .00001 percent better, they pull the trigger.
I said this elsewhere, but I do think a trade like this to a non-contending, non-division rival is a much sweeter send off then a DFA, ending the year on the DL, or ending his Dodgers career not selected for a playoff roster. Now, he gets to probably get a great ovation today, and end on a pretty good note. Not to mention lots of Dodger fans who will have no trouble rooting for him to do well in Atlanta. Just on a personal note, this way and the chance to show appreciation for him is SO much nicer then what might have been in Uribe's future for the Dodgers
Callaspo is meh, Stults DFA'd (thank God), Jaime to Extended Spring, Thomas is being stretched out as a starter. I don't understand the trade, but whatever. Meh is a good reaction.
Kind of weird if you ask me. He's a fan favorite and he's playing well when he does play. Why would he want to move his family to ATL when he's comfortable here? He'd be making the same money... And next year he likely won't be a starter anywhere good.
This trade essentially was doing a favor for Uribe. To get him playing time As a fan of him and team chemistry, it sucks As a fan who cares for the success of the team, it doesnt really matter to me (or them). Uribe's glove is worth more than anything the dodgers got back. But with the Dodgers he simply didnt have a place and so instead of the things Doyer listed, they traded him. Eh, its all good
Seriously this is the logical thing lol Dude sat for two years being cheeks and was almost and probably should have been cut several times in those two years Kudos to him though for working hard, being a great teammate through everything and then giving the Dodgers the two best seasons of his career What i assume hes thinking is that he rather get PT and cash out a bit more before retiring. With the dodgers he wouldnt have got ample opportunity (barring injuries) to play and thus in the offseason he would have to settle for a generously reduced contract This way, hes trying to ball out, maybe get a nice 2 year deal or so and go from there. Makes sense i guess Hes looking at this for the remainder of his career. Otherwise hell yea, gimme 6.5 M and let me chill in LA with my niggas haha das the goat job
Haha @back2back x 2 + 1 you're been a mark. It's okay to call a shit pointless trade a shit pointless trade. No need to tow the company line man, just embrace how uninspiring and shit the trade is and move on. Too defensive bro, they're our front office, not our friends. Like someone said earlier Ned would be crucified for this.
meh, who cares we've mitigated the logjam at 3b and will have essentially created two roster spots [when callaspo is eventually dfa'd] juan was not going to be a factor/contributor this year, and you have to assume the nerds saw something that made them feel okay about letting withrow go the deal itself might not be a win but if it ultimately enables us to replace uribe with olivera and add a starting pitcher...
True. Who really gives a flying fuck at the end of it all. I'm going to look at it as doing Juan a favor, because it makes little baseball sense to me. I mean we have pretty much just swapped third baseman rotting on the bench. I can live with that, but I don't really like it. Juan made me lol.
